A cosy, very comfortable stay in a super clean and very well equipped mini barn. Really friendly hosts. A perfect mini break. We would definitely come back!
I had a lovely stay at the barn and everything was there that I needed. Helen and Andy were very good hosts most helpful and I would certainly reccomend the property for a stay.
We spent our last few days in the UK at the barn and loved our stay there. The accommodation was very comfortable and charming - full of character. The location was superb, tucked away in the heart of the lovely Sussex countryside with friendly local pubs within easy walking distance. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming and were happy to suggest the best local walks from the cottage using the map they supplied for us. Just a short drive from Gatwick Airport, we hope to stay again next time we visit the UK.
We really enjoyed our two-week stay at Step Cottage. It's a good location for driving to many National Trust locations, and close to towns with a variety of stores, and many nice farm shops with fresh meats and produce. Our hosts Helen and Andy were very helpful and gave us advice about towns and shops to visit that made our stay much better. The cottage is a nice place to relax with a pleasant garden, very quiet and restful at night. The kitchen has everything needed to make nice meals.
It's been so nice being back...and we intend to return the next time we visit the area.
Fresh eggs and milk in the Fridge a just one neat detail making the guest smile. Thanks so much.
Myself, my husband and my 2 year old stayed here and absolutely loved it! We booked the night before we were going to go on a whim and Helen was so accommodating which was amazing. The grounds are beautiful and the barn is a fantastic place to stay if you're looking to unwind! Will definitely be back - Thank you!
This was a wonderfull stay, with very helpfull hosts, that even fixed breakfast for us without us preordering! The only issue this place has is the tiny bathroom, where only the shower area seems large enough!

Loved it
Compact but well designed and thoughtfully furnished with everything you could need for a perfect 2night stay. We were blessed with beautiful weather and enjoyed sunbathing in the stunning garden with lots of cuddles from Archie the cat and Eddie the dog..A very warm welcome awaits from all the McLennan family with lots of help with ideas to occupy your time. Great pub and walks nearby.
We had such a lovely time at Step Barn cottage beautiful location, friendly hosts very reasonable and well equipped - blessed with the weather too! Thank you
This was a fantastic base for visiting a number of beautiful National Trust properties. The accommodation was perfect for us and met all our needs. Very clean and well equipped. All arrangements were easy and Helen was very helpful. Beautiful quiet spot which we really didn’t want to leave! Highly recommend.
Practical barn. Living room small, but a lot of space in bedroom for luggage. Nice terrace in large garden. Quiet area. Friendly hosts. Gardens and forest in neighbourhood. We spend four beautiful days.

Property was lovely and as described. Check in was simple. We came away to relax and get away from being mid house move and from constant builders noise at our flats. Unfortunately for us, the one morning we had to relax at the barn, someone decided to use a leaf blower continually around the property for around 2-3 hours which ended up driving us out to escape the constant noise. When we came back, although we were warned that there will be a property viewing taking place that day, we were taken by surprise in the late afternoon when relaxing on the sofa to find 3 faces peering in at us through the glass. This then happened again at the end of the viewing with no consideration for us. Unfortunately these aspects made the stay not very relaxing at all and the same as what we are currently dealing with at home, which was the reason we booked to have a peaceful break away from it. The barn itself was comfortable enough, with everything you would need.
A really lovely hideaway...beautiful gardens to admire at this property. We will stay again.

About the host
Hosted by Helen McLennan
The Barn is in the grounds of our family home, so we are always around to suggest days out and deal with any questions. My husband, I, and youngest daughter, have lived here for over ten years and love this friendly village and beautiful countryside. We have a collection of animals, including chickens providing plenty of fresh eggs for guests. Together with my husbands collection of motorbikes!
Why they chose this property
This is a beautiful part of Sussex and a very friendly village. The Barn is located in our half acre of landscaped gardens. The area has lots of wildlife, watch the deer graze in the fields around you whilst you enjoy a drink. Whilst we are rural London and Brighton are very easy to reach making this the perfect spot to explore the south east of England.
What makes this property unique
This area is perfect for walking, cycling and horse riding with lots of local attractions to visit, yet so close to Brighton and London
