La Cabaña offers everything you need for the perfect vacation to the natural state.

Hi! We are Susan McKenzie and Jack Makemson and we moved permanently to Hot Springs Village from Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 2015, after building our home here in 2012. We've been married for 23 years and love living in the Village. Jack is retired, a native south Floridian, and Susan is a licensed pilot and works in the aviation industry. She is originally from the Bahamas. Our favorite pastime is tennis and hiking in the beautiful natural areas of Arkansas.

Why they chose this property

We purchased property here to build our new home because Hot Springs Village is truly unique. It is the largest gated community in the United States and has something for everyone. Much of the Village's 27,000 acres remain wooded and natural. Every kind of sport and activity can be found here, fishing and boating on our 11 lakes, swimming and sunning on Balboa beach, golf on our 9 courses, tennis at our 13 court tennis center, pickleball at our 14 court center, or hiking on our 30 mile trail system . We love the 4-season climate and the natural beauty of the state of Arkansas.

What makes this property unique

While we were in the process of planning and building our home, we came here often to stay at rentals. There were not many smaller apartments, suitable for just a couple, available for short term rental. So, we decided to build out our downstairs to exactly the type of place that we would have liked to stay - modern and clean, private entrance, no carpeting, a comfortable king size bed, a flat screen smart TV, cooking capability for small meals, apartment size refrigerator, large tiled bathroom, and a private patio with a grill and a great view. Since opening La Cabaña in June of 2015, it has been popular beyond our wildest dreams. We have made many new friends, some of whom have now bought homes here. If you are a golfer, La Cabaña is a 5 minute drive from the Ponce de Leon or Magellan clubhouses, 10 minutes from Grenada or Isabella, and less than 15 minutes from Desoto, Balboa, Coronado, or Cortez courses. We are less than a 5 minute drive from Lake Balboa beach and Marina, or a 20 minute walk there on a hiking trail. And, the historic city of Hot Springs, and Hot Springs National Park is only 20 minutes away from La Cabaña. We live above on the main floor, we are considerate and quiet, and are always available to respond to your needs or questions while you are our guests in La Cabaña.
