Fantastic place to stay, and I hope to be back soon. James and Colin were great hosts, very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I wish I had more time to just be in the Lodge exploring all the wonderful stuff they have. Such a cool place owned by super cool people, highly recommended!!

Nora thank you so much for your sweet card, flowers, and Renne Faire cash - we hope to host more fairgoers in the future!
My partner and I were both thrilled to stay at the Solar Lodge. There are so many thoughtful touches - from providing lots of different drink options, to the cozy library, to everything you could need in the bathroom and kitchen. The hosts were also very friendly and responsive. It’s a great place to stay and unwind, and there are a lot of fun things to explore even just in the apartment :)

Thank you, Quill (especially for the rocksteady observation of house rules - thanks for always locking our doors!) We will gladly welcome you back again some day :)
Wow, what a fantastic stay! The apartment is like the home of your favourite, wonderfully eccentric uncle -- a spacious full of offbeat collectibles, books, comfy furniture, plants, plus all the necessary tech to make everything today and workable. The bed is nicely firm, James has clearly put a lot of thought into making the apartment as comfortable and convenient as possible, but with a lot of added flair! I will absolutely return!

Thanks, Lauryn! A real pleasure to host you - we look forward to hosting you again in the future
The place was something out of a book. Clean and welcoming, I couldn’t find a thing to complain about if I wanted to. The hosts made themselves well accessible if needed and made the stay feel very personable. Great location, amazing restaurants and parks in the immediate surrounding area. Though you would be able to stay a whole week and never leave the residence and still be finding things to entertain your stay! Being pet friendly for my dog and I was just the cherry on top of a dream worthy vacation.

Thank you, Kailey! We’d be happy to host you and Cash again in the future!
We had an AMAZING stay!! Great location, very clean, hosts communicated greatly, and overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a cozy stay in Chicago. The parking is street parking; however, there was always a spot for us! The hosts were very helpful and provided us with many great recommendations on what to do around town. We were very grateful and will definitely be back!!

So nice to host you two - we also really appreciate your nice comments in the guest book, and really appreciate how clean you left everything. Come back any time!
Great hosts with great communication (honestly they felt like nice neighbors) , great library, great media room, great yard, unmatched decoration game, and honestly great place in general! Me and my boyfriend utilized the media room and fire pit the most. The parking wasn’t bad and even with a car we used public transport more. I’m so jealous that this place is booked so much because I want to come back here as soon as I can!!

Janiah, you guys were swell guests and we’ll be happy to host you both in the future. Thanks for the nice write up!
I had a wonderful stay. The property was comfortable, spotlessly clean, and full of character—a truly unique space with an eclectic vibe and hundreds of books to explore. It felt welcoming and thoughtfully put together, not like a cookie-cutter rental. The hosts went above and beyond to make me feel at home. They left a bottle of wine, milk, snacks, and plenty of coffee and tea. There were even three different types of coffee makers to suit my preference. When I was running low on tea, the host kindly arranged to have more delivered. The bathroom was also exceptionally well stocked with all the little extras I might have forgotten to pack, including toothbrushes. The location was fantastic, too, just a short walk to the Brown Line and nearby buses, making it easy to get around.Overall, a charming, comfortable, and exceptionally thoughtful place to stay. I really appreciated the hosts' attention to detail and would happily stay here again.

Colleen, so nice to meet you and thank you for showing us a little more about our own city. Come back at any time :)
From start to finish I was very impressed with this listing and the host. There were so many things to look at I'm pretty sure we could've stayed in and never been bored. There were snacks when we arrived and the coffee bar was stocked with all sorts of different beverages. Someone has had to be a tech nerd because the lighting was off the chain! I would gladly stay here again if we are ever in the area again. Thanks so much!!

What a find! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Solar Lodge. A unique and fascinating property that was also welcoming and cozy, warm and inviting. The eclectic collection of books in the library is amazing. Our hosts offered several options for coffees, teas & snacks. Multiple outlets everywhere. Obvious attention to detail has been made by hosts Colin & James! I especially liked the heated toilet seat. We would definitely stay here again!

This was a wonderful space. The library and interior decor are so unique! Plenty to see and explore. The books are well curated and represent a fun variety of many subjects. There are new things to discover in every nook. The hosts were friendly and responsive, but left us undisturbed to enjoy our time and each other's company. The apartment is fully stocked with anything you might need. We will definitely be back!!

Thank you for your visit - it was a pleasure to meet you and host you two for your anniversary. We look forward to seeing you again in the future some time :)
Most of the reason I love short term rentals vs hotels is because the individuality of the spaces that are available. This place blew me away. A beautifully curated blend of vintage/antique decor, an endless supply of books, comfortable lounge spaces, and most of all a bed like a cloud. The neighborhood is quiet within walking distance to restaurants, brown line, and a pastry shop with the best macaroons I’ve ever had. Our host was very attentive and available for our questions. He was able to tell us how to connect to the Bluetooth speakers through out the flat which definitely enhanced our stay. The space is all around 10/10 in every category and I am looking forward to booking it for my next Chicago trip.

Thank you so much. It was an absolute pleasure to host you :)
Wow. Probably the coolest, most eclectic rental I’ve ever had the pleasure to stay at. Great communication with hosts at all times and really felt so comfortable at their home. The big comfy leather chairs and a library with great choices at hand. Street parking can be a challenge at night but outside of that, such a nice stay. Thank you!

Such a blessing to stay at James’ & Colin’s magical space so inspiring it’s hard to find words for. From the art in the entrance way up the staircase you are in for an adventure. The extensive library filled with awesome books to the precious record players & record collection, plants & artwork; one can truly find sanctuary especially in this day & age. I think it would be impossible to stay & not have your soul touched in some sort of way. Thank you to the hosts; two beautiful old souls for your kindness & guidance!

Thank you for your kind assessment and for taking care of our plants during your stay. It was a pleasure to get to know you and your mother!
I found the Solar Lodge for my family and I after searching through dozens of bland and sterile rentals. The cozy book room, plants and warm eclectic style sold me right away. We spent hours relaxing to records and thumbing through vintage book while it snowed outside. Our host was very attentive, answering questions and helping us navigate the transit lines for us to get around. So much thought and care was put into every detail of our stay and I can't thank our host enough. New Years we picked up some warm German food from a local delicatessen and were able to cook it in the kitchen, another feature I appreciate. There were also plenty of tea, coffee and snacks available in the dining room.Thank you for making our stay so comfortable. We hope to do a summer trip and stay here again.

Thanks for your kind assessment. Please feel free to return in the summer for the fountains, fire pit, outdoor vintage fireplace, and neighborhood festivals! We will look forward to seeing you again!
My stay at The Solar Lodge was truly a one of a kind experience, the best vacation rental I have ever had. Not only is the lodge filled with a well curated library, the décor also reflects the city and vibe, there was a new shiny thing to look at in every corner! James and Colin have left nothing unthought of when it comes to everything you might need for you stay. The coffee/tea bar was a delight. Check in/out was a breeze, and while I didn't need anything, I knew the hosts would not hesitate to help. The diverse neighborhood is a gem and so easy to hop on the bus or the brown line. The only thing wrong with the lodge is it's so homey and interesting in itself, it makes it hard to leave and go explore the city!
