Terrific Mid-coast Location: Conveniently located. 10 minutes to Waldoboro or Friendship. 25 minutes to Damariscotta, Pemaquid and Round Pond; 30 minutes to Rockland and 40 minutes to Camden.
Great Views: Cottage sits directly on shoreline overlooking picturesque cove with unobstructed views of undeveloped islands and an Audubon reserve. The shoreline includes 80 feet of private granite ledge.
Perfect for Sports Enthusiasts & Those Who Enjoy Country Living: Ideal for sunbathing, swimming, kayaking and canoeing. Trails for hiking and off-road biking nearby. Anchorage of boat possible out on the cove. Our cottage is located on a private, summer cottage association road. The location is peaceful and quiet but not isolated. Three storage sheds and a forested area provide privacy from the road.
The Cottage: Our cottage is a traditional, rustic, Maine cottage. It has a recently expanded second floor and renovated kitchen and bath with modern appliances and bathroom fixtures. It is furnished with simple, modern furnishings for easy maintenance during your stay and quick clean-up on your date of departure.
Please note that we have decided to cover the exterior of the cottage in cedar shingles. The facade facing the garden is complete. The remaining work will be done after the summer season. The cottage is watertight as we have already put up the vapor barrier (which appears blue in the listing pictures) over which the shingles will be attached.

Fantastic camp, beautiful location, sunsets galore. Richard is a great host. The kitchen is well equipped aside from oven not working when we were there. He also has great taste in minimal decor. There’s a decent grocery store in Waldoboro and farm stands galore. We hope to return.
This VRBO stay was just about all we could have asked for: pleasantly simple cottage that covered all the basics, beautiful view, direct and private access to swimming and reading on the water. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook up all 8 kinds of seafood we bought nearby, and the backyard was the perfect spot to feast and look out on the water. Back Cove Road is also perfectly situated between some of our favorite spots in the midcoast. The owner was attentive and helpful in resolving a minor issue that cropped up while we stayed. We would absolutely come back!
We loved walking/running around the neighborhood. The views from the house are amazing. The wifi was fast and the water was hot. The departure checklist was a little intense and involved vacuuming the floors and couches, wiping down windows, replacing paper products etc (as per the cabin guide, the cleaning person primarily sanitizes -- it was clean when we arrived, but dusty). So the vibe overall is more DIY than I'm used to (ie there was a shopvac that lives in the kitchen that we used to vacuum), but definitely worth it. I would recommend.
This is a house that helps you focus your energy on what matters: Maine's beauty. If you're looking for frills and whistles, you might want to keep looking. But for us, it had exactly the amenities we needed to enjoy kayaking, picnics and sunsets. Sure, we didn't take long showers and we rationed our water. In a drought, why would you consume more than you need anyway?
The strong wifi came in handy a couple of days of remote work, even in zoom calls down by the water.
We called it our base camp because it was perfectly located for everything we wanted to explore. Like a cabin you'd find in the woods, come with your own sheets and towels. Unlike a cabin, you have some nice amenities that make you feel like you're glamping.
If we have any gripe, it's over the cleaning fee. Apparently it goes into sanitizing, not into any deep cleaning, and we only learned this a few days before departing. You'll be instructed to leave it very clean for the next guests, which unexpectedly put a dent in our departure plans. Just be sure to read all the house rules and request the departure list in advance so you know what you're getting yourself into.
All in all, we had a great stay and would definitely book here again.

Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
Major Disappointment
Kitchen surfaces were not clean and refrigerator was rusty and filthy. Mattress was old thin futon that was stained and covered in plastic. Sofa was covered with dog hair most of chairs broken and dangerous to sit on. Hot water supply was insufficient to take a normal shower and wash hair. We left 3 days early and due to unhygienic kitchen were unable to prepare meals.
Richard's home was even more lovely than we could have imagined! The location is one of the most beautiful and peaceful place we've ever stayed. There are views of the ocean from every window. The house is perfect and simply decorated, with a great kitchen for cooking. The big flat rocks by the water are perfect for spending the days reading and relaxing. We saw tons of fish, seals and birds, including bald eagles! Bring kayaks for exploring the islands near by!
Richard was very communicative and beyond helpful with questions and suggestions. We cannot wait to return soon. Thanks Richard!
Beautiful waterfront location. Accesss for Kayaks in clam protected area. House had everything we needed for the week.
Richard responded quickly with suggestions and answers to our questions.

Quiet, comfortable cottage at the water's edge.
We had a wonderful, quiet week at the cottage. For city dwellers, being by the water is a dream. Great sunrises, sunsets, fog watching, seal spotting and herons flying by. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable and uncomplicated stay. Richard was very helpful in getting us all the information we needed about the cottage and the environs. The new Jameson Lobster Pound in Friendship is a great addition to the area for a laid back and most convenient lobster roll or dinner. If you like cooking, the kitchen is equipped for that, too. We don't kayak, but the bay is perfect for it. Hiking is great around Camden and there are many things to explore (The Olsen House, farm stands, artisan shops, lobster pounds) on the back roads.

Great escape, rustic rejuvenation!
This place was awesome. We rented a kayak from a nearby shop (they delivered // picked up) and spent the week padding around the cove. Lots of sea-life! Great view of the ocean from the kitchen and backyard, incredible star-gazing too.
The upstairs addition to the cottage is really neat, feels like a log cabin, very peaceful. Richard is a great guy, definitely recommend renting this place, we'd happily do so again. Fully rejuvenated after a week in Waldoboro, a fantastic escape from the city.
Things to bring that made our trip amazing: wireless router (there's a cable modem, but no wifi), hammock (stretch it between trees), 1000 piece puzzle, projector (movies on the walls/ceiling), and of course, your dog.

Week long getaway
Richard was more than accommodating! This little cabin was plenty for the week and reasonably priced. Very private! Quiet. Just what my boyfriend and I needed for a getaway. We spent the entire week on the water in our kayaks. My boyfriend saw a seal the first day out!! We went up to go to the lobster festival, that was fun. It was excellent!! Thank you Richard!!

Lover of (almost) all things Maine!
Why they chose this property
The Medomak between Waldoboro and Friendship was never really built-up, unlike much of the Mid-Coast Region. The area is still somewhat rural. We loved the cottage's wonderful waterfront location and its views out onto a beautiful cove. It's a very peaceful spot.
What makes this property unique
Traditional Maine 'camp' (camp is the term Mainers use to describe cottages). These cottages are becoming scarcer and scarcer as more and more are being converted to year-round houses. We fell for the place because of its simplicity and traditional feel.
