Cabin #5 - "Mitigwa" Mitigwa is a Native American word meaning "Maker of Men". This adorable little 1 bedroom cabin at 280 sq ft is a favorite among couples or those looking to share an intimate getaway.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the early 1930's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and air conditioning wasn’t even thought of at that time. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.
All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.
This 1 bedroom cabin sleeps 2 people in a queen size bed. There is 1 electrical outlet next to the bed. Other electrical outlets are minimally located throughout the cabin. The cabin has a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 10’x6’ enclosed porch overlooking the lake. Perfect for spending a quiet evening with a loved one.
Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Rustic up north looking cabin with a nice kitchen and bathroom. Lake right out the back door. Great communication. Met us as we pulled in. Quaint group of cabins close to a lot of sites.
Cabin exactly as described. Owner met me quickly after arrival and gave me info about the cabin. Had a binder inside covering any question I might have. Very happy overall!
The perfect rustic cabin for our weekend stay. It had everything we needed including a full kitchen and WiFi. The owner Richie was also kind and accommodating.
Very easy communication and check in. The lake is beautiful. Rich greeted us as we arrived. Bathroom was great, shower was spacious with hot water, bed was comfortable.
Quiet area. Very affordable. Nice little getaway. We’ve stayed in this cabin twice now and plan to continue doing so every year. It’s not the “cleanest” cabin, but it’s also a cabin, so understand that there will be a little dirt and sand on the floors, but overall, bathroom and kitchen areas are exactly how you’d want them. Love the vibes.
Born and raised in Northern Michigan, I’ve worked with the special needs community for over 30 years. By recently purchasing a little 7 cabin lakefront resort, I was able to transition my career to incorporate my love for camping, outdoor activity, and local history in a way I can share with others. I offer vacation rentals of vintage rustic lakeside cabins that were established in 1929. I welcome guests who love the camping experience while venturing to the Mackinac area historic sites, adventurers who come to enjoy outdoor activities, or those who are simply here to relax and enjoy the area’s natural beauty.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with this property because it encompasses the style of vintage cabins from days gone by, back when times were simpler. The cabins offer the nostalgic feel of the camping experience I remember enjoying as a child.
