This is a beautiful, private, well-maintained property in a quiet area of the island just a few minutes walk from the beach. It offers an incredible view of the marshlands from the back deck. This guest house has a well stocked kitchen including filtered water (no need to bring or buy bottled water). The bed is very comfortable. I usually have trouble with back pain when traveling due to poor quality mattresses but not at Wish Upon A Starfish. I definitely recommend this property and I hope to return for another stay.
Very quiet and peaceful. Gerry was very knowledgeable about the area and gave good restaurant suggestions. Short walk to the beach and unit was stocked with everything you would need. We really enjoyed our stay.
The place was very clean and had a lot of extra supplies which was nice. Gerry was around and helpful with replacing the bathtub stopper. There was no water in the marsh land due to drought. There is no ocean view. Maybe there used to be. We felt very comfortable there and it was great!
The house was immaculate and very spacious. The location is nice and quiet which was a plus for us. We loved the view of the marsh yet it was a just a short walk to the beach. Our host, Gerry, has just about anything you could want to enjoy your stay, including kayaks and well maintained bikes. We booked our return visit almost immediately after checking out.
This place was awesome. The location was great; the proximity to the beach was an added bonus. We really enjoyed the views and morning coffee on the deck. Would definitely stay again.
Excellent setting between the nature marsh and the big beach. The host was attentive and able to give some relevant recommendations for dining in the area. Secluded location, but convenient to everything.
The location was perfect and close to the beach access. Beautifully decorated and clean house with every amenity needed. Made for a very relaxing and worry free trip.
Everything about our stay was wonderful. The host is warm, helpful, and accommodating; the guest house is beautiful; and the view of the marsh is even lovelier than we'd expected. We will definitely recommend this property to friends and family.
We always enjoy staying at this wonderfully appointed, very well-maintained beach house...very peaceful and scenic.
We were close to the beach and were able to ride our bikes around the island, enjoying the area!

About the host
Hosted by Gerry
This will be my ninth year as owner of a wonderful guest house on Oak Island, North Carolina. Growing up near the ocean with the sounds of the sea birds, the roar of the waves crashing on the beaches, and the clear night sky filled with so many stars, I consider myself fortunate to be able to enjoy them all again.
Why they chose this property
If you long for the ocean that was once a part of your life as it has been for me, I invite you to Oak Island, a world away from the noise and rush of the "city-life" and to take this opportunity to re-acquaint yourself with the "sounds of the sea".
