We have stayed in this cottage before and absolutely love it. It’s clean and tidy and has everything you need for a stay. The location is perfect for walking and seeing the sites around Symonds Yat . The Cottage is on quite steep Hill so if you have any mobility issues it might be hard for you. It is so tranquil and peaceful the host is polite and communication easy we will definitely be back again .
This is the third time we have stayed at this lovely holiday home. Amazing position for visiting the beautiful area of Symonds Yat with our dog. Everything you could need for a relaxing stay. Highly recommend the Old Ferrie Inn for meals or just a drink by the river.
The cottage is set in the perfect location if you want a quiet break away from it all.
With beautiful walks from the door step and a lovely pub a 10 minute walk.
The property is clean, modern, well equipped, dog friendly and right on the river. Lovely walks from the doorstep and there are plenty of walks within a short drive. The local pub is a 10 minute easy walk and does great food.
Absolutely lovely the property was clean and bright with amazing views. The communal garden was great and the little courtyard garden at the back was a wonderful a little subtract . I
Set in a beautiful location. The house has Everything you should need. There's no phone reception, but WiFi available so never a problem. Would definitely stay again.
Lovely comfortable cottage with all you could need, beautiful surroundings, the only downside was we were unable to get taxis or Uber to come to the property, there is usually a ferry to take you across the water, but unfortunately it isn’t gonna be working until possibly after Easter, so we sweet talked the bar staff into taking us back for a small fee - definitely would stay again - great communication from the host Debbie.
The cottage is well equipped and comfortable - everything we needed - the only suggestion is that a mirror in the double bedroom would have been useful. Communication with the owner was quick and simple, and we had all the information we needed to find and access the property (the access road is quite narrow, but you get used to it!). A friendly pub that serves excellent food (Ye Old Ferrie Inn) within easy walking distance. Good walks straight from the cottage and others further afield. The hand ferries across the river at 2 local pubs don't seem to run reliably at the moment, so don't rely on them.

Thank you for your excellent review Sue and apologies for the late response. The reason being that we have come over to the cottage ourselves (after quite a while) to find our large swivel moveable mirror above the hairdryer has gone missing :-( assuming taken by a previous guest which is annoying as it matched the unit. I wanted to respond (for the purpose of other guests reading this review) that I will be replacing and bringing another next time we are over. Kind regards Debbie

nice cottage with parking 1 mile away due to road collapsing.
alternative track to cottage is unsuitable for motor vehicles .signs say this and its true. had to carry our suit cases and God knows what else 1 mile and then 1 mile back. cottage was very nice with real wood floors and comfy bed but we also had mice in living room and kitchen. would return if they ever get upper road re opened.

How disappointing to receive this 2* review as most have been 5* with nothing lower than 4* - we would have hoped that the property & area were rated, rather than the current situation.
I’m sure you appreciate that the current main access road closure is completely out of our control and whilst the lower road access is not ideal, it is drivable with caution - we have driven it ourselves. It is also the only access for the houses along the river As owners, in this situation, we will always pre warn our guests & if they are concerned, give them the opportunity to cancel.
Regarding the mouse situation, the cottage has been thoroughly checked and no sign of current mice habitation has been found. We were at the cottage ourselves prior to this guest and saw no sign. Therefore, we can only conclude due to the hot weather with windows and doors left open, a mouse (& you did quote singular on your email to us) has come in from outside, attracted by food left out in the kitchen. Possibly a hazard of the countryside especially due to the proximity of woodland behind.
You mention you would return again, so assume you liked the cottage itself - again complimented in your email - hopefully next time you will have a better experience.

Great Location
A well equipt property which overlooks the river wye. Saracens Head easily reached via the ferry which runs directly below the property & Ferrie Inn Pub a 15min walk back down the lane.
Road Access
This is probably the main issue you maybe aware of & yes the road is extremely narrow in places especially as you enter the lane (Ferrie Inn Pub). Once this is navigated however it does open up more & there are a few passing points on the way. Obvious benefit with smaller cars but standard can access also such as a Vauxhall Insignia in our case.

Thank you Ryan for your excellent review.
Also, thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the temporary access via the narrow riverside lane due to the road closure. We are hoping that progress can be made to re-open the road very soon. Hopefully welcome you back one day!
Overall, location great, good spot to explore local amenities, good walking to be had. However, although the decor was good; the bathroom let the whole house down as it was badly in need of a total re - curb and an issue with almost no hot water pressure to the bath and hand basin, but the electric shower was OK. The left hand side of the bath panel was disintegrating and looked DREADFULLY mouldy and really let the rest of the house down.
The kitchen was well stocked with the usual items, but perhaps a veg steamer might come in handy.
Cottage very nice indeed and well managed by Debbie. I did not check out the terrain before booking though and as I am afraid of heights I found the access road rather unnerving, I would probably get used to it in time but business interests called me back to Somerset so it was academic.
Nice house with beautiful views.
The house had everything you could need for your stay and the patio at the back was just the right size for our 2 dogs. A little bit disappointed that I Had to do a bit of cleaning when I arrived, windows covered in cobwebs inside, outside desperately need a clean, kitchen tiles very greasy and floor needed a wipe over.
We were also disappointed not to be told that the road would be closed for 3 days of our stay right outside side the mews entrance, couldn't get the car out.
House exceeded expectations. Lovely comfortable sofa and fab views.
Road in is narrow but the locals seems to have no issues so something you get used to quickly.
Lovely location, fab pubs on the doorstep and enjoyed kayaking down the river. Will come again.
Our second year running staying at this cottage. The cottage is spacious for a small family and is well equipped. Communications with the owner helpful and friendly. The cottage is in a great position with beautiful views and just a very short stroll to the river with lots of walks, activities and pubs nearby. Ye Old Ferrie Inn just a 10 minute walk away has gorgeous views up and down the river with inside & outside seating (book ahead though, it gets busy!). Loads of canoeing centres around, we went with Canoe the Wye which is the closest and was well organised and made for a lovely day. The Hedge Puzzle and mini golf course just down the road was good fun and Goodrich Castle is only a 10 minute drive away and a good day out. The climb up to Symonds Yat Rock nearly killed me but the views from the top are breathtaking, definitely worth the hike!
All in all, a great area to visit and an ideal cottage from which to enjoy it. Thanks Debbie, we hope to return again some time.
The property had everything we wanted for our stay. We were very disappointed with the cleanliness and the bathroom light hanging off..

Hi Shona, I am really disappointed with your review and would like to find out more from you. I have the same cleaner & she has always had good reviews, also we don't have a bathroom light, just a light bulb attached to the ceiling. We visited the cottage a few days after you & didn't see any evidence of problems.... but of course, keen to know more so I will message you directly.
Thanks
Debbie
