We rented Rivers Edge for a company gathering and it was great! Our host was very welcoming and very responsive to any questions and everyone loved hanging out downstairs in the game room. The beds were super comfortable and the shower was amazing.

We absolutely loved our stay at River's Edge Retreat! The house was perfect, spacious, sparkling clean, beautifully decorated, and the river view was just incredible. Having that peaceful river access was a huge plus. We spent so much time down there relaxing. It was the perfect getaway and we can't wait to come back.

Bachelor Party trip

This place is fantastic for a bachelor party that prefers a quieter laid back weekend. Between the billiards table, dartboard, tv’s, large yard for cornhole, river for fishing, etc… highly recommend and will probably visit again. 5/5

Family vacation 2024

Owner was very accommodating. Property and house was very well kept. Owner allowed us to use the boat lift for my boat for the week. Family had a great time. Thank you again for using the boat lift for my boat!

Wonderful location; wonderful property

Our knitting group spent its 5th Annual Knitting Retreat here. We so enjoyed the kayaks...as well as the convenient location near the Tangier Island ferry/cruise. We encountered 2 issues which were quickly addressed by Linda/Rob. We commend this home to anyone looking for a place to unwind in Northern Neck!

Stay was awesome and pleasant

The home was very clean and well equipped with all the necessary furniture, indoor games, etc. We like the stay very much, very pleasant lake view and had all the material to do Kayaking, so we did not had to bring much. Kids had lot of fun too! Recommend it to everyone who would want to have rejuvenating vacation. Look for weather conditions before planning.

Nice stay with some inconveniences

We enjoyed the house and location. The view of the water is nice and the common area upstairs was comfortable. We found the overall condition to be okay but could use some updating and stocking to better accommodate 12 people. We did not think it was very clean when we arrived.

This is the place to go to if you want to have a nice family gathering. The place was clean and it was nice to take the kayaks out on the river. My kiddo loved having his own getaway place in the basement, and it was nice with the upstairs being a family gathering area. A lot of wonderful things are (between 10-30 minutes away). The only knock would be the dogs barking at night, but it was beautiful outside at night with being able to see the stars. Also the Pizza oven outside needs a little TLC. I will definitely be trying to make another stay here potentially next year!

Great home for a family vacation

We stayed 5 nights and really enjoyed this home for our family. We have 4 grandchildren between the ages of 2-9 and adult children and their spouses and it was a great home for a family. The basement is perfect for many ages to enjoy. We wanted to enjoy the river water more, but there were many jelly fish while we were there. However, we did enjoy kayaking one day. The owner was very responsive to our questions and the house was clean and had great spaces indoors and outdoors. We appreciated the kayaks, lifejackets and other outdoor games.

Perfect getaway house from hecticness

Our family of 11 stayed at Rivers Edge for a family vacation all together in one place. We really enjoyed our time there! Having a dock on the river was fun for our nature lovers. We could use the backyard to play cornhole together. The location was nice for checking out areas around the Chesapeake Bay and taking a ferry to Tangier Island for a day excursion. We had plenty of space and having 3.5 bathrooms made it nice with so many of us. Some of us had very little cell service but the wifi helped us not feel completely remote. We appreciated that it was dog friendly, as well! Overall we had a great time and it was perfect for our needs!

Big cozy house with a view

We had a great time at Rivers Edge! The home is large and cozy, and the beds were very comfortable. The yard is so nice with the large deck and a good amount of shade trees. We enjoyed the crabbing and having quick access to the water. The rec room was also a hit with the pool table, darts and nice sized tv for gaming. Our vacation crew enjoyed ice cream in “downtown” Reedville and shopping and food in Kilmarnock - both an easy drive. Also some good thrift shops nearby. The host was kind and responsive. Thanks for the great trip! :)

Plenty of room for our family. Ample bedding and bathrooms. Great deck & patio. Plenty of seating space . Impressed with bathroom, kitchen and other stock of supplies. Small Master bedroom TV. Lack of refrigerator/freezer space for our group of 13. Disappointed that the hot tub was not in working condition. We were not aware it was not going to be available. All in all had a great stay!

Regarding the hot tub - we had sent an email out to you that it was recently installed and it was available for anyone booking after May 26th. Since your booking was way back in January and at that time the hot tub was not part of your booking. New bookings will have the maintenance fee included in their bookings to cover the maintenance fee for the hot tub. We have also mentioned in our listing that the hot tub is available only for recent bookings."

Great house with lots to do!

We stayed 4 nights for a Spring Break with our family. The house was huge for the 5 of us. The kids had endless fun with the pool table, foosball table, darts, gaming, and movies. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook. There is definitely an ant issue in the kitchen even before we brought groceries in but we just kept everything sealed. The view is beautiful! Lots of books/magazines to read. No fires allowed in fireplaces unfortunately. Towels and linens provided were appreciated. Toilet paper is single ply so may want to bring two ply. Overall great house, lots of space, and lots of fun things to do in the house!

Nice spot for quick getaway

Overall, it was a great place to stay. It had plenty of room for an extended family weekend trip. The crab pots and docks made water fun easy. The amount of kayaks and life vests were awesome. We didn’t use the inner tubes, bikes or helmets, but it was nice to see those were an option. The kids loved trying to catch crabs. The basement amenities and large backyard were also fun. The kitchen has everything you need to cook with/utensils wise. The option to bring a dog was super helpful and much appreciated. Something that can’t be helped but should be noted is the almost constant barking from the dog kennel across the water. You can’t see it, but it starts to get old if you are hanging out outside. You can’t hear it inside though, so that’s a plus.

We just lucked out

The overall impression of the home is it is beautiful. The first impression when you walk through the front door is WOW! This place is beautiful! The main area in the basement needs to be renovated, but you can tell the home owners are working really hard to update the home. I'm sure that's just the only room that is left. However, we ran into a multitude of issues which I will not leave on this review because it is embarrassing for the home owner. I'm sure at this point the issues we ran into are resolved anyway. My best advice is that, if you get there and find issues, let the home owner know immediately instead of waiting until the end of your stay. The home owner will do her best to resolve those issues asap.

This guest reported a very unusual issue when she checked in but refused to allow us access to check out alleged issue and remediate. Then, at the end of stay, delivered a laundry list of "problems" (no notice). They left my house dirty, furniture in disarray, food and dirty dishes in kitchen. Upon departure, immediate inspection reveals no evidence of their complaints. Now here's the a-ha moment -- after checkout they send me an email demanding money.... Guests who have since stayed have loved the house with nothing but good feedback.

Disappointed

The house is worn and needs work. There is a serious ant/bug infestation that was evident immediately upon our arrival. There is a sign posted in the kitchen that warns against leaving any food on countertops. The deck is grayed, rickety and splintered and has loose hails/screws. A vine has overgrown the stairs leading down from the deck, making walking them more difficult than they need to be. The linens are old and pilled, there are few hand towels, no wash cloths. Many of the window blinds are broken, the basement game room chairs don’t work. There is no longer a dining table in the kitchen; that was missed. The kitchen itself was well stocked, the crab traps were great fun. I’m trying to find positives. It is peaceful. It’s sad really, the house has so much more potential but seriously needs attention. An exterminator at a minimum.

The presence of a few bugs and the condition of the deck were due to the recent flooding from heavy rains. We've already hired a contractor, and the deck will be refinished in October after the busy season. Please note that our rural location means bugs can be common after it rains so we encourage keeping doors and windows closed. We always provide fresh linens and plenty of washcloths, but if more are needed, we would have been happy to assist if you'd contacted us. We are aware that one set of blinds was damaged recently – while they still work, they now just need manual adjustment. While we regret our home was not up to your expectations, we’re happy to share that our most recent guests reported no issues. We truly go above and beyond for our guests and are confident that future guests will have a wonderful stay!”
