On the show (Beachfront Bargain Hunt), it was called "The Crown Jewel"... but we call it "The Sandlot House"... Here's why:
The movie "The Sandlot" has long been a favorite of our family. Set in the summer of 1962, it tells the story of a group of friends who play baseball together, go to the pool (and fake drowning to hook up with the smoking hot lifeguard, Wendy Peffercorn), hang out in tree houses and just, generally, get in trouble. It's a nostalgic take on the friendships of our youth, all centered around baseball (the favorite pastime of our family). Every time I watch it, I long for those simpler, easier times depicted in the movie... when the only care in the world was how best to retrieve a baseball that went over a fence.
Likewise, that longing for a simpler, easier time is why we fell in love with Cape Charles. My wife and I instantly became enamored by the old-fashioned charm of the town. From the old school hardware store to the breakfast counter at the pharmacy to the beautiful old houses, it really reminded us of some of the iconic scenes depicted in "The Sandlot". We, literally, could envision Cape Charles being THE town that Benny "The Jet", Scotty "Smalls", "Ham" Porter, and the legendary, Michael "Squints" Palledorous once lived and raised havoc.
So, we kept coming back. Every summer we would look forward to spending time together as a family on the beach, getting ice cream at Brown Dog, riding bikes around town, eating pizza at DeadRise Pies and just generally, unplugging from our hectic Northern Virginia lifestyle. It was our respite and sanctuary from the chaos of it all.
We knew we eventually wanted to have our own place at Cape Charles and, one day, the perfect house became available. It was just steps to the beach, the downtown shops and Central Park. And, just as importantly, it was big enough for our family and guests. And, it is now our own escape and retreat... our very own... Sandlot.
So, the minute we laid eyes on her, we knew there was only one name she could be called: THE SANDLOT HOUSE.
We hope you enjoy it as much as our family does. And, we hope you build memories here that you'll cherish and carry with you forever.... for-EVER... FOREVVVVVER.
Now for the details: Originally built in 1922, The Sandlot House is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath four square style house that is centrally located on quiet Monroe Avenue... just steps to the beach, shops/restaurants and central park. Rental includes usage of Golf Cart (with separate signed waiver). Comfortably sleeps a family of up to 10: Bedroom #1 features a king bed (sleeps up to 2), Bedroom #2 includes a queen (sleeps up to 2), Bedroom #3 includes 2 sets of bunkbeds (to sleep 4), and Bedroom #4 features 2 twin beds (sleeps 2).
Completely renovated the kitchen, dining room and downstairs bathroom. Designed by sought-after firm "Peacock Cottage", the newly renovated kitchen features retro-cool "Big Chill" brand appliances, custom built cabinetry from Virginia Cabinet Works and improved work flow. It is absolutely GORGEOUS! Seriously, it looks like the cover of a Southern Living or Better Homes and Gardens.
A 2015 4 seater Club Car Precedent (Golf Cart) is available to our guests, included in price of rental. Must be a licensed driver to operate and separate waiver is required.
ALL linens (including bath towels/wash clothes) included. We use a professional linen service who swaps out freshly laundered linens before every new guest. Kitchen is fully stocked. Just pack your luggage and everything is pretty much turnkey after that!
We LOVE our dog, and know what a struggle it can be to find vacation rental houses that accommodate our canine family members... So, we've made The Sandlot House dog Friendly ($100 pet fee required which goes to the housekeeper).

About the host
Hosted by Scott Faircloth

We are a family of 6 that purchased The Sandlot House to build memories together as a family. We really like the idea of the house having some "life" in it when we aren't there so we are making it selectively available for rental. Our permanent residence is in Ashburn, VA.

What makes this property unique
Cape Charles is a golf cart friendly town and The Sandlot House comes with rights to use the golf cart (a $375 savings over renting in town). Relax on front porch or back deck, roast s'mores over the new firepit/backyard patio, walk (or take golf cart) to beach, visit shops, get ice cream at Brown Dog or enjoy the restaurants. Centrally located, everything is just a short walk or golf cart ride away. And, because we love dogs, The Sandlot House is dog-friendly.
