Every time we walk into this house we take a deep breath. It is so comfortable, so beautiful, so full of light. It has a history and feels like family. We love it. The views, the deck, the fenced yard for the dogs. We will come back over and over again. Thanks to the family for opening their home to us.
This is our second time staying here. The house is so comfortable with beautiful ocean views. A big kitchen that is well stocked with every dish/utensils any cook needs. A super comfortable primary bed is a welcome at the end of a fun day on the Maine coast. The living/dining areas are comfortable. We enjoy all the books and family mementos/history that adorn the house. The house is located in a quiet, friendly neighborhood with local country roads to take long walks. We truly loved staying here!
Our stay was very comfortable. The home was clean and the neighborhood quiet. The kitchen was well equipped. We particularly enjoyed our walks on the beach with our English Setter.
Great location with beautiful views of Frenchman's Bay. House was located about 100ft from the bay with it's own private beach. The home was fully equipped with all the necessary items you need. Especially enjoyed the large master bedroom with adjoining bathroom after a long days outing. Would definitely visit again!
This was a fantastic trip! The home is lovely, full of character, comfortable, and clean. The beach is amazing. We enjoyed exploring Acadia and other beautiful places in the area, but our family was equally excited to return to the house and beach so we could soak in the the sunsets, loon calls, seals eating dinner, sea glass finds, fireflies, and many other charms (our youngest loved the doll house upstairs!) Our whole family had a great week. Thank you!
This is an older home with a great sense of being in the family for generations, and plenty of places to relax, both inside and out. Some would feel it could use updating but it is comfortably clean and the private beach was the perfect location for me to paint. The surrounding area is great for walking, bicycling and hiking. We also enjoyed being able to just sit on the deck watching the boats, fishermen and wildlife. It is very quiet and private, but just a short car ride (40 minutes) to Bar Harbor and Acadia Park. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back.
Loved how cozy the property was, but also extremely private and an amazing waterfront spot. As a bonus the neighbors on the street were friendly. Also Carol was very quick to back to us.
As I grew up on the ‘Point’ every summer and the whole summer, I felt as though I had come home. The view is a WOW. The huge beach is awesome. The amenities were great. The deck was huge and perfect for just relaxing to listen and see what was happening water and lobster boat wise. The gulls did their yakking, the breeze did its sending the sea and pine scent. It was fun to see the cruise ships come in, anchor, across the bay over at Bar Harbor…and be happy not to be on one! The caretaker, Michelle was fabulous. It was fun to just walk down the road to my sister and cousin. We had a totally relaxing time at Hancock and your house.!
Thank you thank you!😊
Peaceful and relaxing property. The views are just stunning and we spent much of our time admiring them. Easy drive to parks, hiking and neighboring towns to visit. Thank you to the Crosby family for making this home available to us. Rod and Gina Lister
Excellent location with beautiful ocean views to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Lovely Maine beach. Private (October stay). Convenient access to Bar Harbor, Schoodic, and even Quoddy Light. Enjoyed hearing waves at night when going to bed through open window
A real family place. We felt right at home. Wonderful to have a private beach. This is what I wanted; a typical older home on the coast of Maine and it did not disappoint. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Acadia but Hancock Point is quiet and no crowds. Great place for walkers and runners.
Great place with an amazing view right on the water
We loved our stay at the Crosby home. It was a perfect fit for our family to once again touch base with our New England roots. It was a bit like stepping back to a more charming time - no sterile white walls here. The huge kitchen was so much fun to cook in and the living room and sunroom were great gathering spaces. But best of all was the deck and view from nearly every window looking out onto Frenchmen’s Bay. We thank the Crosby family for sharing this wonderful treasure. We have already booked our return.
Spacious and comfortable for multi generational family. Away from large crowds, but good distance to the national park, both Mt. Desert Island and Schoodic Pt. Gorgeous view of the bay and splendid sunsets. We loved our stay and made great memories.
This is a repeat stay for us- and we will be back
Comfortable, very family friendly house
Definitely know we are on the coast from the beautiful views and sounds of the waves
Beach easily accessible
Has everything we need -
it was a nice experience for the first time in Maine right on the beach short drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia Park. I enjoyed the hikes in Acadia Park and going out to the beach and watching the ocean the lobsters were good but they don't stand a chance.
We stayed for a week and had beautiful weather for the most part which meant we were able to enjoy the beach, kayaking and Acadia National Park everyday! Beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of room for everyone. Kitchen was very well equipped, which made it easy to cook meals. Great property, fantastic location!
Spacious Waterfront Stay for 2 Families Vacationing Together!
Spacious home right on the water! Plenty of bedrooms and baths (2 full + 2 half-baths) for two families to vacation together without tripping over each other! Nice kitchen, well-equipped with quality utensils & cookware. Two deck levels, with a nice mix for sun worshippers and those who prefer shade! Great referral by Carol to a canoe-rental guy who dropped off and picked up right from the driveway. The private beach was fantastic and is one of the largest of such in the area (we canoed up and down the shore and checked out the others' - most are not even in the same league!) Beds were very comfortable - again, high-quality! Washer/dryer a huge plus for families traveling with kids! Close to Acadia National Park, good lobster places, and all sorts of other activities. Screened-in porch was a nice place for the adults to play cards after the kids were all in bed. We had some initial confusion with getting the satellite TV to work for us, but after a quick text or two, we were helped out beautifully! Would we go back?? You bet!!!!!
Another beautiful week in Hancock point on the water . Trips to Acadia and Bar Harbor were easy. There was more than enough space for our family of 5 to be together or apart. A beautiful spacious master overlooking the water 4 upstairs bedrooms with 2 additional bathrooms ensured that 3 teenagers were able to have their own space to relax, study and enjoy time alone when needed.

This home was definitely adequate for 8 people. Enough bathrooms also. We thought the home had old world charm and we were very comfortable there. Nice view and cottage frontage to look for shells, sea glass, etc. Large kitchen to work in and we enjoyed the screened room off deck for playing cards/games. Everything we needed to enjoy our week was there. Not a modern house but a comfortable house. We appreciated the fact that it was very private and quiet.

The Crosby Family home has been in the family since grandfather professor Lamar Crosby purchased it in the 1920's as a summer home for his family during university breaks. His children Lamar and Oliver spent every summer sailing and hiking and eventually brought their own families to share the summer traditions.
Oliver retired as US Ambassador in 1980 and with his wife Eleanor fully insulated the property as their retirement home. Eleanor made many additions to the original home to meet the needs of the family. Their children Michael, Jane and Hunter spent every summer in HP (Hancock Point) and consider it their home base as the family lived all over the world while Oliver was with the US State Department.
With the passing of Oliver at 94.5 years in 2014 his children and their families are protecting the property for the next generation but many live far away and can't spend entire summers at the family home. Renting it helps assure that we can keep it for many more generations. We hope you will enjoy it too. The house is open seasonally June through October. Minimum rental is one week.
Why they chose this property
The view from the deck and large pitcher window overlooking the bay are spectacular in any season. My father in law, Oliver, would say, "We suffer...but not too much!" No matter what the weather the well insulated home is a pleasure at anytime of the year. The fall foliage is just as exciting as the summer water fun.
What makes this property unique
The view across the bay of the mountains of Mt Desert island is outstanding in any season.
