About this property

Villa with Private Pool and Far Reaching Valley Views

Montauroux is the first of the Esterel Mountain range villages. The village centre is nearby and locally there numerous good walks. There are panoramic views of the Esteral Valley from the house and pool terrace. Cannes, Nice and St. Tropez are all within easy reach as is the Gorge du Verdon. Championship golf at the nearby Terre Blanche Hotel. Water sports, pedaloes and swimming in Lac St Cassien.

Note for 2024: we have noticed in May this year that a corner of one of the lower terraces has sunk a little. We will be repairing this in October 2024. The terrace is where the pool is , but the pool is unaffected. Please bear this in mind when booking.

The villa was good and had everything we needed. The views from the verandah, terrace and pool area were outstanding. It was a five minute walk to a nice town with a bakery and restaurants. We were there on Bastille day and there was a brass band, fireworks, followed by a disco in the square.

A very well presented and convenient Villa.

A very well presented and convenient Villa to attractions by the Coast, or in the opposite direction to the Gorges. The Swimming Pool is very inviting, and the characterful small village centre of Montauroux is a short walk away.

It was great to have you stay and we’re glad that you had a great time . We do our best to make sure that guests are aware that the property is a typical Provençal property. It is rustic and some guests may confuse this as needing modernisation. Maintenance takes place every year but in keeping with the character of the property and the region of Provence. We are sorry if you were not aware of this before booking. Best wishes

Stunning view and village feel

Loved our stay, walking distance café and shops. Bigger supermarket only a few minutes away. Stunning view. The property has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Only one negative (but nothing to do with the villa): we had some unwanted guests: mosquitoes. So come with repellent Overall, lovely villa, lovely stay

Clean, Perfect location, and a lovely heated pool!

Very satisfied with our one week stay in Montauroux! Clean, Perfect location, and a lovely heated pool! Good Internet Wi-Fi, TV with Nexflix, and plenty of hot water for showers! Local village was close, good Bakery and local supermarked is good, and cinama only minutes walk east! Pool guy cleaned pool twice in a week, and fixed heating when it shortly was out of order. We would love to come here again, and will recommend it to anyone! Hous

Terrific holiday, lovely village!

We had a terrific holiday in Villa Elleysi, with the location being the highlight. The easy walk to the lovely village of Montauroux meant we regularly went just to get a baguette from the friendly boulangerie, or an apero in the Bar de Boulistes! The views from the house are lovely, particularly from the shaded terrace just outside the living room/dining room area. We sat there a lot peacefully gazing at the Esterel. Other highlights? The pool!!! With 35 degree heat being the norm during our two weeks, it was definitely appreciated! Overall this was one of the most relaxing holidays we've had,, and we'll definitely be back next year!

Perfect Villa Holiday

We had an absolutely magical holiday in this wonderful Villa! It is so comfy and homely, very spacious and well equipped (we appreciated the coffee machine!). The pool is perfect, I did lots of research on Villas in the area and this was definitely the biggest and best pool. Loads of outside space too and eating everyday on the balcony with the amazing views was something I will never forget. We went the first week in September and had it heated which was a huge bonus. Montauroux is a lovely little village, friendly and authentic and the Villa is well placed for exploring the local area. Our son (10 years) said this was the best holiday he'd ever had and I agree! Thank so much, we hope to return!

Response from VrboOwner on 20 March 2020
We are sorry that our holiday house was not to your liking. The kitchen is equipped with a cooker/oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, 2 different type of coffee machine and has a variety of cooking utensils. It is a holiday house and so we do not have specialist items such as food mixers, blenders or chopping machines. There is a washing machine and a tumble drier in the summer shower room on the level below. You are correct that there is limited space to store clothes in the bedrooms and we have increased the storage space. This has not been a particular problem over the last 10 years but we accept that some guests may have a need for more storage space. The website does make it very clear in several sections that the property is on 3 levels and that each level is accessed by steps. The village and also the house are on the top of a mountain. The steps to the second terrace are by the side of the house. We have checked the tap in the sink in the second kitchen below and can report that there is water there. This is a summer kitchen and hence there is only cold water in this sink. Regards Isa

Utterly stunning! A tranquil idyll in the heart of a welcoming village.

We had a wonderful holiday in Maison Elleysi, so much so that we didn't want to come home!! Prior to visiting, we had done a little research online and knew that a car would be a must - very easy; booked online, collected at the airport, totally hassle free. Montauroux is an easy, 40 min run from Nice airport. On arrival in Montauroux, the village was alive with both locals and holiday makers soaking up the afternoon sun - boules in the square is a very popular pastime! Maison Elleysi is very easy to find and has absolutely ample parking. The villa itself is rustic, charming and embraces Provencal style wonderfully. In the lounge, there is a huge open fire that would be beautifully inviting for a stay in the colder months. One of our favourite features is the delightful balcony/terrace. There are bistro tables here, large feature glass doors and a side door leading to a bedroom. We spent most evenings here enjoying the view. The three bedrooms are ample; beds comfy and shutters continue the rustic charm. Yes, it was warm at night... but it was absolutely scorching during the day; fans circulated the air well. The kitchen is delightful - again with a rustic feel. Ample facilities within and also tea, coffee and basic supplies such as condiments. Leaving via the front door takes you to a most wonderful terrace complete with outdoor sofas, several parasols and a large gazebo. Also on the terrace is the summer kitchen complete with bbq and gas hot plate - absolutely perfect for outdoor dining, which we did lots! There's also a shower room to this floor which was great! Down one final set of stairs and you're greeted by a beautiful swimming pool. The views from here are outstanding and the pool itself is perfect. Plenty of sun loungers, parasols and a shaded pergola make for many a perfect poolside day. During our visit, we hoped to visit several places... but it was so hot and we were so smitten with Montauroux that we remained there! The village itself is unbelievably welcoming. On our first day, we visited Bar Du Clos in the square. They do carry out wine and beer and the food is delicious. We loved the Boulangerie - the baker is hilarious! We had a french lesson and ended up purchasing most of the shop - he's great!! The mini market remains closed - Drop town into the valley (5 mins by car) and there's a huge Leclerc, Aldi, restaurants etc. We absolutely cannot wait to return to Maison Elleysi. It's a wonderful, charming retreat.

Dear J and G Thank you for your comments and feedback. It seems that you immersed yourselves into local French life and enjoyed the atmosphere of Montauroux in the summer. It seems that our village convenience shop may closed until further notice. However, we still have the two bakeries, the butcher, and the pharmacy amongst the various other local shops and bars/restaurants. Congratulations on improving your French language at the bakery ! Hope to see you again next year. Isa

The villa was as appeared on the website, a charming, rustic accommodation.

We enjoyed the private, secluded pool area which was great for sunbathing and swimming. Spectacular views! The villa was well equipped both inside and out. However, we did feel some areas of the property were lacking in cleanliness, particularly the floors. Both the toilet and hall lights were not working and there was no contact for emergency repairs. Luckily Andy, the pool man, arrived on our third day and undertook these tasks. He also helped us to book local taxi journeys for our stay as we did not hire a vehicle (the website did not deem this a necessity). We were also not made aware that the local supermarket had closed in July and the closest to the villa was not within walking distance but located at the bottom of the valley on a busy main road. With this in mind we were surprised that a small welcome pack of essentials was not made available on our arrival. Having said the above, we thoroughlyly enjoyed our week stay in the delightful village of Montauroux. We would love to return to Maison Elleysi one day.
Response from VrboOwner on 20 March 2020
Hello Alison. Thank you for your comments. I have passed them onto the cleaners. Andy is not only the pool man ... he is also our maintenance man ! Together with his other half Ann Marie they can fix most things as long as they are made aware. Their number is in the information which is sent to guests prior to arrival. I'm sorry about the village convenience shop not being open. It seems that the owner closed in the summer which I wasn't aware of. Public transport to the Esterel mountain villages is very limited and hence car hire is advisable and essential if you want to visit anywhere outside the village. Car hire is recommended on the website but we shall amend that to necessary. Hope to see you again. Isa PS We have just returned from Montauroux (November 2017) and can report that the village shop is open again ( the owner was sick ... this can happen!). The village butcher has closed but the village shop sells meat. The other shops, including the pharmacy, are still open as are the two restaurants and the two bars.

Lovely views, amazing pool, just a little under loved and not very clean.

Montauroux is a beautiful village, stunning views of the valley and beyond. we will be back, but not to stay at 49 Rue St Brigitte. The villa lacked some love, it is in need of a good clean and some TLC. The access to the pool is odd and not hugely convenient. the pool itself was warm and awesome and very well maintained. this was the highlight of the villa. on previous holidays we are welcomed with a small hamper of essentials, bread, milk, a bottle of Rose etc. no such luck here, totally empty of anything. The nights were really hot with only poor working electric fans to keep us cool, they didn't have the desired effect. apart from that, stunning!
Stayed 14 nights in Jul 2017
Response from VrboOwner on 20 March 2020
Dear David. We're glad that you liked Montauroux. We rarely receive adverse reports on the cleaning and hence we are disappointed. We also rarely receive feedback from our cleaners but on this occasion they felt that they had to report back. Following your stay they spent 6 hours cleaning Nutella chocolate spread from the walls, cheese ingrained into the floors and various other problems. Some choice French vocabulary was used! We also had to fix the downstairs front door which had been pulled off its hinges. It was obviously very tricky getting everything ready for the next guests. Other than that it was OK. Maison Elleysi is a typical Provencal property which is rustic and we certainly accept that it's not to everyone's liking. However, most guests like the character old beams, the heavy oak tables and chairs etc. Other items such as the large sofas and TV are brand new. The website does make it clear that we only have fans. We are sorry that you felt it was too hot. The house dates back many years when there were no pools in the village. Hence the access to the pool on the lower terrace ( the village and house are on the side of a mountain) is round the side of the house. We accept that it takes a minute to get down to the pool but most people seem to be ok with this. We are looking at possibly installing additional steps down to the lower terrace in the future. We look forward to having you back in Montauroux and hopefully you will find somewhere more to your taste. It is a lovely village ! Regards. Isa

Great time

Five of us (three generations) had a wonderful week at the villa. The weather was glorious all week and we had a great time, spending one or two days entirely 'at home' eating, drinking and swimming and other days making short trips to nearby perched towns and the nearby lake. Fresh bread was a five minute walk away in the mornings and although the supermarket in Montauroux had shut down (permanently or temporarily, no-one was sure), the large supermarket in the valley below was handy and bars and restaurants in the village itself provided evening entertainment. The mosquitoes weren't an issue during the day - it just pays to be extra vigilant before retiring for the night and to come prepared with insect repellent and 'after bite' pens for the one or two that get through the various barriers!

Great location, great pool

Enjoyed 10 very relaxing days in Montauroux. Location of the house is ideal to wander into the square for croissants in the morning and a drink in the evening. There is a small market on Tuesday morning. The house was very well equipped. The pool and pool area were excellent. We had the pool heated which was great for the early season. A couple of feedback items; - more than a single towel per person needed for a holiday!. - the property could also have been cleaner...we found the floors very dusty... we had a crawling baby who had black legs and hands after the first hour and so we spent the first morning of our holiday hoovering and mopping!
Response from VrboOwner on 20 March 2020
Hi Adrienne, glad that you enjoyed your stay. There is normally a large and a small towel provided for each guest. We'll look into what happened during your stay. We have changed our cleaners recently and we have passed on your comments to them. Hope to see you again.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Maison Elleysi and Montauroux in the summer of 2001 whilst on holiday and spent years slowly modifying it to bring it into the 21st century but without destroying the rustic Provencal charm which is typical of the the houses in these mountain villages. It's not perfect ; the stone walls may not be straight, the steps may not be even but seeing these little imperfections as we arrive each year marks the start of a week or two of lazy hot summer days with our daughters by the pool gazing out over the valley and catching up with life .... French style !
