About this property

Stone Edge - South Cottage

STONE EDGE is a beautiful & tranquil property set in a lovely garden located in a prime position close to the Botanical Gardens, "The Mill" & Castlemaine Town.
The property consists of a main cottage & two beautiful sandstone cottages "North" & "South". These two can be let out separately or together. Both cottages have super comfy king size beds & each is unique in character.

The North Cottage features a luxurious spa bath in the bathroom and a gorgeous sandstone fireplace in the living room. Perfect for those cooler months. A fully equipped kitchen and gas stove makes this cottage ideal for longer stays or a foodies weekend. A large private courtyard flows from the bedroom.

The South Cottage features a beautiful sandstone fireplace in the bedroom. Enjoy sitting by the fire or snuggling into bed. Relax in a huge roman style shower in the bathroom. The cosy living space has a kitchenette & outdoor courtyard to enjoy.

From STONE EDGE a 20 min stroll through the renowned Botanical Gardens takes you to "The Mill Castlemaine". Wander the eclectic Vintage Bazaar, check out Platform No.5 for recycled furniture & goods, and enjoy a meal at the cafe & coffee roastery. Visit the Brewery & Taproom for an ale or cider or Boomtown Co-operative winery, or simply enjoy a gelato at "Icecream Social". Visit "The Bridge" or "The Railway" for a good local pub meal.

From STONE EDGE drive into the centre of Castlemaine.... 3 minutes away.... to explore more cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops, galleries & the Restorers Barn. Alternately walk via the botanical gardens which takes around 35 minutes. There is also a fantastic information centre in town. Here you will learn about the rich history of Castlemaine & the Goldfields region & get local knowledge on the best places & towns to explore during your stay.

Stone Edge Style, Abundant Ambience
We had such a wonderful anniversary in the South Cottage. Every detail was delightful and the impeccable but cheerful lodgings are exceedingly comfortable. We won't spoil the treats from the hosts, but evidently all seasons and tastes are well catered for. The stylish living area/couch is comfortably stacked with cosy cushions to relax, and the adjoining kitchen/meals is well equipped with all the utensils and condiments you need, plus some wonderful fresh produce surprises to make your breakfast sing. The bathroom is beautifully renovated and every amenity is thoughtfully considered. Stepping up to the oversized ambient bedroom, we loved the music touch on arrival. The bed is super luxurious with more puffy cushions to devour in your sleep. Our host, Jackie, is incredibly inviting and helpful but unobtrusive, with ideas for restaurants and adventures in Castlemaine. We took the slow pace as it was hot and walked into the Botanical Gardens. We dined at Wild and shopped at an amazing IGA for lunch produce to add to our fresh bread. Sitting on the front deck at dusk was a highlight for us, drinking in the peaceful beauty and native surrounds. There are also private outdoor/shaded pockets to sit but we relished the sun splashed deck. We enjoyed The Mill, walking around the closed old Castlemaine Gaol (still lots of statues to see for free) and the lovely history of the buildings. So much to see! We strongly recommend this to others. You can even park close to your cottage.

Beautiful building and interior
The property itself is lovely stone cottage (does what it says on the box). Gardens are lovely. Generous provisions for tea coffee breakfast appreciated. Lovely setting close to bush very quiet. And a massive open fire suitable for whiskey, port or just gazing wistfully. A credit to the builders/owners care and attention to detail
