Rare & Huge Private Historic Townhouse in the Heart of London | Private Garden
INSIDE: An epic family home from home! A Luxurious 5 reception rooms with french doors opening on to the mature private garden,. Kitchen suite with lounge area. 2 dining rooms one with a dining table to seat 14 people. 6/7 bedrooms with great beds and loads of light, including an amazing vaulted ceiling master bedroom featuring a 12ft high canopy super king bed along with a luxurious marble en suite with a polished roll top bath. It has a bespoke chef's kitchen (150cm double oven with 8 hobs) with cooking area and 3 sofa lounge area looking over the garden, plus an additional separate second kitchen / utility. It is one of the biggest and oldest private houses in Kennington built in 1774 with beautiful original features but modernised with comfort and family living at its heart. A layout where you can all group together or have your own space depending on our your needs. Ideal for a large family trip. FACILITIES: The house has a multi room Sonos sound system across the many reception rooms, super fast wifi, several TVs through the property as well as a chefs kitchen with lots of crockery for hosting family & meals. OUTSIDE: We are set back off the road with a front garden with mature trees and are also are lucky enough to have a garden at the rear of the house with mature trees, rambling climbers and a croquet lawn, not to mention outdoor furniture. You can even hear Big Ben chime in the garden whilst the house itself shields street noise. THE AREA: We love the area ! The neighbourhood is one of London's best kept secrets and they regularly shoot films on Georgian square behind us. Too central to be a suburb it is a real authentic old part of central London littered with history, and where so much of it got destroyed in WWII - our house luckily survived. Kennington is in a bubble of land on the south side of the River Thames so in 5-20mins on foot you can get to so many places. We are are just 10-15 mins walk to Westminster, Tate Britain and 20-25 mins walk National Galleries, Covent Garden, South Bank, Theatreland, The Shard, & Borough market- plus there's the West End with cafes, bars, clubs and restaurants accessible by foot, bus or taxi. We are even right next to (1min walk) to the Imperial War Museum and its lovely park. The bus network virtually goes everywhere from the Imperial war Museum and Lambeth North Tube or Waterloo are the nearest underground stations.

As a family of ten (3 generations) , the house was perfect to spend time together and space for privacy. The house was well appointed but would have loved a coffee pot and a few more basic provisions (salt and pepper, sugar,) that we have usually found at our vacation rentals. Overall, however, all was lovely and we enjoyed our stay.

Many thanks for your review and feedback which is always welcomed. We are sorry that you felt the kitchen let the property down. Our advance welcome information pack outlines what the kitchen comes with, which at the time of your visit included 3 x Nespresso machines, 2 x cafetières, 3 coffee pots and 4 tea pots plus all the other usual equipment. For hygiene reasons and on previous client requests to ensure the kitchen is clean and sterile we do not leave any opened items such as sugar salt and pepper etc however on your recommendation we will look into this and see if we can do this for future clients as part of the existing welcome pack left in the kitchen. Many thanks again for booking us and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Happy onward travels.
Amazing house and amazing location. It is the perfect base for 1 or 2 families. Dog friendly too
This beautiful family home is just perfect for family gatherings. Set in the heart of the city only 15 minutes walk to the river Thames. Outside space is fabulous.. Highly recommend to anyone who love to get their family and extended family together. One more thing the house was beautifully decorated for Christmas... so extra little bonuses for us.
We rented this house to celebrate a few of our 40 th Birthdays in London , the house is just amazing and had everything we needed in it , easy to get places , tube just up road and shops and nice pubs a couple of minutes walk
We fell in love with this house and will definitely be back
Check in and out was easy by a lovely lady and lots of contact with the owner before we arrived with helpful advise about booking restaurants , parking etc
This was a lovely home with a 10 minute walk to the Lambeth North Underground Station. We had a group of ladies staying in the home and had plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen was amazing and the home was well decorated to feel like a home instead of just a house. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare meals. Each guest is provided with four towels. The bathrooms have plenty of toilet paper and wonderful toiletries. The beds are comfortable. We weren't actually in the home very much, as we were out seeing all there is to see! The only thing we were not expecting was the amount of stairs in the home. There are some seven floors to the house, mostly some five to seven steps up or down. While not a big deal, if you have mobility issues, it would be difficult to maneuver. We had a lovely stay and would stay again with a group.
Perfectly fit our 3 families traveling together. Had everything we needed. There are a lot of steps and levels in the home. Loved the outdoor garden area.
Three generations for eight days in one 18th century house
This is a wonderful house in an interesting neighborhood, separate from the crowds of the central city, but only a modest walk or short bus or tube or cab ride away from everything. It's separated from the street by a small front yard, and has a very large, shady, attractive back yard with a lawn, many trees and bushes (some flowering), and a fig tree full of fruit. Great place to sit around the large table with a cold beer after a day of sight seeing. And the little shop next door is stocked with beer, wine, and an amazingly complete set of what a renter needs, except fresh meats -- you need to walk for those, less than half a mile to a Tesco Express or Saintsbury Local. (Those are a long way from suburban American super markets, but we found them adequate.)
We were 13 people in four nuclear families and had plenty of space. The many rooms are beautifully furnished, with comfortable beds, and are reasonably well ventilated through the windows; no screens on the windows, but we had no problems with bugs in midsummer. The two large living rooms have lots of space and comfortable couches. The bathrooms have totally modern fixtures and are well stocked with towels, toiletries and TP.
The kitchen has a huge stove with sufficient pots and pans, cutting boards, cooking tools, and a huge selection of dishes, flatware, and glassware. We cooked quite a few meals there and were quite satisifed. The dishwasher and microwave worked well. The two Nespresso machines were new to us (heavy drinkers of American coffee), but we bought some Nespresso pods on line and brought them to London with us and were quite satisfied with the result. The huge table in the bottom-floor living room accommodated the 13 of us easily.
Damian's local representative, Caroline, gave us her cell number and met us at the house to show us around. She was available by phone or text if we had any complaints or problems, but we had none. The internet worked fine in the house, though the wifi was weak in some rooms
Luxury property, great location. My family of 9 had a great time. Lovely garden in which to relax after a long day of sightseeing. Would have been nice to have the outdoor chairs and table cleaned so we could have used it when the family was eating in. It was covered with bird droppings. Over all great. Outstanding master suite. Kitchen and bathrooms very modern.
This is the perfect home for a family gathering!!!!
This property has lots of space both inside and outside. Our family loved every minute of our stay.

Superb Location, Awesome House !
We had a superb Thanksgiving vacation at this luxurious home. Thirteen family members traveling overseas is a tricky situation and this home handled us well. This house is as beautiful as pictures advertise. It’s right next door to the Tankard Pub which is where we had a pint after playing our annual Thanksgiving family football game. Great depart location for visiting the major must see sites! Mark and Caroline (managers) were fantastic communicators and very hospitable.
We did have some issues with electrical fuses needing to be reset, but understandable taking into consideration our family’s substantial power needs and the differences of American versus Europe power usage. All in all a wonderful trip made possible by staying in a wonderful house.

A gorgeous property and home with all the appointments!
We were only staying in London for a few days but once we entered this home we wished we could have stayed for a month! It’s gorgeous! Well appointed, meticulously decorated, spacious, perfectly located in the heart of London, and inviting. This home had it all. It slept 13 family members comfortably, had a beautiful little back yard, a front courtyard, it was spitting distance from a major bus line, and next to a 24 hour small locally owned grocer. All the modern upgrades you could ask for while maintaining the historical beauty of the home. The property manager met us upon arrival and walked us through the entire home and showed us how everything worked. There’s even a bit of urban wildlife sharing the backyard with you. We will sing the praises of this property to all who ask!

The trip of a lifetime!
We can't say enough good things about the home, location, or the hosts. We have only been home for 24 hours and are already talking about going back. We stayed with two families, 11 people in all. The home's size, floor plan, and bedroom/bathroom count allowed everyone to relax and have their own space after a long day of site seeing while also hanging out together in the spacious kitchen area. We also were able to check more items off our wish list in terms of site-seeing than we anticipated since the home is so close to major attractions. This home is a must stay.

Wonderful
We had 3 generations in this house and all were comfortable and happy. Plenty of room to spread out with space large enough to also be together. The location of this house was perfect for walking to many exhibits and to experience London. Great location for groceries and restaurants. Would rent again should we return.

High quality but 300 year old house; close to the best tourist parts of London.
Spacious, very new bath/kitchen/etc. features. 300 year old house has only one-zone heating and lots of half-story stairs (a bit of a maze). But overall very nice. Not the usual tourist neighborhood at all, but very close to all the major London attractions. Very attention house manager.

About the host
Hosted by Damian
We love Historic buildings and love London. Our fundamental belief is a house should be a home for whoever is enjoying it. Having just finished restoring this amazing house we have hopefully made it like a home from home for friends, family and guests who rent the house. It is furnished to be lived in (comfy sofas and beds) with modern luxury (house sound system, TVs, networked WiFi etc) but also has some amazing period charm (restored architectural details) and decent but robust and useable furniture.
Why they chose this property
THE HOUSE: It is a unique historic town house - stunning to look at, huge inside, and in a brilliant location for enjoying London - it was love at first sight - we were the first people to buy it since it was originally built by the original owners in 1740. THE LOCATION: Kennington is true historic part of Central London and it's architectural pedigree whilst also being a modern part of London living community, with loads of restaurants and bars (recommend playing boule on Cleaver Square on a Wednesday). Best of both and central!
What makes this property unique
Outside - You can walk to so many great museums restaurants, the river, or theatres... or just sit int eh garden playing croquet listening to Big Ben chime.
Inside - The house is genuinely both being gorgeous to look and so comfortable to live in. Space to be together but also space to take time out from each other.
