About this property
Adventurous And Comfortable Glamping In The Heart Of Yuba River Gold Country
Venture to the heart of Yuba River country and experience the rustic chic comfort of “glamping” (glamorous camping) in a 30’ pacific yurt. A remedy for "nature deficit disorder", this is your opportunity to taste the magic of simple living in the round…
Located on the north san juan ridge at the edge of tahoe national forest, endless outdoor activities abound. Enjoy incredible hiking, crystal-clear swimming holes and world-class mountain biking trails during summer and pristine snow-play areas away from the crowds during winter. Take in gorgeous scenic drives and numerous points of historical interest--including malokoff diggins--from California gold rush period. Discover the active gold mining town of Allegheny, the scenic beauty of downieville or soak the afternoon away at sierra hot springs in sierra ville. The village of Nevada city--with all it has to offer--is just 20 minutes away.
Or simply relax...
As much a nature blind as a dwelling, the yurt is located on 5 peaceful acres of mixed oak and madrone woodland with a filtered view of the sierra foothills, a claw foot bath tub under the stars and much more. Light and airy with both propane and wood heat, the well-designed interior features a spacious kitchen, a comfy queen bed and a full bathroom. The kitchen is stocked for a cook with quality cooking equipment and is supplied with oils, sauces and spices. Tranquil, without phones or TV--but with WiFi—there are games and plenty of good books. A perfect anytime retreat!

About the host
Hosted by Kathy Ocean
We're Jim and Kathy Ocean, musicians and concert producers who decided to share our little piece of Russian River paradise--which we named 'RiverSea'--after landing in Guerneville the summer of 2004.
When we met, we lived between Jim's houseboat in the Martinez Marina and Kathy's yurt in the Sierra Foothills near Nevada City. Before moving to Guerneville, we sold the houseboat and turned the yurt property into a long-term rental. Having discovered how much we enjoy the vacation rental biz, we decided in 2013 to 'reclaim' the 'Yuba Yurt' for ourselves and fellow vacation rental adventurers. (Don't be surprised to see a houseboat in our future vacation rental offerings, as we both miss being rocked to sleep and waking to the sound of quacking ducks.)
We consider ourselves very lucky to be in the position of meeting wonderful people from all over the world. We take great pleasure in sharing our homes near Guerneville and Nevada City and creating spaces where people like you can relax, explore and recharge.

Why they chose this property
In the mid 1990's, Kathy--a rural animal at heart--found herself going quietly mad while raising her young children in suburbia. One day a friend showed her a picture of a peculiar structure called a 'yurt' in the Whole Earth Catalog. From that moment, when feeling particularly frazzled, Kathy began visualizing & decorating a yurt atop a wooded knoll in the mountains. Inhabiting and adding detail to the visualization worked wonders as a calming device (and she did it often and enthusiastically). Several years later, while visiting friends in the mountains, Kathy spotted a flyer on a bulletin board at the local market for a yurt for sale on 5 acres. She immediately called the phone number, and ten minutes later walked into the real live version of the yurt and property she had been visualizing for years. (The rest as they say . . . is history.)
What makes this property unique
There's nothing quite like living in a round space with only a tiny barrier between the inside and the outside. The energy flows freely. You feel comfortable and protected while fundamentally connected to nature around you. With all the basic amenities of the modern world, but without the clutter of more than you need, tensions tend to melt away leaving calm and clarity in its place. Plus--from the lightest snow to the heaviest rainfall, yurts create the most amazing soundscapes. If you appreciate nature and are curious about alternative and earth-friendly lifestyle choices, you owe it to yourself to spend some time in the Yuba Yurt.
