About this property

Converted Pole Barn Near Beach Becomes Luxury Destination

Luxurious amenities combine with beach casual to make our Nid d'Amour (Love Nest) distinctive. In it's prior life a 'pole barn', this property has now been restyled into seventeen hundred square feet of self-contained comfort. Just a short walk to the community beach access where the Mouth of the Elwha River and Strait of Juan de Fuca converge, with acres of sandy beach. Most days it seems like your own private beach, with only a few surfers or beachcombers. When you arrive at your destination the refreshing sea air tells you immediately that this is a very special home-away-from-home and the scented evergreens whisper their welcome, and the waves provide a relaxing, natural "soundtrack",.

While oriented to the woods and fully fenced for maximum privacy, guests are lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf. Rainy days on Freshwater Bay are a delight because as the tin roof patters above, you are coz y with a cheery fire, books to read or board games to play. We are located less than 1/4 mile walk from the public beach access where the mouth of the Elwha River meets the bay.. In addition to the many known attractions of county, We have guests who "bird" at the mouth of the river. We have hosted guests interested in the Elwha Dam Removal Project, authors who crave a quiet place to think and write, as well as the film crew who documented the history of the river and salmon habitat in a documentary called "The Breach". A lot of guests feels we are centrally located to all the natural wonders here on the Olympic Peninsula.

Snuggle by the fireplace before slipping into the silky comfort of the European linens on your Cal-King canopied bed. The second bedroom contains an Eastern King (wider than longer), Enjoy cooking in a well-equipped galley style kitchen .Lyndee refuses to cook on vacation-or ever anymore- but guests who enjoy cooking have said we have the best equipped kitchen of any vacation rental they have visited. Or. enjoy the unique flavors of the Pacific Northwest at one of the many excellent restaurants in town. (We are eight miles west of downtown Port Angeles, the park entrance for Hurricane Ridge or Victoria ferries).

Take a dip in your double fenced private hot tub, count all the stars you can't see living in town and revel in the sounds and smell closeness of the sea. We frequently get guests who tell us "'last night was the best I've slept in ages'' While often used by lovers who want to get away from it all, (and frequent honeymooners), the house has been enthusiastically received by families wanting a unique location to use as their home base while they explore the wonders of the Olympic Peninsula or day-trip to Victoria, British Columbia.(check current Cobid regulations). To enter Canada an enhanced drivers license or passports are required for each traveler. We took two grandchildren to Canada and at that time they accepted birth certificates and, if parents divorced, a notarized letter from the non-custodial parent granting permission for the day trip. Originally with only a master bedroom with large Cal-King bed, we have added a second bedroom with a plush Eastern King bed, both covered with imported Italian linens. There is also a sofabed in the Great Room.

Also on display, our dad's piano from when he ran away from home to become 'a serious jazz musician, before he grew up, married our mom and became Washington's best known jazz educator, Dr. Ralph Mutchler. We are currently collecting photos from the various jazz clinics and stage band festivals dad and Olympic College hosted, to post above his piano--our very first guest actually said, 'No way-I knew Ralph!' If you can provide one of the missing stage band tapes, stay one night free! In the living room the couch also converts to a 'full' sleeper (two small kids or one teenager) with tempurpedic foam added for comfort. Some guests could care less about TV but we do have a Smart TV( Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Discovery Plus, AMC, Showtime, HBO Max) and hundreds of DVDs. We have Prime streaming and a huge selection of channels.

Kid-friendly amenities include board games, glider, a fire pit for weenie and marshmallow roasts (we provide s'more supplies) plus, it's a 5-10 minute walk or drive to the beach and the Elwha Delta.

The owners of the Love Nest live next door and are delighted to help their guests plan their excursions, recommend wonderful places to dine or even arrange for a masseuse to attend you after a full day of activities.

Cool house
This unique home was a great fit for our family. We were able to bring our dog and were grateful for the fenced yard. The beach is just down the road. There were actually surfers to watch along with the birds and harbor seals. We enjoyed the hot tub (robes provided!) and the fire pit (firewood and s'mores provided!). We were impressed with the heated tile floors. We were very comfortable in this home. Lyndee and Allen are wonderful hosts. We really enjoyed our stay.

Comfortable Getaway
The property is close to a wonderful beach with lots of people surfing, and some wildlife viewing. Everyone was respectful of this private beach with no garbage and lots of room for privacy. The pole barn featured a private hot tub, indoor jacuzzi tub, well stocked kitchen for cooking, large rooms, comfortable beds and an eclectic collection of art. The unit was very clean and comfortable.

Would ABSOLUTELY Come Back!
Allen met us on arrival and was friendly and helpful! The home is well appointed and well stocked with all the supplies we needed for our stay. The place is unique and charming and quiet... The sound of the waves on the beach was an amazing thing to wake up to! Quite well placed for all the peninsula adventures from hiking to beachcombing to art and history... 10/10 would recommend!

Great spot!
We had a great stay at this property. Pros: Sweet, generous, kind hosts. Dog friendly inside & out with fenced yard (huge bonus), hot tub, quiet dead end street, short peaceful walk to the beach, pretty much everything you need at the house including cooking oil, spices, ice in the freezer, bottled water (not needed though.) Cons: Only real downsides were a ton of unnecessary objects on all surfaces and walls (a little overwhelming with every square foot covered/cluttered with something), and beds need new mattresses - both had deep troughs where you lay down. Those things aside, we will definitely be back here. Great stay! Thank you!

My wife and I live nearby and are almost always available for assistance. Just call or knock on our door.

Why they chose this property

Great rural wooded area with no through traffic in a quiet neighborhood and near the ocean. Lower Place Road is a double dead end street so there is no through traffic . Cool evenings and warm sunny summer days with low humidity and NO mosquitos. Lyndee says "think San Francisco and dress in layers." Comfortable and private back patio to unwind at day's end. Some of our guests are hung up by the idea of "no air conditioning". Lyndee is a total hedonist and if we needed it, she would have arranged for it!

What makes this property unique

Completely fenced yard for small kids and dogs. We stress privacy-perfect for 1 or 2 couples as a getaway. Year round hot tub. Indoor jacuzzi. Very roomy accommodations for sleeping and "hanging out".
