High in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.
Set in 45 acres of parkland and woods, with grazing sheep, deer, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons giving a spectacular spring display. While the organic walled kitchen gardens grow some more unusual varieties of vegetables to the UK. You will find Romanesco, Cavelo Nero, and Pink Fir Apple potatoes to name a few, all complimentary subject to season and availability.
The lively market town of Bideford makes an excellent day out, with weekly market and working harbour. With so many pubs and restaurants to choose from, why not treat yourself to a meal out before heading home. Fishing and horse riding can be found within 5 miles. Shops and pubs 5 miles.

Garden Cottage offers well-appointed and comfortable accommodation within the tranquil and delightful setting of Webbery Estate. The property is well maintained and immaculately presented with a robust COVID protocol in place affording peace of mind.
The property owners were welcoming and very considerate; providing a welcome pack and access to seasonal fresh vegetables from the impressive walled gardens on the Estate.

Great cottage for a couple. No complaints and wonderful setting. Some reduction in comfort as a result of Covid measures, but limited. Glad to get away and enjoyed the stay.

We have stayed at Garden Cottage a couple of times.
We have stayed at Garden Cottage a couple of times. The setting at The Webbery is amazing, lots of acres to walk around plus the tennis court & 2 walled gardens filled with suburb seasonal produce to help yourself to. The accomadation is super comfortable with everything catered for, very tastefully furnished and the bed uber comfy. The owners are very friendly not intrusive and very hospitable. For a very special local treat to go along with the garden produce if you are cooking at home try the local Top Meadow Farm for meat situated at Butchers Row, Barnstable. It's truly amazing and they deliver. Enjoy your stay, the Owls hooting at night are a very special sound.

We had a superb time with Kevin and Katy at Webbery.
We had a superb time with Kevin and Katy at Webbery. We had to do some remote work during our stay, and the internet connection is super-fast fibre. We also made delicious meals entirely from the vegetables and herbs we picked from their gardens. Highly recommended - we hope to return again soon.

Excellent accommodation with very kind and helpful hosts in Kevin and Katy.
Excellent accommodation with very kind and helpful hosts in Kevin and Katy. The grounds were fantastic as was the cottage. Our only gripe was that the settees were not the most comfortable! But it’s a tiny thing - we had a fantastic stay with our 2 year old daughter and hope to return in the future.

We had a lovely week in Garden Cottage.
We had a lovely week in Garden Cottage. Set in the grounds of Webberly Manor, the cottage has everything you need for a relaxing break in Devon.
The cottage was spotlessly clean, with all of the facilities you would expect - the bed was comfortable, the kitchen well equipped (not just 2 of everything, which is often the case in properties for 2) and there was a plentiful supply of hot water and heating. The location is ideal - you are less than 10 minutes drive from the local pub and a supermarket, and pretty much equidistant from both Bideford and Barnstaple, with many other lovely places not too far away.
I would definitely recommend Garden Cottage.
There were 2 things that could be improved (neither of which made any difference to our enjoyment of the week). Firstly make it clearer in the welcome documentation that the entrance to the cottage is through the main front door to the Coach House - we struggled at first before we worked this out. Secondly, the sofas in the cottage are very much past their best - both of them were hugely sagging in the centre. We just had one each and sat in the dent in the middle, but they weren't very comfortable. Again, neither of these things were big enough to stop us having a great week in Garden Cottage.

Garden cottage is one of several apartments in a large outbuilding.
Garden cottage is one of several apartments in a large outbuilding. It is in a quiet spot on the Webbery estate having access to two large vegetable gardens from which the owners encourage you to help yourselves. The cottage itself is comfortable though in some areas it was in need of redecoration. Parking for the cottage was a little difficult and took some maneuvering to access a space behind a hedge . Webbery estate is a little off the beaten track which in itself is not a bad thing but do be prepared for quite a tricky drive along narrow roads for 2 or 3 miles. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to friends.

Kitchen very well equipped, very comfortable bed with modern ensuite shower room.
Because the Garden Cottage is on the ground floor the outside space was just right for Marley our dog, the enclosed wall ground was completely safe and enjoyable.
Looking forward to booking it again next year

Superb quiet setting within a country estate offers interesting walks within the grounds, easy parking and the cottage has all facilities to enjoy a short or longer stay. Feb when we stayed so didn't get the full benefit of the wonderful walled gardens but still enjoyed the countryside setting. Great base to explore the area if you have a car & a number of good pubs within 5 miles if you want to eat out in the evening. Friendly & helpful hosts, not invasive but accessible when we needed anything. Hope to see this place in summer next time, I'm sure it is stunning.
