What a gem. I had my wedding in Portugal and the bridal party stayed in this great spot. It’s centrally located and so clean and nice. He place was clean and so beautiful. We will be back.
This is my 4th stay at this amazing property with my large family of 24. We love it. Portimão is thriving, uber accessibility is excellent, house is like a museum and it’s a real privilege to be able to stay in such an interesting and historical house. The pool is incredible and total privacy in the middle of a town.
We were a family of 20, four generations from age 2 to 92 and all of us had a wonderful stay. Charming villa, eclectic antique furniture, clean rooms, beautiful outside space, warm swimming pool (paid a little extra to have it heated) . Great location near the waterside, playgrounds, shops, nice restaurants, supermarkets. We had cars but this is not strictly necessary unless you want to venture far (Ubers are cheap!). Also an unexpected add-on was Galina, the wonderful housekeeper who visited daily, cleaned the bathrooms etc and helped us with anything we might have needed. Also John the owner was very helpful and responsive in the lead up to our stay. Would highly recommend and we all want to return as soon as possible!
Simply superb. Wonderful house, host, housekeeper.
The pool is huge. The location is perfect for access to shops and restaurants.
I have been twice and booked for next year for a large family of 24.
This is an amazing property. It is packed full of photos, paintings, china, documents. I didn’t know if the lovely Galina could possibly keep it clean but somehow she does. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could wish for.The only issue we found with 2 year olds was the pool area: lots of room to play but few too many steps, a ledge round the pool that was very tempting etc. But John had warned us, of course, that small children would need close supervision. The pool was also bit cold but others enjoyed it . The garden and pool were very clean. We did all get bitten by invisible and silent mosquitoes so cover up in the evening. There are small shops within easy walking distance. We walked to the big Continente supermarket over the old bridge and took a taxi home with shopping. The town is a mixture of quaint and modern. A lot of closed down businesses, sadly. A trip over the river to Ferraguda in a river taxi/ferry is a must - really pretty with great restaurants.
The house was absolutely perfect for our large family holiday. Everything we needed was supplied and the woman who looks after the property was extremely helpful. The pool was also perfect and was an absolute favourite for all the children and adults. Evening drinks on the terrace became a nightly love. And finally, Portimao was a fantastic and wonderful surprise suppling us with a perfect family holiday.
We had a wonderful time, Galina our housekeeper was very helpful, letting us check in early and very understanding with our very large and diverse group! The house was perfect, giving everyone their own space and wonderful communal spaces to gather and eat together! The pool was the highlight of course, and Portimão had wonderful restaurants and the people were so friendly. Loved every moment!

Excellent holiday rental
Solar de Santa Isabel is an excellent rental choice in the heart of the Algarve. The house itself, with its authentic period charm, is a stones throw from both the town centre of Portimao and the marina.
The house offers everything a large family group could want. All the rooms were en-suite, large dining areas, private garden and pool.
We felt right at home, close to nightlife and restaurants and yet able to hold bbq's in the comfort of this wonderful house.
The staff and of course Pepe the dog could not have been anymore helpful to us.
All round a great house in a great location.
We had a fantastic stay here the villa is great and works for a big group. The kitchen could be a touch bigger not helped by the fact oven wasn’t working as well.
The linen and other facilities all very high quality. The housekeeper was a touch on the grumpy side. But the villa itself worked incredibly well.
Thank you!
We had a lovely week here, the location is great for the town and marina.
There were 21 of us (ages ranging from 6 months to 80) and there was plenty of space to be together or find time to be alone.
The property manager Galinda, was amazing and helped out with any questions we had really promptly.
Just a couple of downsides - the property is advertised as having air-con, but in fact only one room had it. The rest only had ceiling fans - which in 34˚ heat, didn't really do a lot.
The antiques and artefacts are fitting with the property, but the amount of photographs and other items that are placed on all the surfaces make it difficult to find space for your own belongings.
We had a family reunion of 3 generations, all adults. The house was big, spacious, and offered lots of private places, both indoors and out, for quiet chats, big meals together, and lounging by the pool. We ate all our meals outside at the various covered patios. All bedrooms were ensuite and most had private sitting rooms. Definitely old world charm, but functional and comfortable with good plumbing, lots of hot water, and tons of glasses and place settings to be found in the kitchen. We used the electric juicer every morning for oranges and lemon aid. The location was perfect - walk out the door to cafés, restaurants, and convenience store, steps from the sea/river promenade. The housekeeper was there each day, discrete, nice to have the garbage taken out, our beds made, and washrooms freshened up. I would like to see pool towels available, we used our bathroom towels and bought some beach towels. A great stay!

Amazing stay
We stayed in the house with a group of 22 youngsters and had an incredible time.
At first we were unsure about the size of our group and didn’t know which of the two houses (Solar de Santa Isabel or Casa da Viuda, which belong to the same owner) we should rent. There was a lot of see-saw but the owner was very helpful and very patient.
Finally we rented Solar de Santa Isabel. The house is fantastic; it is huge and offers enough privacy for everyone. It is particularly convenient that every room has its own bathroom. The garden was also beautiful; an excellent place to relax and enjoy the sun or to have a barbecue. Another highlight was of course the swimming pool in which we spent most of our days.We were also amazed by the friendliness and the helpfulness of the housekeeper.
The location is great too. It is in the heart of the old town of Portimao, in a quiet street. The water front is just a couple of meters down the road and you will find nice cafés and restaurants there. To go to the beach by car takes only 5-10 min., and taking a taxi costs just about 4 Euro.
Altogether we spent a wonderful week in this house which exceeded our expectations. I can absolutely recommend it to any kind of group especially because the price is totally fair!
Stayed with my family aged from 3 - 80 years. Beautiful pool area with lots of outdoor seating space. Well equipped kitchen. Historic house filled with interesting and beautiful things. Short drive to lovely beaches.
We enjoyed a week at Santa Isabela in June, it was perfect in terms of location for a large group of friends to catch up. We loved the pool and very much appreciated the regular housekeeping from Galina who was really helpful and responsive. We would love to return again soon.
Charming house steeped in history with an incredible patio.
very warm welcome and great availability of the housekeeper. Very clean rental.
Small inconvenience, room on the street side a bit noisy.
A mixed group of 12 adults ranging from 18 to 82, every one enjoyed the villa, it's location and especially the garden and pool area. Kitchen was well equipped but only negative was the washing machine which needs repairing or replacing. Overall a lovely villa and would visit again.
Amazing gem of a property! Perfect for a large holiday with family and friends.
Walking distance to tons of restaurants and shops in Portimão. Wonderful pool for many hours of entertainment.
Hope to come back many times.
Wonderful 16th century Villa full of antiques in quiet neighborhood but walking distance to restaurants, markets, shopping, etc. No need for a car and Ubers are very inexpensive.
Housekeeper Galina is a true gem and a lovely person. We ranged in age from 17 to 84 and all loved it. The pool is big and was enjoyed tremendously. The owner, John, is Very helpful and quick to respond. The Villa has a fascinating history. We stayed for a month (with people coming and going) and no one wanted to leave!!! Many of us live on Maui, BTW, but still wanted to stay there forever! Best vacation and accomodations ever for us! People are friendly and helpful and were patient and kind with our few phrases of Portuguese! We felt almost like "locals" after a month and we cried and so did new friends when we had to leave at the end of our glorious month!
We had a wonderful stay in this quirky Manor House. There we 17 of us with ages ranging from under two to eighty six.
The area is more of a local town but Alvor and Praia de Rocha were all within a short cab ride. Local amenities were all within walking distance. We ate at some great local restaurants which were all reasonably priced. We also made use of the BBQ next to the pool.
The rooms were spacious and clean.
John the owner kept in contact throughout the booking process and was quick to reply to any questions we had. He asked for a cot and a high chair and they were available on check in.
Gallina helped us to keep the place clean and tidy and was there everyday. She would go out of her way to help with any problems or queries. She even tried to help us sort out our tests for our return. She is a great asset to the house.
