About the host
Hosted by Susan Luke
The Crosby Family home has been in the family since grandfather professor Lamar Crosby purchased it in the 1920's as a summer home for his family during university breaks. His children Lamar and Oliver spent every summer sailing and hiking and eventually brought their own families to share the summer traditions.
Oliver retired as US Ambassador in 1980 and with his wife Eleanor fully insulated the property as their retirement home. Eleanor made many additions to the original home to meet the needs of the family. Their children Michael, Jane and Hunter spent every summer in HP (Hancock Point) and consider it their home base as the family lived all over the world while Oliver was with the US State Department.
With the passing of Oliver at 94.5 years in 2014 his children and their families are protecting the property for the next generation but many live far away and can't spend entire summers at the family home. Renting it helps assure that we can keep it for many more generations. We hope you will enjoy it too.
The house is open seasonally June through October. Minimum rental is one week.

Why they chose this property
The view from the deck and large pitcher window overlooking the bay are spectacular in any season. My father in law, Oliver, would say, "We suffer...but not too much!"
No matter what the weather the well insulated home is a pleasure at anytime of the year. The fall foliage is just as exciting as the summer water fun.

What makes this property unique
The view across the bay of the mountains of Mt Desert island is outstanding in any season.
