About this property
Annies Cottage: Beautiful red stone cottage in the heart of Somerset
Annies is a beautiful 2 bed cottage set in the heart of the Somerset countryside. A newly renovated holiday home with pretty touches throughout. Annies is a typical red stone cottage with a modern twist and a warm, welcoming feel.
Sitting on the main street at the center of the quintessentially picturesque village of Halse, Annies offers clean and comfortable accommodation and is a home from home for all who visit.
ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation offers a spacious lounge with wood burner, dining area and oak flooring. Fully equipped kitchen and utility room. Pretty conservatory full of light, which overlooks a beautiful garden with stone wall, eating and patio areas. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with double bed, the second with two singles (one is pull out but very comfortable). All beds have memory foam toppers and high quality bedding for extra comfort.
PARKING
There is parking for one car, plus just a few steps away there is plenty of parking in the center of the village.
HALSE VILLAGE
The village of Halse is set in the heart of the Somerset countryside but still very accessible to local towns, villages and amenities. Many of the properties in the village are listed and there are quite a few thatched cottages lining the high street. This pretty little village is just a 10 minute drive from Bishops Lydeard, where you have shops, takeaway, post office and 2 pubs. There are also larger villages/towns such as Wellington and Wiveliscombe nearby. Halse is set in the heart of the countryside, so just a few yards from the front door in any direction you can find many countryside footpaths and bridal ways to walk and explore. There s a fabulous pub called The New Inn, with a great menu, wood burner, skittle alley and outdoor eating area. The New Inn is a very short walk along the main high street, so if you don t feel like cooking or fancy a pint you can wonder down without worrying about driving home. The inn has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and often holds events such as pub quiz and fish n chip nights.
EXPLORING THE AREA
The main areas for walking and cycling are the Blackdowns and the nearby Quantock Hills. The Quantocks are known for their beautiful open pathways and amazing views from the tor. If you love hiking and walking you will be in your element with these areas of natural beauty on your doorsetp.
There s a fabulous old steam train line which starts it s journey in the nearby village of Bishops Lydeard, then meanders along the northern Somerset coastline to Minehead, stopping at many quaint villages including ancient Dunster with it s castle on the way. You can get a day ticket and hop on and off as you like, visiting beaches such as Blue Anchor and Dunster should you choose to. The train welcomes children and dogs and is a fabulous day out, where you feel like youve stepped back in time.
If you prefer to drive, the north coast is a short 25 minute drive away through the countryside. You can visit Minehead, Porlock, Dunster and Kilve beach with its lovely tea garden with within easy driving distance. Another great beach is St Audries Bay which is near the town of Wiliton.
Further afield, just a 50 minute drive takes you to towns like Glastonbury and Wells in east Somerset. Just a short drive further and you can spend a day in the cities of Bath or Bristol; both are interesting in their own ways for different reasons and worth a visit.
There s a golf course where you can also pitch and putt just a 10 minute drive away in Oak village and you can also visit the beautiful house and grounds of Hestercombe If you want to explore the coast line beyond Somerset, its only an hour or so drive over the county border to Combe Martin, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe in Devon.
You may not want to go anywhere once you ve made yourself at home in this lovely little cottage though. You may prefer to go for long walks, pop down to the pub for a meal or just chill with a glass of something in the gorgeous, secluded garden.
Either way, you have west Somerset to explore and further beyond this hidden gem and it s coastline, there s east Somerset and north Devon within easy reach.
GETTING HERE

The village is just a short drive from there along the A358, then when you get to the main roundabout at Bishops Lydeard you turn left and follow the lanes which will take you to Halse in 10 minutes.

About the host
Hosted by Bella
I relocated from Hertfordshire in 2017. I fell in love with the cottage first and have since grown to love the village of Halse. People are so friendly here and there's always something going on the local pub the New Inn. Annie's is a magical cottage which has a warm, relaxed feel to it.. the perfect place to unwind.
Why they chose this property
Annie's is great for walkers and dog lovers as there are bridalways and footpaths in every direction once you step out of the door. You have the north Somerset coast a short drive away and can explore Glastonbury, Wells, Bath, Bristol and Exeter, if you'd like to go a little further. A great place to relax, unwind and visit the local pub. In the next village of Bishops Lydeard you have a supermarket, post office, 2 pubs, a petrol garage and lovely tea shop called Daisy's. The small towns of Wivilescombe and Wellington are a few minutes drive away and lovely for shopping and tea shops too.
What makes this property unique
Annie's has parking out front, two lounges (one is a small conservatory) and a lovely little walled garden, which was landscaped last year and is newly replanted. Although it's small there are 3 seating/eating areas, so that you can catch the sun as it travels across the garden. We have high speed wifi and Amazon and Netflix on the TV.
