I stayed for 2 weeks and had a fantastic time. The fenced backyard was great for my dog. There were outdoor spaces to enjoy in the back and front, the bed was very comfortable, the place was spacious and well decorated. I really enjoyed sitting in the hot tub and watching the night roll in and the starry sky appear. I would definitely stay again.

Up front (but please keep reading after this), this unit does NOT have AC. Reading that a unit has AC would lead any person to believe the AC is central. This rental has one portable AC for one bedroom. Our stay was incredibly warm- we had to use make-shift beds on the floor of the main bedroom so our kids could fall asleep. This is especially important for anyone who needs AC due to asthma issues (like our son). Had we known the AC wasn’t central, we wouldn’t have booked this property. We didn’t end up spending much time in the rental since it was so warm in the afternoon/evening. If you are planning to visit Durango during any time other than summer, then this rental is great. It has the most well-appointed kitchen and even toiletries in the shower. The yard is relaxing (some commenters noted that the yard was “full of weeds”, which is an unfair critique. Anyone from the southwest knows that this yard is perfectly normal).The hot tub was clean and the yard being fenced was nice for our pup. The house is charming and spacious, and the hosts were always responsive to our emails- they even allowed us to use the washer in another unit, which was incredibly gracious. We would not hesitate to stay here again if we are traveling during a colder month.

This property is in a convenient location just outside of Durango city limits. Close to town and easy drive to Purgatory. There is river access with a beach area less than a mile from the house. Nice Mountain View’s from the back patio to enjoy morning coffee. We appreciated the hot tub after exploring all day. I rated this house 4 stars instead of 5 because it only has 2 portable room air conditioners and 1 was broken during our entire stay. Temperatures were around 90 degrees so is was uncomfortable in the afternoons, although it cooled down by bedtime. The owners did offer to move us to the basement level, but we were too tired from driving all day. We were happy to have a yard for our dog, but it was mostly wood chips and weeds. Some things in the home are in need of repair: latch on gate, doors not closing properly, holes in window screens. Overall, it was a good home base for our vacation. With a little attention to the property it could easily be 5 stars.

Understand that in spite of the listing describing the property as an "entire house" it is really a house divided into 4 separate units. So privacy and quiet is significantly compromised and parking is an issue. On our first night, we were trapped in the driveway and had to knock doors in order to get out. Beyond inconvenience, this is a serious risk issue In the case of a fire or medical emergency. In terms of maintenance, the back yard is mulched and weed control needs attention. But it is nicely designed on the inside and very close and convenient to Durango.
