A Mountain Retreat, peacefully nestled in the Tonto National Forest at the base of the Mogollon Rim
The space
An architectural masterpiece in walking distance of the Tonto Creek, backing US National Forest amidst towering Ponderosa Pines and a firewised forest.
The design of the 1896+/- sq. ft. home strives to minimize its carbon footprint using passive solar strategies and the use of sustainable materials.
The entrance has a beautiful covered deck boasting views of Saddleback Mountain. The main living area is inviting with natural light, tile floors and a wood burning stove and connects to the fully stocked open concept kitchen.
The entire lower level has wide hallways and doorways that are ADA compliant with wheelchair accessibility, leading into the large bathroom where you are greeted with a beautiful stone walk-in shower.
A functional guest bedroom featuring a queen bed and a pullout couch can be utilized as an office and has a private back door to a sunken grotto: perfect for enjoying the tranquil view of the Tonto National Forest and the peaceful sounds of nature. A metal spiral staircase leads from the grotto to the upper deck.
From the main living room there is a stunning open stairway leading up to the private primary suite featuring two queen beds. This primary suite is incredible: there is a reading nook with the floor-to-ceiling glass for you to relax in and enjoy the breathtaking views. A large ensuite bathroom features a soaking tub, walk-in shower, a kitchenette with mini-fridge, and is finished with travertine floors.
The suite has gorgeous hickory and pecan floors and a large walk-in closet. To complete this primary suite there is an expansive private deck that wraps around three quarters of the upstairs and is partially covered.
The beautifully landscaped lot sits on half an acre of land at the end of the road in Kohl's Ranch, has easy parking and an impressive retaining rock wall. This Modern Mountain Retreat is perfect for a getaway in the Tonto National Forest under the Pondarosa Pines.
We recommend 4 wheel drive DURING WINTER/SNOW season, as the approach to the University Dr is a steep hill. While the neighborhood does maintain it, it can get slippery during extreme weather.
The home was designed with sustainability as a key feature and won the University of Arizona School of Architecture Gurley Award for design excellence.
