Welcome to our waterfront cottage, The Mermaid of Lorain, one of the Pelee Island’s Finest Homes, a two-story building on the very finest sand swim beach in a Cul-De-Sac! It has 3 bedrooms with Queen’s size beds in each room plus 1 pull out bed, which can accommodate up to 8 people. One bedroom (The Cleodora) is located on the main floor while the other 2 (The Nixie and The Ocarina)are located on the second floor. All the rooms and the living room have full lake views.
The flooring is made of carpet over wood, ceramic and laminate. It has a full kitchen with a stove, a microwave, oven, a refrigerator, dishes, glasses, utensils, and a dishwasher. We have a washer and a dryer for the clothes. It has 2 full baths, one on each floor. Bed linens, towels, and cleaning supplies are provided.
The finely decorated white wooden stair railings plus carpets on the stairs to the second floor are added safety features for the children and the elderly.
You'll also find an assortment of coffee makers, dining table, breakfast table and an outdoor gas BBQ grill. There is a large back deck for outdoor sitting. Fine decorated, bright and naturally lit interior features many artworks. The Mermaid of Lorain, Pelee Island’s Finest cottage is a relaxing and peaceful home. It has indoor entertainment with high speed satellite internet, satellite TV, VCR, CD/DVD player, a large collection of CDs and DVDs, a radio, books, and games for all age groups. There is a Playpen for younger children. Heating Base Boards, Fans, and Window Air Conditioners are available. There are plenty of beach chairs and a picnic table. Pelee Island's finest sand swim beach is at your front door. Lake Erie is quite shallow near our beach.

Fantastic location right on the beach. Spacious cottage and very comfortable for our group of 4 friends. Needs a deep clean. We removed many spider carcasses from the walls. Baseboard dusty and dirty. Cleaning expectations before leaving were unrealistic.

The house is large and suits the needs of a family group and you can't beat the location, right on the beach. Sadly we found this property was not up to our expectations. There were numerous spiderwebs and spiders both inside and out (and we couldn't find a fly swatter) The BBQ..once cleared of webs was all rusted out on the inside and bird poop adorned the window sill right next to it. We had to search for pillow cases (found the linen closet off the main floor bedroom) and make our own beds, then were then penalized for not taking the sheets back off of them before we left. I have been to Pelee three times in the past year and stayed at lower prices places that were cleaner, well stocked and had the beds make prior to guest arrival. I would not rent this property again.

Pelee Island is stunning and this beautiful spot right on the east shore did not disappoint! The cottage was clean and well appointed with more supplies than expected! Extremely comfortable beds! Lots of spiders inside and out but it won’t keep us away!

A beautiful location on a sandy beach

We chose this property because of its location on a swimming beach. The views and the water were perfect. The property manager, Madeline, was right next door and was very helpful. We enjoyed using the camp chairs to enjoy the deck and I also used the lounge chair when I was swimming. There were pool noodles and beach toys available too. The kitchen had everything we needed without feeling cluttered. The property had a very homey feeling and the furniture in the living room was very comfortable. My one suggestion would be to update and streamline the printed property instructions, especially for checkout. There were several partial copies there and the instructions included taking the trash to a facility that was closed on our check-in day -- even if the facility had been open, we already had a full car. Trimming the checkout list to the essentials would make for a friendlier departure. The best feature of the property is the location on the East side of the island. If you get up early enough you can have coffee with a view of the sunrise and maybe even catch a freighter or a sailboat on the horizon.

Inside of dwelling was neat and clean. Well supplied.

Outside is not up to standard for a rental unit. Building and deck need power washing Yard needs work as climbing vines are invading the yard.

ProsGreat location. Lots of room beautiful views super quite spot..ConsInternet was terrible. Bugs and spiders everywhere. Not sure when the last renters were present but the spiders definitely own the place. Not sure about the water charge of 10??be prepared to clean and remove everything including the garbage when you leave.. apparently no cleaning service the past rental is the cleaning service..

Amazing location right on a large sandy beach. Very quiet. Nice cottage but it is a cottage. Internet and satellite TV were flaky but so what: relax without a phone and enjoy some nature time! Manager Madeline very pleasant and accommodating. Check-out cleaning process should be posted before making reservation. Make sure to book ferry to the island in advance. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Pelee Island - Mermaid on Lorain

Another great Trip to Pelee Island at Mermaid on Lorain. This is our third stay and it was amazing. The place was spotless when we arrived for check in. The location on the Island is amazing with some of the best sandy beach front on the Island. The house is very nice and had a lot of the essentials. We look forward to going back next year!

Lovely property on the beach!

We were very pleased with the property! A few minor things that did not detract from our overall impression - barbeque had not been cleaned and propane tank felt that it was nearing empty but property manager remedied that by quickly delivering a new full tank and brush to clean barbeque. Pump on water cooler not working properly. Also fire pit had not been cleaned out by previous guests, but it was either to windy or too hot/humid to have a bonfire anyway! Everything you could imagine was there for use, except we did not find a fly swatter, which would have come in handy due to some pesky biting flies. We would highly recommend the property. And it was nice to have the property manager, Madeleine and her husband nearby; they were very kind and accommodating.

Great Site but Some Surprises

The site is beautiful and the cottage is well outfitted. The host and property manager were helpful. However, we were surprised to be expected to clean the cottage thoroughly, to wash, dry and put away linens and towels and to take garbage to the waste station OR pay an additional (although reasonable) cleaning fee. That was not clear when we booked. We also had to pay for water even though the tap water was not tested.

Location on the water was excellent, with beautiful sunrise, but read on: We lost use of the cottage for 11 hours in the middle of our two day stay, so no wifi, not able to cook, no water so could not wash,.....had to haul water from the lake to flush toilets. When I requested some compensation for loss of use and enjoyment - the owner said to call Hydro. How absurd. I also urge everyone to read the 'Rules & Helpful Tips to Make Your Vacation Enjoyable' especially the last bullet point (24 items) as it directs to make it ready for the next customer, including washing sheets and making up beds, mop floors, scrub sinks, clean toilets etc. With no power until 10:00, spend all Sunday morning cleaning and washing.

Our family first visited Pelee Island in April 2012 and we all instantly fell in love with it. It has become a perfect get away for our family, especially our 10 years old daughter. Six months after our first trip to Pelee Island, we decided to share our memories with nature lovers by welcoming them to this beautiful upscale cottage and help them to enjoy the peace, tranquility, and magic of Pelee Island.

Built in 2006, this unique property is in an excellent location, which contains large area of fine sand swim beach in Pelee Island. It is a waterfront property with lake view from all the rooms.

What makes this property unique

All the amenities of a modern house with very fine sand swim beach that is only few feet away from the very shallow lake for several feet that is ideal for swimming of the rookies, the frail elderly and younger children with adult supervision.
