About this property
Gite With Swimming Pool & Tennis Court. Free Wi-Fi. Perfect for families
Located on a hill with uninterrupted views, L'Ancien Chai is perfect for families who want a rural setting without being remote. Also great for family and friends gatherings as we have plenty of space. L'Ancien Chai is part of a converted farm. We enjoy a south facing patio with amazing evening sunsets to enjoy with a glass of wine. Bright and open plan, the ground floor living space comprises dining area, kitchen and lounge with log fire burner. We have free wifi with really good download strength. There are lovely views from every bedroom window, especially from the upstairs bedrooms which can see for miles. There is good wheelchair disabled access on the ground floor. There is a 10cm step on ground floor from the kitchen area to the rest of the house but we can provide a ramp for a wheelchair, please let us know if you need this. We have a recently installed walk-in shower too on ground floor with hand support rail to assist mobility.
The fantastic views and sunsets are great for painters and photographers. BBQ outdoors. Surrounded by corn and sunflower fields. Our friendly owner-occupier site shares a large 4 x 14m pool and tennis court with 6 other homes. The pool was substantially upgraded and relined in 2018 offering much more easy access for children, disabled and elderly. The pool has a security fence (legal requirement in France) that makes it safe for little children running about the gardens as they won't be able to stray in to the pool area.
Indoors we have spacious accommodation with log burning fire. The atmosphere is light and airy with an open-plan feel. There is a large new SMART satellite TV with Netflix, UK channels. DVD/video/CD collection. DVD/blu-ray player. Excellent free wifi with strong signal. Games, jigsaws, boules, tennis rackets. 4 adults bicycles and one child.
The house (or gite) L'Ancien Chai is situated on the edge of a small group of privately owned properties. The place was once a farm with L'Ancien Chai having magnificent views to the south, west and east. Our house is very private from the others and you will feel you have the place to yourselves.
There is a securely-fenced, large shared pool (14 metres x 4 metres) in the extensive grounds. The swimming pool is open from the late May to late October. There is also a full sized tennis court and we provide tennis rackets.
Parking is available adjacent to the house. Walking access from the car park, via garden and patio into the house is all flat and suitable for wheelchairs. There is a 10cm internal step between the kitchen and rest of the living area and we can provide a ramp for wheelchair access.
This is a non-smoking residence. Sorry, no pets.
L'Ancien Chai is 15 minutes stroll from the village of Lusignac where there is a lively restaurant bar serving meals and even Guinness with a pool table for the chaps or young ones while you enjoy a glass of wine. Every Friday there is the popular "Le Fish et Chips" evening al fresco with live music in summer.
Shops can be found in Verteillac 6km away. There is a fantastic brocante/antiques market here very month, first Sunday. The market town of Riberac with several supermarkets (Leclerc, Intermarche, Lidl, Aldi, and Netto) is 11 km away. Riberac has a weekly outdoor market on Friday morning which is recommended. Bergerac, with its airport is an hour's drive to the south, with Periguex 34 km to the east. Bordeaux and the wine regions are to the west.
L'Ancien Chai, is set in the countryside of Perigord Vert in Dordogne. It is 15 minutes walk from the small village of Lusignac which has a bar and restaurant. Bouteilles St Sebastian is also in walking distance with another rustic quirky small bar. It lies in the valley below the house. Verteillac is 6 km, with shops, bars, bank, post office, bakers, hairdresser, newsagent, doctor and pharmacist. Riberac, 11km away, is a bustling town with all the ameneties and a large open-air market every Friday morning - not to be missed. The Dronne river offers fishing, canoeing and boating. Further afield is Bordeaux (120km), Bergerac (70km) and Angouleme (50km). Bergerac and Bordeaux have airports with good connections to UK. The pre-historic caves of Grottes de Villars lie to the east. Nearby historic and popular places to visit include Brantôme, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and Bourdeilles. Brantome is 20km away.
Or simply stay local. L'Anchien Chai will delight those interested in painting, photography, walking, cycling and reading, or relaxing in the sun, enjoying the pool, playing tennis and recharging the batteries.
Feedback from previous visitor, James Thomas "One of the reasons for choosing Le Plat was for the spectacular views along with a pool close enough to the house that the kids could jump in and out all day long. Being a shared pool never concerned us as it was a great opportunity for our kids to mix with other children on the complex. Within 5 minutes of arriving they had made friends with a couple of children similar in age, giving Mum and Dad some much needed “us time!” Le Plat is one of those places that if you want your privacy, there is no better place, however the other residents could not have made us more welcome. Nothing is a problem and collectively they had a wealth of local knowledge. To our surprise, the pool was only ever used by ours and another families kids. There is plenty of time during the day for people to enjoy a long relaxing swim without over excited children getting in the way. Access to the shared tennis court was very straightforward. Most of the time it was empty with the occasional game taking place away from the heat of the day. If its exclusivity you’re after then L'Ancien Chai has it in abundance, you’d never know it was shared by other families, who for the record are the friendliest bunch you’d ever want to meet!"

This was our third stay at this property and the owner has made improvements over time, in particular the installation of wifi, which really makes this a tip top holiday villa. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in the Dordogne. The facilities are great - four double bedrooms - and the views are to die for. Fantastic spot, lovely large swimming pool, tennis court and fun river canoeing only a few miles away. Highly recommended.

The perfect place for 3 generations to holiday
The house is well away from villages but not at all remote. It is exceptionally well equipped and satisfied the needs of a family group with an age range of 7 to 70 without a hitch. Our stay was during the heatwave of August so the large pool was the chief attraction and pool sharing was never a problem.. Tennis, cycling and even long walks were all available but the heat kept them off our agenda. We found markets, shops and river swimming all within easy driving distance. The brief and direction given before arrival were first class and there was plenty of further material in the house.
This is a remarkably peaceful area with very light traffic and none of the hassle that is found astride the Dordogne a few miles to the South. The hilltop site of L'Ancien Chai means that a light breeze moderates the hottest of days and there are amazing views in every direction.
We enjoyed an excellent stay and thoroughly recommend it to others

Thank you for such an constructive and positive review. Before we owned our house in France we came here ourselves as clients and then jumped at the chance to buy as we enjoyed it so much. We hope we can see how it should be for our visitors as we can see it through their eyes.

Thank you Celine for a kind review. I am so glad you had a nice time. I realise that for some of my guests that the weather in Dordogne has been unseasonably mixed with rain which is rare this time of year, so it is good news that you had a lot of good weather. We are very blessed to have the view we have from our patio and my special treat is to sit and watch the sunsets. Bliss. Please come back. We have very much enjoyed having our French guests this year.
House is very spacious and in good condition. The shared pool was a good way to cool down during the hot days.
Will provided everything we needed and was very helpful.
We can absolutely recommend this place for family holidays.
The house was lovely and having a pool and tennis court was great fun for the children. The views over the countryside were breathtaking. The pool was very welcome as temperatures were up to 42 degrees! The children enjoyed the space to play although it was too hot to do too much . Very close to lots of small towns to visit.

Wonderful home with pool and tennis court
A truly lovely home to stay in. We were a group of two adults and five children and it suited us down to the ground. The pool was literally metres from the house with the tennis court a little further. We had the pool to ourselves 99% of the time as the other home owners on the site were either not there or spent little time in it. The home itself is well proportioned with plenty of space. The downstairs has an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with two bedrooms (one double and one twin), bathroom and the laundry room off. The bedrooms have plenty of room with the double having a large wardrobe and the twin a large chest of drawers. The floor is all tiled downstairs and the upstairs has wooden floors. Upstairs there is a lovely galleried landing which overlooks the dining area and off this is another bathroom and two bedrooms (one double, one twin again). Will has tried to think of everything you might need. The kitchen is very well equipped, plenty of utensils, plates, cups etc. There are plenty of tennis rackets and balls plus games, bikes, DVDs, books and information leaflets. The wifi is good, and withstood all of us using it at the same time pretty well. We took our Firestick to watch Netflix on as suggested by Will but there is also English Freeview channels through the Sky box. The house is on a hill which gave us some very welcome breeze when it was too hot but also gave us some fantastic views. It also dried the clothes I hung on the most picturesque washing line just behind the swimming pool very quickly! Although Will was not there in person he kept in touch via email to make sure everything was OK which was appreciated, answering any questions or queries. We met some of the other home owners who were all very helpful and friendly. All in all a lovely place to stay and I highly recommend it and Will.

Thank you Sally. I am so pleased you enjoyed our house. Before I owned it, I was a paying guest too and came several times before the opportunity popped up to buy, so I very much felt I knew what guests would need. But things change all the time, as do expectations. So next year we are planning to upgrade the showers and explore an improved solution with Netflix. Will

Thank you Hans. Good point about the UK TV channels. I will see how non-UK channels can be accessed on my TV. I am pretty sure they can.
Another option if you have one is to bring an Amazon Firestick and then access Netflix via the wifi connection.

September 2016 Holiday
Spend a lovely week here in early September. The house is delightful, has everything you need – it’s comfortable, tastefully furnished and very well equipped. The views are stunning and we loved the sunsets from the patio. It was particularly hot when we were there and so we used the pool most days in the late afternoon and were always the only occupants. The house is part of a small complex and everyone seemed very friendly, although it certainly wasn’t busy or crowded.
Hard to think of any detractions – little thing - people walking around upstairs is noisy for the rooms underneath but I guess that’s only a problem if you’re a group of people who go to bed and get up at different times .
The area is lovely and we loved the bar in the village early evening for drinks. We liked the little market at Aubetterre sur Dronne on Sundays and the beach on the river there. We also liked the market at Riberac. Brantome and Perigueux both worth a visit.
We hope to go back.

An immediate relaxing ambience
As soon as you arrive at this house you feel relaxed. It's surrounded by beautiful countryside and is so very well equipped - it's a real home from home and is comfortable and a most inviting place to be. The pool and tennis court are great resources to have literally on your doorstop, and this weekend we've been eating the apples, plums and grapes picked from the extensive gardens. There are lovely views from all the windows of the beautiful French countryside, and a journey to any of the villages nearby always provides fascination - if not with markets, then with the history you find everywhere in this region. One surprise was the quality of the food at the small bar in Lusignac - we certainly weren't expecting it to be quite so good!

What a view!
We have had many holidays in the area over the years and keep coming back because we love the space, quiet, scenery and French way of life. When we arrived this year the first and overriding impression was the amazing views on all sides. It really characterised the holiday. The house was very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. This was the only house in the small complex that was commercially let and so the other holidays makers were also owners and / or their families. The pool was large enough for a good swim or cooling off in the most beautiful situation. We also enjoyed the tennis courts. We had a most relaxing time and would have no doubt in recommending this Gite to any family who enjoy rural France.

Wonderful..........
We had a wonderful week in Lusignac, the property was perfect for our family - spacious, private, great pool and tennis court, so much so that we didn't get out and about as much as on previous holidays......it was just great to relax in the lovely setting. There was everything we needed - pool things, bikes, games and lots of dvds. When we did get out and about we enjoyed a lovey BBQ evening Vertillac with music, food and wine, an arial rope adventure, and visiting pretty villages around the area.
We would certainly visit again.....

Relax or explore (or both!)
Well-located for a relaxing or exploring holiday (or a little of both) the house forms part of a tastefully converted farm and has stunning views over the surrounding Dordogne countryside.
Lusignac is approximately equidistant between Bergerac, Perigueux, Angouleme and the edge of the Bordeaux wine region so provides a lot of options for exploration of the region - a car is essential.
It is equally enjoyable for tranquil country walks around the local area, visiting local Dordogne towns and villages, or just taking it easy (with local wines) around the house, barbecue and pool.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would happily go back again with family or friends.

Response from VrboOwner on 22 March 2020
Drive to Bordeaux for the wine area is 100km approximately and will take about 1.5 hours. Bergerac is about 50 minutes. We don't have much in the way of commercial vineyards in my local area as such to visit, but we do have a fine venue to sit and enjoy your wine shopping watching the sunset!

Highly recommended
I have visited this holiday home several times now and have experienced it in most every season... and it has never disappointed. With three sons in tow, I love the spaciousness and I feel very 'at home' there. The landlord is extremely welcoming and helpful. The house itself and surrounding grounds are well cared for with everything you could wish for provided, actually.. including bikes. Of course, with children the pool is a great plus, as is the newly installed wifi! The landscape is tremendous with an uninterrupted view of the hills rolling into the sunset. Those same hills provide great walks and a challenging bike ride! I can definitely recommend L'Ancien Chai.

Hi, My name is Will. I am English.
I have been renting property with Owners Direct for nearly several years. I try hard to reply promptly to your enquiries and arrange a great stay for you. So if you have any specific requirements let me know and I shall try to help.
I hope you like my place and look forward to hearing from you.
Why they chose this property
Hi, we bought this house in 2005, but before that we had been renting visitors. When the owner decided to sell we grabbed the chance to buy L'Ancien Chai. It is only 50 minutes drive from Bergerac airport or Angouleme TGV train station. Ryanair and Flybe fly to Bergerac. Easy jet fly to Bordeaux. You will have a very relaxing family time here. Plenty to do on site if you wish to stay local, and many lovely country walks starting at the house. In the evening there is a great bar-restaurant in nearby Lusignac only 15 minutes walk away.
What makes this property unique
We have enjoyed lots of family holidays here and we just love the open aspect, the on site swimming pool and tennis and the panoramic views at sunset holding a glass of chilled beer. You'll love the house. The views are stunning. It is set up for family holidays with 5 bikes, Satellite TV and good wi-fi for social networking teenagers - a must these days!
