Wonderful ocean Front!

This was the nicest VRBO I’ve stayed at through many visits to the Big Island! It was very clean, nicely decorated, clear and concise directions about everything having to do with the place, the lanai set-up was perfect, and communication with the property manager was excellent! We so very much enjoyed drinking coffee on the lanai every morning, watching the surfers and the occasional whale. We loved our time at Kona Reef!

Kona Reef with incredible views from lanai

Reviewer Comments: We absolutely loved it because of the lanai overlooking an excellent surf spot. surfers and boogie boarders every morning and night with big waves. The interior decorating was unusual to say the least but we found it interesting and enjoyed ourselves very much. We had a little trouble with the tv but that is because we are somewhat clueless about controls, streaming etc.

Room with a view

Absolutely could not top the ocean view from the room. Sunsets were spectacular. Check in and out process was a breeze, property manager’s communication prior to and during my stay were excellent. Recommend this property to anyone interested in a comfortable, well equipped condo close to shopping and restaurants.

The balcony is very private, with a beautiful beach view. We left the screen doors open the whole time we were inside, to enjoy the ocean breeze and surf sounds. All the Kona beachfront restaurants and shops are in easy walking distance. The owners were very attentive and always responded quickly and positively to our inquiries.

D32 has a fabulous view- we spent most of the time either on the lanai. The sound of the surf was the most relaxing part. The kitchen was especially well stocked for cooking. I think all the 1-bedrooms in Kona Reef have a noise issue since the bedroom is in the back by the walkways. If the bedroom windows are open, you tend to hear a lot of noise in the mornings. Also has snorkel gear and beach toys.

Reviewer Comments: I have stayed in numerous condos and never staying in one so scantly supplied. Their kitchen has no basic supplied other than salt and pepper. Other units I have stayed in had seasonings, aluminum foil, a few baggies, coffee, sugar, etc, and this unit was bare of basic essentials. There seemed to also be a short in the kitchen light switch. Additionally, the dish washer smelled SO bad; we had to run it before we could even put in any dishes ... couldn't stand the smell long enough to load.

We love Kona Reef

This is our third stay in the Kona Reef complex. We love the A and D buildings because they are as oceanfront as you can get. The location is also the best for being able to walk into town. The unit is slightly outdated but had a good bed, nice lanai furniture and a nice desk if you need to work some. Most important, it was clean!The one item that could be better is storage. We like to unpack because we stay more than a week. It would have been nice to have a dresser for our stuff and a place for food. The small dresser in the closet was filled with extra linens. It was another great stay. Mahalo!

Does not meet expectations

The view from the lanai is amazing and what drew us to this rental.However, the building is 40 years old and unlike this one, most other units have been remodelled (we've stayed in others that were fine). We had booked 6 nights, but stayed only one and were refunded the remainder.The smell of cleaning agent and deodorizer is overpowering upon entering. The air conditioner has to run constantly to keep the main living area comfortable and the bedroom in back has no airflow whatsoever. It needs a separate AC unit. The pillows and cases provided for the sofabed were badly stained.The bathroom is original, like something out of a 1970's era motel. The unit needs a complete remodel in order to justify the price.

New condo on the big island of Hawaii.

We’ve been to this property several times over the years, as well as several others. Kona Reef stands out to me. Central location, close to pretty much anything you might want. I highly recommend it.

The bed sucks but we were in Hawaii so I would have slept on the floor. My husband is an electrician by trade and is already looking to the future and wanting to contribute to Hawaii and ask permission to come aboard. Thank you so much for allowing us to experience the island, we will never forget it and we hold so much respect in our heart to the Hawaiian people who call such a paradise home.
