About this property
Cozy Romantic Riverside Cabin, View Hot Tub, in the Cascade Mountains of WA
Whispering Waters has been described as "a band aid for the soul". It is a charming cozy chalet style cabin in the spectacularly beautiful Cascade Mountains of northwest Washington state. The cabin sits on the bank of scenic Skykomish River 60 miles/90 minutes northeast of Seattle, 23 miles west of Stevens Pass Ski Mountain.
The cabin is ideal if you're looking for a romantic getaway. The soaring cathedral ceiling creates a romantic ambiance, as well as a river view from the loft king bed, balcony, and seasonal river rock gas fireplace. The loft's french doors reveal a view of large moss-covered trees on a wooded lot next to the cabin, and the balcony is a scenic place for morning coffee as you listen to the river "whisper" by.
The 600 sq ft vacation rental cabin is perfect for two celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon, or a romantic getaway. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, available if you don’t want to climb stairs , bath with shower, outdoor hot tub. Base rate is for 2 people/one bed.
Whispering Waters cabin is in a small rural non-incorporated community in the Cascade Mountains. The closest restaurant is 9 miles away, and the closest grocery store is 13 miles away, though nearby Baring Store has snacks and basic grocery items. With the well equipped kitchen, most guests bring food to prepare simple meals.
If you like the outdoors, the cabin's nearby location to three wilderness areas and a national forest makes it an ideal base. Nearby hiking is fantastic with trails and roads ranging from easy family walks to challenging. There is something for everyone including many mountain lakes, historic lookout towers, alpine meadows, historic railroad sites, mountain ridge hikes and the Pacific Crest trail that crosses US Hwy 2 at Stevens Pass.
Other local activities are river rafting, kayaking, skiing, snow shoeing, rock climbing, fishing, and off-roading.
Whispering Waters cabin is also wonderful for a relaxing getaway. The rocking chairs on the cabin's front porch are guests' favorites for watching the river flow by and bird watching - hummingbirds in the garden, mergansers floating down the river, and the occasional eagle or Osprey soaring by. There are also lounge chairs for relaxing, sunbathing in the front yard or possibly star gazing.
To add to your relaxing getaway, and to ease sore muscles after a day on the trails or ski slopes, the hot tub is just steps out the front door. The hot tub has a view of the Cascade Mountains looming above scenic Skykomish River. The tub is covered with a translucent roof to maintain the outdoors ambiance but protects from the elements when needed.
A cabin stay isn't complete without an aromatic crackling fire next to the river bank. The fire bowl is year-round, weather permitting and there is no burn ban, common in the dry summer months. Firewood is not provided but can be purchased at most area grocers.
The cabin is in a semi-private location with two cabins across the river and a quiet full-time residence downstream, with fencing and landscaping to provide privacy. Empty wooded lots next to the cabin contribute to a woodsy ambiance. The deciduous trees on the river bank are trimmed to maintain a river view while providing summer privacy.
The king bed in the loft has a river and woods view. A queen bed in the downstairs bedroom provides room for an additional person, or if you don't want to climb the somewhat steep stairs. Please let me know if you prefer the downstairs bed instead of the loft so it will be made available. Bedding, extra pillows, and towels provided. Both beds have newer mattresses; a luxury medium firm king in the loft, downstairs a firm queen mattress with a foam topper. The topper can be removed if you prefer firmness. NOTE: To simplify COVID cleaning, the downstairs bedroom is available only when there are more than two people or with an additional cleaning fee.
A small kitchen is set up for simple meal prep, and the river view dining table seats up to 4. The kitchen area has a gas range/oven, refrigerator/freezer/ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker, French press, bean grinder, blender/food processor, and hand mixer. Starter supply of coffee, tea, & sugar provided. Dishes, pots/pans, kitchen towels, flatware & cooking utensils also provided. Some pantry items may be on hand.
Charcoal grill with charcoal chimney on the riverside porch (bring briquettes), with a river view.
This Washington vacation cabin is super cozy in winter with the river rock gas fireplace. For entertainment, there is Fubo, WiFi, Netflix, board games, puzzles, a few paperbacks, and Sky Valley area information book.
The area around Whispering Waters is not 'touristy' (i.e. not highly developed), yet attracts thousands of visitors due to the rugged beauty of Washington state's rural Cascade Mountains and the outdoor recreation provided by the mountains and rivers.
The cabin is on the south fork Skykomish River, mostly a class II whitewater rafting, kyaking, and the occasional SU paddle boarder. A good float is from Skykomish ball park 9 miles east/upstream to Baring. Be aware that there are 3 sets of non-navigable waterfalls three miles downstream, west of the cabin. Mid to late summer the river is gentle enough for you to bring river tubes. Though the water is still cold, it is very refreshing when the air temperature rises. The main Skykomish 6 miles west is a class IV whitewater river, with local rafting companies providing trips through popular Boulder Drop. Rafting season is usually May to early-mid July.
The south fork Skykomish with it's sparkling clear water is a Washington Scenic River with seasonal (June 1-Nov 30) fishing for trout and white fish. Even though it is a whitewater river, there is a fairly calm area in front of the cabin for cold water swimming on warmer summer days. The rapids just past the cabin are mild enough in late summer for family tubing. NOTE: there are three sets of waterfalls starting 3 miles downstream of the cabin. Kayakers and rafters start upstream in Skykomish, 8 miles east, or Money Creek for a four mile float. There is a small rocky beach below the cabin, and is a good place to enjoy the cool river breeze on the occasional hot day. Chairs can be placed in the river to cool off even more. Western Washington weather is usually mild throughout the summer but there will be some hot days. Even on hot days the night temps drop into the mid 50's to low 60's which cools the cabin with "natural air conditioning".
Stevens Pass ski area 23 miles east is a popular day-use ski/snowboard area. Whispering Waters cabin is on the west side of Stevens Pass, so you don't have to drive over a mountain pass if coming from the Puget Sound/Seattle area.
At 775 ft elevation, there is not a lot of snow in the winter, but a short drive up the mountain will usually get you to snow. The roads to the cabin are usually snow free in the winter; but one should be prepared for winter driving when coming to the mountains approx. late November to March. Check road conditions and weather report before coming to the cabin Nov-March in case traction devices are needed.
For a festive look, the cabin is decorated for the winter holidays with lights and garlands.
We pride ourselves on providing well maintained very clean rental cabin. We also provide more personal touches than non-local management companies.
We have many repeat customers, drawn back to the beauty of the area and the coziness of the cabins.
Arrival time 3pm or any time after; departure by 11am.
This cabin may is not suitable for small children due to the proximity of the river, an unfenced pond, and stairs both inside and out.
Be aware that the cabin is about two blocks from an active highway and train tracks. Trees and vegetation block much of the sound, and most outdoor activities are on the river side of the cabin with the sound of the river providing relaxing white sound.
There is a recording driveway camera.
