About this property
Heritage country cabin
A beautiful little house that was once a fruit shop, in a delightful goldfields town. From 1877 to 2019, Shopkeeper's is now another world, a beautiful place of the handmade, the local character, and lots of preloved bits and pieces. It's a place to love, a place to write, a creative and reflective space, tucked away here in Maldon.
The Shopkeeper's House has been carefully rebuilt and decorated to share. There are special textiles - handmade and antique, a quality sound system (with a turntable + vinyl!), focussing on the locally-made and hand-made. All sorts of interesting books and mags, eclectic music, and lots of games. Oh, and lush beds.
Most things have had a previous life, because they have the most character - just like Shopkeeper's. We prefer reusing and recycling, and anyway, pre-loved is just better.
Super-cosy in winter with both wood-fired and gas heating and the split-system keeps things cool in summer. Shopkeeper's is the perfect space for 2 people and lovely for 4. Lots of games, a large garden that's always changing, and walking and cycling trails just around the corner. This is the place to come to balance out your busy life; to be in the country; where time slows just enough to really get away.

Why they chose this property
Why this home? Because it's such a distinctive feature of the town, one that everyone knows and loves. We love that it has a former life as a shop with its distinctive shop window. It's comfy and modern in all the right place, and has lots of vintage and antique bits and pieces that reflect our interests. It has lots to keep you occupied here - but it's also so close to town, and right at the start of the Maldon-Castlemaine trail if you're feeling active. And we love that it's right by the station, with the choof of the steam as it comes and goes, and that horn tooting in the distance - we're sure you will too!
What makes this property unique
The Shopkeeper's Quarters you see is the outcome of extensive restoration and rebuilding. The funny little old cottage that was about to collapse has become a lovely place to be, with heaps of care and attention to detail that has made it the special experience it is. It's where the best of old Maldon, meets modern needs... A quirky old cottage with a wet room and modernised kitchen; a turntable to spin a disc of jazz or bluegrass; those beautiful linens and antique quilts and fabrics. And of course the location, with walking trails into the reserve, or into town, right at your doorstep.
