Make your next retreat extra sweet when you stay at 'Raspberry Cottage,' a 2-bed, 1-bath vacation rental home that sleeps 5 in Waldoboro! Nestled in a meadow of wildflowers, this cottage is that off-the-grid getaway you've always dreamt of - with charming midcoast towns mere minutes away. Whether you prefer to explore by bike, kayak, rowboat, or foot; adventure awaits just outside the door!

-- THE PROPERTY --

Bedroom 1: Full Bed | Bedroom 2: 2 Twin Beds | Living Room: Pullout Bed

It won't take long for you to find out why they call it 'Raspberry Cottage;' If the bright pink door doesn't tip you off, the interior will! From soft pink furnishings to pretty pink bedding, this home leaves no room without a bit of raspberry inspiration!

Fishing in the Cove will be fun while you stay here. Bring your bait and tackle (and Maine fishing license) down to the shore and hop into the rowboat provided for direct access to the usually calm waters of Back River Cove. When the tide is up wade in and have a refreshing cool water swim.

Retreat inside when the weather cools down to warm up by the gas parlor stove. When the cottage feels cozy, pop a classic VHS into the VCR-equipped TV in the first bedroom, while others enjoy a good book and a great view from the living room.

Treat friends and family to a home-cooked meal each evening. The kitchen is well-equipped to assist with any east coast cuisine. When the clams have been baked, bring dinner outside for an at-home picnic on the deck!

End the evening just as you started it - outside, enjoying the fresh air and waterfront views from Adirondack chairs. When you're ready to retire for the night, retreat to either the full bed in the first bedroom or one of the 2 twin beds in the second bedroom.

-- THE LOCATION --

'Raspberry Cottage' is an outdoorsy dream on the coast of Maine. Spend late July picking blueberries from the meadow, springtime mountain biking or hiking along the nearby trails, and any season enjoying a leisurely cruise around Back River Cove - whether by canoe, kayak, or rowboat!

Midcoast Maine boasts beaches, boutiques, galleries, music and plenty of places to eat! Spend the day sunbathing at Pemaquid Beach (Bristol), Drift Inn Beach or Birch Point Beach (toward Port Clyde) or nearby Martins Point Beach in Friendship before diving into some delectable Maine cuisine! Be sure to stop by the closest "watering hole" in Waldoboro Village, The Narrows Tavern, The Odd Alewives Farm Brewery (new this year) or the famous Moody's Diner (since 1927). In the Rockland area there's McLoons Lobster Shack in Spruce Head, Café Miranda or the Rockland Café. In the Boothbay area try the Chowder House Boat Bar or the Boothbay Craft Brewery and Tavern. On the Pemaquid Peninsula in Damariscotta there's King Eider's Pub, Schooner's Landing or Newcastle Publick House. Go toward the Pemaquid Lighthouse State Park (not to be missed) to the Anchor and Muscungus Bay Lobster (BYOB) in Round Pond or Shaw's in New Harbor. All are within 30 miles of the property!

If you're a museum fanatic, you'll love Owls Head Transportation Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Center For Maine Contemporary Art and perhaps the Coastal Children's Museum in the Rockland vicinity, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (Boothbay) and the Maine Maritime Museum (Bath). Those who prefer a shopping spree will find stores abound in Damariscotta, home of Reny's ("A Maine Adventure"), as well as Boothbay Harbor, Rockland, and Camden. Go a little further to outlet shopping in Freeport where the L.L. Bean signature store is open 365 days/year 24/7!

Great location/Rustic
The cabin is located in a fairly rural area. There are neighbors but they are not super close. Pets being allowed is nice for our family and we're thankful for that. We went swimming in ocean at high tide and took out the rowboat a few times. The dock is a very short walk through a field. Some very nice beaches located about an hour away. Theres also nice hiking and fresh water swimming up near Camden. Camden is a beautiful town to visit. The cabin is simple but nice. The shower, sinks, toilet all work. The small gas stove works fine. Plenty of windows to keep the air fresh. My only complaint was the blankets. They didnt appear to have been laundered. The sheets and pillow cases were clean but the blankets had a large amount of dander/dust in them. If you're allergic to cats are dogs I would recommend bringing your own blankets. My 2 boys and girlfriend reacted very badly to the blankets. Lots af sneezing and wheezing when they pulled the blankets over them. We spent an evening at the laundromat washing and drying the blankets. That corrected the issue and everyone slept well after that. I think the cleaning service rushes and isnt overly thorough. Lots of dust in the corners so to speak. The cleaning lady also tried to get us out of the house prior to the posted checkout time.

We were busy visiting goat farms and preservation farms. Really enjoyed the Farnsworth Museum.
Very rustic retreat. Tidal estuary a short walk through mown paths. No real insulation so if it is hot the cottage will be hot and if it is cold there are electric space heaters.

Natural beauty and serenity in a sweet old cottage
Sweet older cottage with appropriately creaking doors placed comfortably away from other buildings nearby with a gorgeous field of wildflowers leading down to the water front. About the only downside is that there is no fireplace or fire pit to sit outside on a cool night. But otherwise it's infinitely charming, reasonably well appointed. The main double bed was ok but the twins in the adjoining room were wrapped in crinkly plastic and bit uncomfortable. But everything we needed was there and the absence of cell and internet while difficult for the hopelessly wired, was a blessing.
