About this property
House with 150 feet private lakefront - quiet, rustic, homey, near Bretton Woods
Welcome to our family cabin on Burns Pond where we have built wonderful memories for many years. We would love to share this with other families to build their own memories of swimming in the lake, and paddling the canoe around the lake in the summer or skating and skiing in the winter.
Our cabin is old fashioned and homey. We have a spectacular view, a private dock, and 150 feet of private lake frontage with a canoe, rowboat, 3 kayaks and a supply of life jackets. Inside we have a fully equipped kitchen, lots of board games, books and Wifi. It is fully winterized so it can be enjoyed year round. Our intent is not to furnish a hotel experience but rather an old fashioned camp experience, updated with lots of comforts. We are not able to allow parties or events.
We are located on the northwestern side of the White Mountains. In Whitefield itself you can enjoy Sunday morning pancake breakfasts on the common or golf at the Mountain View Grand. In the area there are many activities including hiking (35 minutes to base of Mt Washington at the cog railroad, 35 minutes to Appalachia trail head, 60 minutes to Pinkham Notch), skiing (30 minutes to Cannon Mountain, 20 minutes to Bretton Woods), Santa’s Village (20 minutes), and local summer theatre (10 minutes to Weathervane Theater). You may also choose to shop in Littleton, featuring many varied shops including the Guinness book record holder for the World’s longest candy counter: Chutters.
On the water there is a dock with a swimming ladder to get in and out of the lake. Near the water there is another deck on land with a picnic table if you would like to eat by the lake. On the opposite side of the house there is a shaded porch equipped with a grill and a table to eat outside.
Our main floor has a living room area with large windows facing the lake, a dining table which seats 8, a kitchen, pantry and mudroom. Also on the main floor is a full bath with a washer and dryer. There is a main bedroom room with a queen size bed and a balcony overlooking the lake.
The top floor has 2 bedrooms and a 1/2 bath. One bedroom has 2 double beds. The other has 2 single beds. The rooms have privacy curtains, rather than doors. The walls are rough finished.
The walk out basement also has large windows overlooking the lake. The front half of the basement is partially finished with a sitting area. There are also a double bed and 2 single beds in the open area which are available for sleeping. There is also a 3/4 bath with a shower. There is a television for watching a DVD from the collection there. There is no cable and the TV does not pick up any local stations. The back half of the basement contains the utility section - oil tanks, furnaces and the like.
Verizon phone service has good coverage in the area. The service from other companies may vary.
The Wifi is satellite and usually able to stream videos although infrequently it may be spotty. It is not appropriate for gaming.
There is a circular staircase between the 3 levels. While it is not completely handicapped accessible the main floor is useable by people with limited mobility. The house itself requires someone to be able to manage one step. Once inside; the main bedroom, living area, kitchen and bathroom are all on one floor. The access to the bathroom can accommodate a traditional sized walker. The handicap access to the building itself is a driveway ramp which goes down to building but this ramp is not clear in winter. Winter access is by a set of stairs.
We do allow some breeds of dogs. Due to allergies and liability we cannot allow any other pets. Please review with the owner for more information.

We had a wonderful stay at Ruth's house on the pond! The house has an interesting history, lots of character, and a great view. It provided just what we needed as a getaway pad just 20 minutes from Bretton Woods. Would stay again for sure!

We had a lovely stay at this property! Ruth is welcoming, and accommodating.
The place is relaxing and homey, and we even got homemade cookies! The lake is clean, the kids loved swimming off the dock and kayaking. A lovely time was had by all!
The house was perfect for our vacation. The dock was used every day and the kayaks and row boat too! Everything in the kitchen you would need if you are a cook. Quiet area and perfect for a relaxing week.
The house was cozy with all of the comforts of home. The lake view from the living room and balcony were amazing. There was plenty of room for the entire family around the table for meals and games. The kids loved the canoe and kayaks (life jackets of all sizes were available). It was a great time with family and thank you to Ruth for being such a GREAT hostess!

I am glad you had a good time. Thank you for leaving the house in great, clean condition. You have been wonderful guests. Please come back again. I love having families at our family home. Ruth
Family with 2 dogs. Loved the all room, the little terrace 1/2 to the lake. Teens were delighted with their basement space. Ruth was there to greet us with quick wonderful info. Canoed, kayaked. Went on adventures. Loved all Ruth’s little touches. And finished a puzzle.
My wife and I together with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law spent 3 lovely weeks here this fall. With just a few exceptions it was a great place for what we were looking for. We enjoyed stunning autumn foliage overlooking beautiful Bynes Lake. We Hiked, canoed, kayaked, took in the sights, ate in, ate out, caught a show, visited family, etc. etc.
A few issues kept us from giving a 5 star...more like 4 1/2 stars. No network tv, so no football, the place is rather cluttered....I counted 75+ coffee mugs! Our in-laws weren't thrilled with staying downstairs but they were ok with it.
Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed ourselves!!
This property is just as listed with tons of extras. House allows for private areas to rest/sleep as well as comfortable gathering spots for lots of laughter. The pond is clean and beautiful and the dock was our favorite (and most used) hang out location of the week. The kayaks were available with tons of life jackets for all ages/sizes. Relaxing by the firepit while overlooking the pond as the sun sets and moon emerges was one of my favorite moments.
We look forward to another week at this property in the future.
Our family had a wonderful time on Burn's Lake. The house has direct access to the lake- it's own dock/ canoes/ kayak/ life jackets! The house is fully equipped for a family vacation and the kitchen is ready to handle cooking for all. Our hostess Ruth went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect. The lake and mountain views from the house are perfect. And then there are the homemade cookies...
This home is truly a gem. The location on the lake with a mountain view is amazing. It is the perfect place to get away from it all and spend quality time with your family. Ruth is the most amazing host I have ever had with a Vrbo property. She was there to greet us at check in and was always very responsive with communication. She left us incredible cookies too! We would love to stay again!
What a fabulous week we had here. The accommodations were excellent. It was stocked with everything you could ever need. Only a few miles from town if you did need something. It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you Ruth and sharing this wonderful spot with us. The lake was just so nice to take a break from the ongoing heat wave. It brought back so many memories having grown up in this area. Thank you again Ruth!!!
Our family of 7 and 2 dogs had a great stay here. The house was exactly as described and very clean. The lake was beautiful and great for swimming, kayaking and fishing. A great place to visit if your looking to get away. Awesome firepit too!!
We had a great stay and can't wait to go back again. The house truly is amazing and has everything you need. Ruth is so kind and available to answer any questions.
This house was absolutely awesome plenty of room close to ski locations ice fishing ice skating an overall great location. The owner is extremely welcoming and helpful can’t wait to go back there in the summer and next winter.
Charming, comfortable house with amazing view. Felt bigger than it looks in the pictures. Too many wonderful, homey touches to mention. We felt like we were family friends who were lucky enough to use the house - that is how homey it felt. Had everything you could possibly need in kitchen, linens, booting equipment. This is a treasure and the owner was just as wonderful. We enjoyed paddling with loons and beavers. The lake was quiet - no loud motorboats. Very convenient location. Only slight disappointment was some road noise and lumber processing noises we could hear from across the lake - but that is the tradeoff for not driving way off into the north country.
We loved our stay, and our hostess as well. She was there to greet us when we arrived, and even texted us to make sure things were OK when she learned of a short-lived power outage that affected the cottage. We really liked her. The house itself is directly on the water with a dock. It is a rambling structure with lots of places to sit and read, nicely furnished, and a lot of personality and charm. We hope to return next summer - everyone liked it so much.
the house is very comfortable and located right on the pond so swimming and boating was very easy. the house is nicely furnished with everything you need for a great summer stay.
This is our first time back to Burn's Pond in 15 years, and it was just as wonderful as we remembered it. Ruth's home is equipped with everything you could possible need to enjoy your vacation. All you need to do is pack you clothes! The home was clean and most importantly, warm and inviting. There are 3 kayaks that we used regularly. You can swim off the dock at the house or you can swim just a short walk down at the beach. The homemade cookies were the perfect welcoming treat. And the dog treats were a nice surprise for the dog too! We can't wait to come back!

I feel strong ties to Whitefield. My great-grandparents moved to this area in the 1800's. My grandmother and father were born here in the village of Whitefield. Our family has wonderful memories of tenting, swimming, and skating on Burns Pond. Through the years my Dad gradually built the existing building. We have loved it and hope to share this with more generations of families.
Why they chose this property
Perfect for family gatherings with a lot of activities for children.
What makes this property unique
Quiet location on a quiet lake with lots to explore. Close to attractions of the White Mountains.
