This recently updated, 2 bed/2bath penthouse has everything that you’d need for a perfect get away. Enjoy top floor view and privacy without having to navigate stairs – this complex has elevator service. Keyless entry means no more worries of losing keys going out to the beach. Other in unit conveniences include Wi-Fi connection, cable TV, bluetooth speaker, air conditioning in living area and in unit washer/dryer.

Family Get-A-Way in Paradise

Great condo with spectacular ocean views. Condo was clean and well furnished. The family enjoyed our 10 days in paradise. It was relaxing waking up to the sound of gentle waves crashing onto the lava rocks. Evening sunsets were gorgeous.

Great location

Mother Daughter trip

We had a wonderful time together. We watched sunrises and sunsets daily as we prepared to go on excursions. The big island has so much to offer and it was truly a wonderful experience. The condo was clean and perfect for our family of four.

Beautiful ocean view

The location was ideal for us, and was a beautiful view! We had a great stay, the property was clean, well organized and the check in was easy. Pool looked clean and refreshing, although we did not have an opportunity to utilize it. Our only want, a bit more of a selection of pots/ skillets, and cooking utensils… but everyone is different. We would definitely recommend and would visit again if our travels bring us back to the area.

Perfect View

We loved our stay here!! The whole place is perfect but the balcony views were a 10/10. We had our breakfast out there, enjoyed the beautiful sunsets, and fish/turtle watching. The main room was also another favorite because we slept with the balcony glass door open and we were able to hear the crashing waves which was so nice to sleep to. Overall we had an amazing time :)

The real deal

This condo was the real deal. The view was amazing and gave you a sense of solitude while still being very close to several towns. Everything was just as pictured and advertised. The included parking was convenient and easily accessible. There is a very nice binder of information on many restaurants, bars and activities in the room. The hosts were responsive and kind. 5 stars.

Paradise

This was a beautiful, updated condo right on the water. Lovely, quiet complex. Loved the spacious lanai overlooking the water. Enjoyed falling asleep hearing the waves crash on the rock. The other bedroom facing the road is a little noisy so be prepared if road noise bothers you. Beds were very comfortable. The condo had everything we needed. It was the perfect location to enjoy the Kona area. We would love to return!

Just What We Needed!

We stayed toward the end of a 3-islands-in-12-days visit to Hawaii. The condo was just what we needed to wind down from almost two weeks of activities, including 8 miles of walking in Volcanoes National Park the day before. Comfortable beds, gorgeous views from the lanai, the sounds of the waves at night—heaven. And Carolyn was wonderful to work with. She was responsive and clear in her communications. This will definitely be at the top of our list to stay whenever we visit the Big Island!

Kona Getaway

Late arrival found a security guard who helped us get our bearings with parking and finding our way to our place. Thanks Quintin. Condo was as described in our correspondence, had a little difficulty figuring out lights and air conditioning as it was quite warm as we arrivied late. We enjoyed our time on the property and were especially pleased to explore the tide pools and watch a turtle munch away right before our very eyes. Hawaii was all that we expected and more. Thank you!

The perfect condo to enjoy God's beauty and creati

First, Carolyn who is the new owner was delightful to work with. Her condo is so clean and the kitchen has everything you need. The sunsets were magnificent, the tide pools right off the balcony were full of sea life. The sound of the ocean was like a tranquilizer for us. We so enjoyed watching the sea turtles feeding every morning in the tide pools. Free parking under the building. Close to everything in Kona but away from the crowds. I hope God allows us to return to this beautiful location.

A delightful stay!

Hi Carolyn - We had a wonderful stay at your beautiful Condo! Since we were moving from anther condo in the same complex, Terri and Kevin really helped us out by letting us move food into the refrigerator earlier than our expected check in! They were so kind and the space was just perfect when we returned later! We found everything we needed and more! It was especially helpful to have the Key code one that we were familiar with, and the sunsets from the lani were spectacular! Thanks again for a perfect vacation stay. PS we loved the Pool and the ability to take the trolley to Kailua and the beach - not having to find parking was great!

Wonderful stay in Kilauea-Kona

We were very pleased with this unit! Clean, well kept, comfortable and well located. The 4th floor balcony and west-facing wall of windows allowed spectacular viewing of the most amazing sunsets! Bring a sleep mask, though, because the curtains are sheer. The A/C unit in the main living area worked very well to cool the master bedroom/bath, living, dining and kitchen areas. We didn't need the front bedroom, but took note that it was not cooled as well and would require fans to be comfortable. Wear your polarized sunglasses and you will be entertained by the tropical fish swimming in the water below! We would without hesitation stay in this unit again.

Beautiful view, comfortable condo

This is a wonderful condo with an amazing ocean view. The condo is very clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. Kitchen is very well stocked, including some cooking basics such as olive oil and spices. I feel that the hosts really thought through what one might need in a vacation rental and appreciated things like scissors, tissues, and laundry detergent, as well as beach supplies. It is a very easy drive to downtown shops and restaurants but it was great to come back to the quiet of the complex. But the best part of this condo has to be the ocean view. There is nothing between you and the ocean. Beautiful sunsets, and sea turtles feeding daily which we watched from the lanai. If we make it back to the Big Island, we will definitely try to rent this condo again.

Misleading for the price

Be cautious when considering this unit, as what you see in the photos does not accurately represent reality. The furniture is entirely different — gone are the recliners, and now the living room seats three. Gone is the pictured artwork, leaving primarily bare walls. Priced among the luxury units, it has no amenities, such as a stereo or a radio. It's sparsely furnished and stocked, necessitating we bought kitchen linens and coffee mugs. The primary bedroom is part of the living room with a thin partition not shown in the photos. The second bedroom was habitually hot from poor airflow, receiving no AC. The AC is not central, but a window unit in the living room. The condo complex is small and old. Some parts of this unit have been "updated" but done minimally and cheaply. Overall, we paid for a luxury unit and received a budget one. The unit did not live up to our previous VBRO experiences.

Nice stay…. Amazing sunsets

The condo is in a great location. Close to the town of Kailua-Kona. The condo is right on the ocean. You look out from the balcony and the ocean right below. The condo looks out to the west so you get beautiful sunsets from the balcony. The condo is quite spacious with two bedrooms and two baths. Nice living, dining and kitchen area. Kitchen has everything you need for cooking. The condo is on the 4th floor. There is an elevator but it’s a good walk to the unit from the elevator. If you have mobility issues it could be too far of a walk. There is ample covered parking which was great. Aspects of the condo interior is well worn (couch, furniture) There was a problem with ants but I think the exterminators were due right after we left. I would stay there again.

Great spot! Would definitely come back again!

Kona Bali Kai is a great property, and this unit has simply amazing views! There was plenty of room on the huge lanai, and the kitchen had everything you might need to prepare your meals. The unit was decorated attractively and everything was in good repair. The property itself is a little older, but the views just can't be beat. One of the great things about this property is that the pool stays open until 10 pm, whereas many hotels and complexes have much earlier closing times (I've seen as early at 7!). One thing to consider (and this is true of any two bedroom units along Alii Drive) is that one room will have the great ocean view (and sounds) and the other bedroom will typically face the street, and become a little noisy in the mornings because of it. No big deal if it's kids in the second room, but if you have two couples, just keep in mind that one will have the great view, the other, not so much. Overall, this room was a great value for the price.

OK but Not for Us Sadly

Nothing really wrong just as we said in the title not the place for us and we were a little disappointed. The owner may wish to update some of the photos on the listing as there are few cosmetic changes, especially on the Lanai. We didn't like the air con pumping out on the lanai as it created lots of heat, maybe there could be a screen. The complex is looking a bit tired and many of the communal areas are dirty. We didnt realise there would be no food offerings at night close by and had to drive or get an uber to get to the main town that was the biggest downside for us, location. Maybe the owner could improve the directions for how to find the parking as the entrance is very easy to miss (we speak from experience!) Whilst the property was clean, the washing machine in particular was very smelly and we had to run it on a hot wash and clean all the door sills to remove stagnate water, this maybe was down to previous guests and their use but could/should be checked by housekeeping, especially with a cleaning fee charged. We struggled with the fans which seemed to work erratically, again maybe this was us but there were no clear instructions to help us out. Sadly we would not stay again but Im sure for the area its a good option if you don't want to blow the bank but for us we felt it was quite expensive for what we got, parts are quite tired although you can see the owner has tried. Not intending to offend just wanted to be honest and this is our personal opinion

Pictures are better than the property

We ended up only staying about 20 minutes and then left and booked a hotel. Reasons why was because the building is in a sketchy part of town and the front door of the condo had a metal screen door I’m assuming for security reasons. The window above the door wouldn’t shut so there was a lot of street noise. It was very hot and the air conditioner was very dirty and the place just felt dingy. We felt like we could overlook these things until we tried the bed. The mattress was hard as a rock so much so we could not sleep on it especially with my bad back. I will say the view was amazing. I then texted the owner to let her know about the window and she responded immediately that if it was a problem she would contact her handyman. I then texted and said we actually were leaving because of the reasons I mentioned above and asked for the possibility of a refund. Then she ghosted me. I few days later I opened a case with VRBO they contacted the owner and she said no refund that she was keeping with the cancellation policy. We knew we would run this risk when we left. What I do want to say is that we own 3 vacation rentals and if and when our guests are unhappy about something we always offer them some sort of discount, we never ever just ghost them. I was on the fence about leaving this review but I decided to because like I said we are vacation rental owners and our main priority is guest comfort and safety and if they don’t feel that, we offer a discount of something to make them happy. At any rate I hope this review is helpful. Like I said the view there is amazing.

Great ocean view and sounds of the surf!

Had a very nice stay here near Kona. Unit was nice and clean. Everything we needed (although seemed somewhat odd not to have any shampoo or bar soap). Used the beach and snorkel gear which was nice to have.

Carolyn and Aart have been married for more than thirty years and have two grown sons. Carolyn is a native of Vietnam and Aart of The Netherlands. Carolyn is a consultant for a large German software company and Aart is a Presbyterian pastor also trained as a counselor. Carolyn likes to bake and travel and Aart likes to write books and be out in nature. They both like kayaking on the ocean although still have to work out who gets to be captain when they do. They enjoy the tropical fruits available on the Big Island and predict that between the two of them, they can keep the fruit orchards in business for a while. Carolyn's favorite are longans and Aart's the local papayas and rambutans. They love the natural diversity of the Big Island and the friendliness of the people and are fascinated by the Hawaiian culture that developed along the Kona Coast.

Why they chose this property

After having lived around a decade in South East Asia & traveled extensively around the world, Aart & Carolyn realize that they have always felt the pull of the tropics and the sea. With their hectic life style, they felt having a place to retreat to & decompress will provide the work life balance they need. They chose the Big Island because of its space, cultural history and natural diversity and the best and most affordable tropical fruits! This condo ticked all their boxes.

What makes this property unique

The view and proximity to the ocean, a location that is close to town yet quiet are among the advantages of Kona Bali Kai. A safe supervised beach for snorkeling (Kahaluu) is also a plus as is the Keauhou shopping center. The unit is quiet and you feel that you are there by yourself. You don't have to go anywhere to have the sights, sounds, smells and feel you're looking for.
