Luxury Peak District Cottage in 5 acres, Private Pool, 2 miles from Ashbourne
Just 2 miles from the Georgian market town of Ashbourne, Swallows Cottage sits down a private lane, amidst 5 acres of gardens and orchards (help yourselves to plums, damsons and apples in Autumn.)
Take a footpath directly from your back door to the historical village of Tissington and beyond. Lounge by the private pool which is heated and open during the months of June, July & August. There's also a dining table by the pool - extend your evening in cooler months by lighting the Chesney's Wood burner/barbeque.
Curl up on the huge leather sofa watching one of the many dvd's in front of the wood burning stove in the sitting room, furnished with French antiques. There are plenty of books and games, too.
Rustle up your favourite meal in the well-equipped, large kitchen/dining room with large scrubbed pine table (seats 8) and Smeg fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer or treat yourself to a home-made ready meal from one of the delightful delicatessens in Ashbourne.
Coffee fans will be pleased to find a Delonghi Bean-to-Cup coffee machine and a La Cafetiere coffee jug.
Sleep peacefully in the antique four poster bed with crisp linen sheets -this room also has a tv - and far reaching views of the fields beyond. The cosy twin-bedded room has plenty of storage and we can also supply a travel cot and high chair, too. Fluffy white towels, bath mats and all linen provided, including swimming towels.
Modern bathroom with limestone flooring and underfloor heating.
Derbyshire's Jewel in the Crown, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall and Alton Towers/Splash Landings are just 30 minutes away.
Enjoy traditional local pubs, gastro pubs and restaurants with excellent food and real fires. Award-winning Callow Hall in Ashbourne is only 5 minutes away. Those looking for a traditional British pub will love "The Old Gate" in Brassington - about 5 miles away - roaring log fires, delicious pub food and really welcoming hosts. The Duncombe Arms at Ellastone is another favourite (about 25 mins away) - charming gastro pub with a great, buzzy atmosphere. The Red Lion at Hognaston serves delicious meals, too.
Try horse trekking at Tissington, action-packed fun at Alton Towers, Cycling and Sailing at Carsington Water.
You will have private patio with seating for four and a Weber charcoal bbq. There's a full information book in the cottage with plenty of suggestions of things to do, places to eat and some amazing walks, too.

Dear Deirdre, Thank you so much for your lovely, thoughtful comments. We lived in Swallow's Cottage whilst we were renovating our house - and just loved it - it is so important that it feels like home when you are away. Very much looking forward to welcoming you back in the future. Warmest wishes, Izzy
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely rural accommodation we had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay.
Think would be great in the summer out by the pool and patio with great rural views.
This place was amazing, the scenery, the local places to visit and the spectacular Callow Hall Hotel, where I have my fantastic birthday meal and cocktails. I would definitely return maybe in the summer this time so we can make the most of the pool.
Many Thanks for a relaxing get away.

The property was beautiful in the perfect location. We had some lovely walks with our dog, time to relax around the pool and had several excellent meals out as recommended by our host. Would definitely love to return sometime in the future.
Thank you!!
Relaxing and refreshing. Comfortable cosy cottage but we came for the pool really, which was great and very therapeutic. Fab location for walking and great food places nearby. Really loved Ashbourne. Cafe impromptu was great and Callow Hall amazing to eat at. Hosts were friendly, helpful, really kind and welcoming!

About the host
Hosted by Isobel James
Simon and I bought The Priory, Swallows Cottage and The Old Engine house in 2009. Since then we have renovated The Priory and Swallow's Cottage to ensure maximum comfort - whether it be beds, heating or endless hot water. Our landscape gardener has developed the grounds, especially around the swimming pool, sympathetically and with great detail. Our three children are often away and we relish the chance to look after our Swallows Cottage guests and love introducing them to our special Derbyshire "finds". We love being in such a peaceful spot but are endlessly grateful that we are just such a short distance from Ashbourne.
Why they chose this property
Having lived in a local village (some 6 miles from Asbourne), very happily, for 10 years, we were thrilled to find the combination of rural peace but without being miles from civilization - with Ashbourne just 2 miles away we can easily whizz in for milk, papers and take-aways without feeling that we are in a built-up area. An added bonus is that we can walk by footpath, directly from the front door to Tissington and beyond.
What makes this property unique
When we bought the property we were advised by many friends not to put a pool in - how glad we are now that we ignored their advice! This Summer has been glorious - Derbyshire at its very best. Breakfasting by the pool on a quiet Summer's morning can't be beaten.
