Sea Sparkle
Sunny Coastal Cottage with Artist Studio and Panoramic Ocean Views
Escape to the charming coastal village of Port Clyde, Maine, and enjoy this bright and welcoming two-bedroom cottage set along a winding harbor road at 73 Horse Point Road. With panoramic saltwater views from nearly every room, this home offers a relaxed coastal setting just a short walk from the village, while still feeling slightly removed and peaceful.
Sea Sparkle is a classic Maine cottage filled with character and history. Formerly the home of Gertrude Cook, the kitchen retains its original spatter-painted linoleum floor, where many pies were baked overlooking the cove below, where her son once operated a lobster buying wharf. The home carries a nostalgic charm while offering the comforts needed for a relaxing stay.
As you arrive, the setting immediately feels open and inviting, with sweeping water views, coastal light, and a large lawn that looks out toward the harbor. The property offers space to unwind, read, paint, or simply take in the activity of the working waterfront.
This cottage is located along Horse Point Road, a scenic coastal road where locals and visitors alike enjoy walking, biking, and taking in the views. While the home sits just across from the shoreline, there is a right-of-way and guardrail along the road, so the waterfront is not directly accessible from the property. The views, however, are expansive and unobstructed, offering a true connection to the ocean setting.
The nearby Cooks Cove property sits just to the right, creating a small cluster of coastal homes that share this beautiful stretch of shoreline.
Entering the home, you step into a warm and welcoming living space. The living room and kitchen connect easily, creating a comfortable, open atmosphere. The living room includes a wall-mounted TV with cable and a seating area that encourages conversation and relaxation after a day of exploring.
The kitchen maintains its vintage charm while providing the essentials for everyday use. It is a farm-style space that feels authentic to the home’s history, with everything needed to prepare meals while enjoying the surrounding views.
Also on the first floor is a cozy bedroom located just off the living room. This bedroom includes a full-size bed, desk, bureau, and closet, making it a comfortable and functional space.
The first-floor bathroom features a tiled shower and a traditional pull-chain toilet, reflecting the home’s historic character while remaining fully functional.
Upstairs, the attic has been thoughtfully converted into a primary queen bedroom with a private bathroom and an attached studio space overlooking the harbor. This light-filled studio is ideal for reading, writing, painting, or simply enjoying the ever-changing coastal views.
The home has been updated over time, and the stairs to the second floor are more typical in pitch compared to older capes, offering easier access between levels.
Outside, the property features a large lawn with Adirondack chairs and a fire pit, creating an ideal setting for relaxing at the end of the day. Guests often gather here for evening cocktails, lawn games, or simply to enjoy the coastal air and ocean views.
The lawn is well suited for activities such as bocce, ladder ball, bean bag toss, and other outdoor games provided at the home.
The location offers easy access to both the village and the surrounding coastline. A short walk brings you into the center of Port Clyde, while nearby roads and shoreline areas provide opportunities to explore the working harbor and coastal landscape.
This home is designed to be enjoyed year round. In the summer, the outdoor space and proximity to the village create an easy coastal lifestyle. In the fall, the changing light and quieter pace offer a more relaxed experience. In the colder months, the home becomes a cozy retreat, ideal for reading, writing, or simply slowing down.
Around the Fourth of July, you may see fireworks from various points around the harbor. These are typically set off by local residents and may appear in different directions across the water.
