So glad you had a wonderful stay and great time at the cottage and in Maine! Safe travels!
Have stayed here twice before doing another six week stay again. Feels like a second home. Excellent communication with owner, who helped us deal with some minor issues. Kayaking on the pond almost everyday. Love the new larger King size bed in the primary bathroom. Wonderful to have everything on one floor, very accessible.
This is a well maintained property situated along a pond where you can sit peacefully by or kayak in. All the amenities that are listed in the description are accurate. The owners are very helpful and informative leading up to and during the stay. I would highly recommend staying here!
Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 young children) had a fabulous stay at Bella Cottage! Cozy, very well stocked, and just all around fantastic. Highly recommend!

Thank you, Sandy! So glad you and your family had a wonderful stay!
Cottage was exactly as described! Bed was comfortable and lake was wonderful. House was well equipped and clean!
Only recommendation I would have is to have a couple lounge chairs to enjoy by the lake!
Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The location is just what we wanted. The cottage was so well stocked that we really just needed clothes and food for ourselves. The hosts couldn't have made things easier for us. They also communicated extremely well. Definitely would recommend a stay. We'll try and be back!
Great views and fishing. A little too much personal belongings in sight.

Bill, glad you enjoyed your stay. We try to minimize personal items and ensure there is plenty of room for your clothing and items. We do indicate in the listing that there are some personal items as we use the cottage as well.
Property was very clean, as shown in pictures. Very close to Ft. Knox and downtown Bucksport. 1 hour drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Great location on Handcock Pond. Would definitely recommend. Owner and local agent are very responsive and great to work with.
This is a lovely cottage, immaculately clean in a great location. There are loons on the pond and we saw eagles and osprey fishing there too. Communication with the owners and the property manager was easy and the house is very well supplied. If we come back to this area we would definitely rent this home again.
We truly enjoyed Bella Cottage. It was a great central location for all we wanted to do. It was very clean and well stocked with the neccesary essentials. Very comfortable and easy to figure out how to work all appliances and heating system. The view of Hancock Pond was magnificent from the cottage and had a nice deck from which to enjoy as well! We recommend Bella Cottage completely!
What a beautiful place. The pictures don’t do it justice. We had such a great time. The owner has a detailed folder with things to do, places to eat etc. The place was stocked with everything you need. Very relaxing and peaceful view. I would definitely stay here again .

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed Maine and the cottage.
Absolutely wonderful to spend a relaxing week on Hancock pond at Bella Cottage. Plenty of space for our family of four (kids 12 and 8). We enjoyed the kayaks, swimming, fire pit, and the comfortable recliners for movie time. Close to lots of great ice cream spots, the Observation Bridge, and Fort Knox. The kitchen was very well stocked for all the cooking we did and we also really enjoyed eating at McLeod’s and Crosby’s. Highly recommend a stop at the Unique Rock Shop!
We spent a peaceful and relaxing 10 days here. Close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbor to visit, but far enough away to get away from the crowds. Bucksport is a neat little town as well. The house was super clean, and everything was well stocked and just like the pictures. If you’re into fishing the lake is some great bass fishing as well. The owners are very responsive and helpful. This one is on our “repeat” list to return! Can’t recommend this one enough!
We rented five different homes, in five different areas through VRBO during our summer stay in Maine. This one was our favorite. Sad to leave! Had everything you could want, one level easy living, clean and modern. Cable TV and WIFI worked great.
Love our 3 week stay so much, we have rented again for next year. Miss it already!

Patricia, so glad you enjoyed our cottage and visiting Maine. Looking forward to having you stay next year. Bucksport and Maine have such a charm that is a slice of heaven full of peace and serenity.
We had a wonderful 2 week vacation at Bella Cottage. The cottage was extremely well stocked and had everything we needed, plus the air conditioning was an added bonus! I do recommend water shoes as it makes it easier to get in and out of the water. The table and chairs on the deck are extremely comfortable we were able to see some amazing sunsets! It was tough to leave and we will be back soon. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Jessica, you are welcome! So glad you had a great stay!
My mom and I agree, we couldn't have chosen a more relaxing place to be. The cottage was immaculate and even better than described. Our stay was very special as it was just the two of us and we now had time to pay attention to each other. The cottage was quiet and offered all the luxuries you could want. We especially enjoyed the proximity to the pond. Kayaking was awesome and peaceful. Often I was the only one on the water. We saw turtles, osprey and 2 bald eagles, not to mention the geese and ducks that made the rounds twice a day! We couldn't have been happier-wish we could have stayed longer!
This property is lovely. Watching the morning fog roll in across the lake is so peaceful. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need. Our bed was comfy in the master room. The check-in procedure was a little different from other VBROs in that we had to meet the property manager to exchange the key, both for check in and out, but this didn't cause any delays. Nice folks. Nice home. We loved Maine!
Great property! Would definitely consider this as a return rental. Would have liked kayaks at the property & keyless entry. Fishing was great. It's a bitting pond! Saw osprey, eagles & ducks at various times on the pond. Had baby salamanders make their home in our kayaks. House was well stocked with kitchen, bathroom and linen supplies. About 40 minutes to Arcadia. Bucksport was a 10 minute drive to grocery store. Visit the friar house brewery for their lobster roll. Would recommend this property for a 5 people or less family gathering.
The location of this house is wonderful. The pond is secluded, quiet and relaxing. There is one neighbor close to the property but they were quiet and respectful.
The house is clean, spacious and fit our needs perfectly. The property manager and owner weee so nice and great to deal with. We had one small problem while there and they dealt with it immediately and worked hard to make our stay enjoyable.
The only recommendation I would have is to change to keyless entry. We had to coordinate with the property manager for check in and check out. She was accommodating but it would be keyless entry would be helpful.
Thank you for allowing us to stay at this wonderful property! My family thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was hard to say “ goodbye”
-location is lovely, right by the water reservoir, just bring water shoes so that you don't slip on the rocks entering the water. There seems to be a camping place near the property, but fortunately no one was there during our stay, so we had plenty of privacy. The only exception was some man who showed up one morning and started taking pictures from outside the house. But, the owner assured us later on that she knew him.
-the cottage is spacious with 3 bedrooms. There were some clothes left in the closet, but we managed to find space to put our things just fine. One of the smaller bedrooms has a see-through glass door, not a big deal for children, and its sofa bed is too short for an adult anyways. The living room has been lovely decorated with severed heads of deer hanging here and there.
-the place is mostly clean. We only had to clean the master bathtub (dead bugs, hair and debris). The outdoor lawn was also clean when we checked in. But you know, however the loons and geese are romantic at night, they are still living creatures. And they love to use the lawn, too. Which means that towards the end of stay, you will need the water shoes to safely cross the lawn covered in poop. On top of that, there was debris on the porch including the lawn furniture, but that's obviously impossible to control too. Unfortunately, the outdoor faucet had no running water during our stay, nor even a hose to connect to, so we couldn't clean that well.
-internet worked sporadically but there are also landline phones scattered throughout the house to keep you connected. We knew the phone worked well because we got all sorts of incoming calls during our stay, presumably from friends of the owner.
-the owner seems to care a lot about the cleanliness and the condition of the place. If you read the thick manual in the cottage that is, by the way, very different from the VRBO description, you will see that you are expected to do quite a bit of cleaning and replenishing before you leave, including washing the bed sheets, replacing all used coffee capsules, and driving the trash and recyclables to the downtown dumpster, no less.
-The property manager is not very knowledgeable about the property and its rules, but this is what the manual (see above) is for. Also, be prepared that what you agreed upon with the owner will not necessarily be honored by the property manager and vice versa. But these challenges make the vacation time more interesting, do they not?

Michael, so disappointed with all of your statements which are untrue and have not been an issue for anyone else. Yours is the first negative review we’ve ever had which is a strong indication about how unfair and ridiculous your review is. The facts surrounding your stay is the cottage was spotless inside and out. Your stay was so enjoyable that you originally gave it 5 stars deleted your review and almost a year later gave this poor review. I rated your stay with 3 stars as you left way past the check out time AND you left the cottage in a totally unsatisfactory state to the point that the cleaning person who usually spends 4 hours cleaning had to spend 6 hours cleaning. You weren’t happy with my 3 star review and contacted VRBO to have them remove your 5 star rating. Then all of the phone calls, texts and calls from you and then VRBO to try to get me to change your rating was a nightmare. I simply would not be bullied into what I thought was a generous rating considering the circumstances. Replacing coffee k cups, asking sheets and towels to be placed in the washer allow for the next guest to check in earlier and is common for VRBO rental properties. No cleaning is required. Your statement about the phone calls is untrue as we use our cell phones and our friends know when we are not there. These phones are purely for guest convenience and if they bothered you, you could have simply unplugged them. . Internet works so well that we control the level of oil for heat from Texas! The owners manual is not different from the VRBO description unless you are referring to minute details like replacing k-cups or simply putting sheets in the washer. The cleaning person removes trash. And removed your trash as you are well aware and cleaned the property before and after your arrival.
Property manager has been managing the property for many, many years and is familiar with the rules that are pretty simple.
Goose poop everywhere? Really? They migrate and don’t stay in our area for long. Loons are timid and don’t come on the lawn but go to secluded places to rest. No other complaints on this. The deck does occasionally get leaves and pine needles on it as the cottage is surrounded by trees.
Sorry you had to resort to such a vicious review. Going from 5 stars to 3 ... really really disappointing and yet another way to bully and intimidate me. Please for your sake look at the surrounding issues, take a look at the facts and work on accepting responsibility for your actions.
This is the first negative review we have had for all the years we have rented out the property. We work hard to make sure the property is in top notch condition as if we were renting it, hence all of the top notch reviews.
About the host
Hosted by Cathy Bella, owner; Sandy Robshaw Property Manager
We grew up in Southern California. My husband spent his summers in Bucksport as a kid working on his uncle's dairy farm. I've been a city girl my whole life with a passion for animals and fell in love with Bucksport the first time I saw it when I was 22 years old. We purchased the un-winterized 'camp' to vacation in summer before we purchased our first home! We built the new Cottage in 2005 in the same spot the old camp was located and plan to spend retirement years in the summer here.
Why they chose this property
We chose this property because of the beauty of the lake, the wild life, close to town as well as close to Bar Harbor, Acadia, Deer Isle, Ellsworth, Bangor, Castine and Camden. We love the small town atmosphere and the closeness to larger cities for convenience.
What makes this property unique
Fantastic views from the living room of the lake to see the loons, ducks, deer, turkeys, chipmunks, butterflies, birds, turtles, squirrels, an Eagle once in awhile. The setting is so peaceful by the lake, hearing the water, birds, and the sounds of nature. The view is breath taking and sitting outdoors on the deck to enjoy it is a favorite past time. Yet it is convenient to town for groceries and restaurants and so easy to get to Bar Harbor, Searsport, Belfast, Trenton and Blue Hill, my favorites. The house is a cottage, but with all the modern conveniences, modern kitchen, AIR CONDITIONING in living room and Master Bedroom, reclining leather couch and chairs, great master suite, front load oversize washer and dryer, internet, central vacuum, and a 65'' HDTV very private and peaceful -- a slice of heaven!
