Both sides of the home are fully-equipped with linens, kitchen supplies, patio and beach furniture, a barbecue grill, and a tiki hut provides an escape from the warm Florida sunshine. Come to enjoy some of the many attractions that the area has to offer, or just lay in a hammock under a palm tree. There is something for everyone at this beachfront paradise!
The home is located on the site of Henry Flagler’s Long Key Fishing Camp and it’s where author, Zane Grey vacationed and wrote some of his works in the early 1900s. Long Key Fishing Camp was established on Long Key in Florida in 1908 by Henry M. Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway Company for the use of tourists to enjoy what was described as 'some of the best fishing in the world.' It initially served a housing for some of the employees who were building the Overseas Railroad to Key West.
Long Key Fishing Camp featured a two-story hotel and a number of cottages. The camp was made famous by author Zane Grey, who was a regular resident, and a pioneer of the sport of sail fishing. Grey became the first president of the Long Key Fishing Club in 1917. The list of other early distinguished guests included Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, Andrew Mellon, Charles Kettering, and other notables.
The fishing camp was destroyed by the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, as was the Overseas Railroad. After the latter was destroyed, the Overseas Highway (U.S. 1), was built across Long Key in replacement

Loved this ocean-front stay with our two teens! Paddleboard, kayaks, outdoor deck and tiki hut were all appreciated. They had everything we needed, from kitchen to laundry and even a bait freezer. Would definitely come back!
Great set up, amazing view, private, and good amenities. We used the kayaks regularly, caught snapper and a shark from the dock, and had a great time! The rental didn’t come with any hand soap and the dispensers for the shower were also empty. We also only had 1 or 2 rolls of toilet paper for the week so I’d recommend either bringing your own or adding these to your grocery order so you don’t have to go back out to get them. The grill on our side was also very rusty so we used the grill from the other side the night we needed it. Minor inconveniences and would definitely recommend staying here.
Great property. Had a wonderfully quiet and peaceful stay. Will be back!

The location of this home is spectacular it is beautiful, because it is literally on the beach. Having said that the house needs a whole revamp, things are falling apart and show a lot of wear and tear. The sliding door that leads to the back of the house and goes out to the deck was black from not being clean and very worn. My husband and I stayed on the opposite side of this duplex in 2021 and maybe because we were excited about the location did not notice certain things. With the amount of money we paid back in 2021 and now there has been minimal changes. Basically the two sides need major renovations - the owners need to bring the entire home up to speed with a full gut and new furniture and decor without changing the price. My husband and I travel a lot and have paid similar amounts close or above what we paid for this house with spectacular views like this one and the homes have been state of art. Sincerely the DiGrande’s
Second time staying here and we loved it again! We stayed 10 days this time and enjoyed every second.Only issue we had this time was some questionable wash cloths, and utensils needed to be cleaned. Very minor and easy to deal with and we would certainly still come back and refer our friends/family
We enjoyed our stay very much. Loved the sunrises and sunsets, hanging out under the hammock and on the dock. Home was exactly what we needed and we hope to stay there again whwm back in the keys!
The place was clean and very well stocked. It is a small place but perfect for us as we wanted to be outside mostly..........that being said, the deck and beach were perfect and very accessible which made our stay amazing. It is a quiet tucked away place which is exactly what we were looking for.
Great view of the Atlantic Ocean with a quiet beach. The king bed in the master bedroom was comfortable. Great food right across the street at Lick-it BBQ.
This was great for my family. private deck and beach is awesome with dock included. you can fish right from the dock or sit and watch the stars and sea life in the evening.

Thank you for coming and enjoying out little piece of paradise.
Hope to see you soon.
Truly the site for a tropical vacation of your dreams. The house is clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. The beach is spectacular. Our group, consisting of two adult couples loved it.
What a place. This was a cozy and quaint 2 bedroom duplex located right on the beach and on the walk/bike path. The house served us quit well but it was the outdoor amenities that truly made this place wonderful. Between the decks and the beach you really want to spend all of your time outside enjoying the view and ocean. I would highly recommend this home and will definitely rent this place again in the future!!
Love the location. Beautiful and relaxing. Place was pretty clean and quiet. We were disappointed there was no hot tub even though it was listed in the amenities. That was one of the reasons we booked here. Hopefully they remove that on their listing. There’s a good pizza place across the street.
The paddle boards and kayaks made it! Don’t worry about the size-SO MANY great places outside-in the shade-to hang out. Some of us are concerned about sun. Some of us aren’t. It was perfect.

This is paradise
My wife and I had an incredible weekend. The home is very clean, the kitchen has everything you need and the views are amazing. We enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boards, and also laying on the beach. Cozy home with the perfect beach vibe. We are planning to come back next year and bring friends to rent the other side.

we are pleased you had a wonderful weekend, we work hard to keep the property in great shape and give all the true KEYS experience
thank you
The perfect getaway with a beautiful sand beach! We loved that we could easily tie our boat up on the beach :) we caught lots of mangrove snapper and turned it into dinner. Caught nurse and black tip sharks at night. The bed is comfy and everything is nice and clean. Our pup had the best week of her life playing on the beach! We took the boat around long key and saw more than 10 sea turtles, a few dolphins, lots of sharks and barracuda. The bridge has lots of tarpon too. The neighbors were very nice people so sharing the very Large beach was just fine. The place next door kick it BBQ was good food and vacation vibes - and islamorada was just a 15 minute drive to our favorite restaurants. We will return again someday! Zero negatives about this place!

Our home sits on the same property as the historic Long Key Fishing Camp. See details below.
Why they chose this property
Long Key gained national prominence through its championing by author Zane Grey, who was a regular resident. Someone can check this, but I believe that Grey was America's first millionaire writer. Grey was a dentist who turned cowboy and became a prolific writer. During the winter of 1911, Grey vacationed at Long Key while writing his novel 'The Light of the Western Stars.' King fishing was the popular sport fishing in those times and the sailfish was considered a nuisance as it would steal the bait used for kingfish. In fact, the sailfish was dubbed 'boohoo.'
Zane Grey, along with a local fishing guide named Bill Partrea, would spend their days fishing. It is not known why Grey took to boohoo fishing, but he did, and on light tackle. Year after year, Grey, and his brother R. C, returned to Long Key. With the support of other fishermen, sail fishing became the sport of sports for Florida Keys fishing enthusiasts. There is still a creek on Long Key known as Zane Grey Creek.
Among Long Key amenities were a 75-room guest hotel, general store, a post office and 14 cottages. Normally, a fleet of 12 fishing boats and guides were available. The two-story clubhouse and cottages were on the Atlantic side, but the boats were generally docked on the Gulf side.
Guests arrived by boat or train. A tram passed under the track to connect the two sides. The guest list included Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, Andrew Mellon, William Hearst, Charles Kettering, and other notables. Louis P. Schutt was the first manager. When L.P. became the manager of the Casa Marina Hotel in Key West, his son George, took over as manager at Long Key.
The Long Key Fishing Club was officially formed with Zane Grey as the first president from March 1917 to 1920. The stated purpose was, 'To Develop the Best and Finest Traits of Sport, To Restrict the Killing of Fish, To Educate the Inexperienced Angler by Helping Him, And To Promote Good Fellowship
