From Pevensey Castle, there are further links to the South Downs Way. Boreham Bridge Barn resides in its own historical setting close to Battle, the site was excavated in 2008 and timbers were discovered which were radio carbon dated to 660-830AD, suggesting a mid to late Saxon jetty was present, with the coastline being much further inland than it is today. As a result, an archaeological survey was carried out and several fired clay pieces of East Sussex ware, probably from a kiln or bread oven, were discovered along with fragments of storage vessels dating to early–mid Iron Age, and flint tools dating back to the Bronze Age. Most of these pieces you can see on display in the barn.
Explore the rolling countryside and take a ride on the Kent and Sussex steam railway, which can take you to the fairytale moated castle at Bodiam. Enjoy the coast at Hastings with its fishing fleet, pier and iconic net huts. Camber Sands offers miles of golden sand dunes and an opportunity to polish up your kite surfing skills, and Eastbourne at the foot of the South Downs also makes for a great day out. From Battle, there are good train links into London if you fancy a spot of sightseeing. Beach 8 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

The barn was very comfortable and convenient for visiting family in Hastings.
The barn was very comfortable and convenient for visiting family in Hastings. There was a little road noise early mornings and evenings but this did not detract from our enjoyment of the stay. The one downside was the Vax cleaner was not very good.

A lovely place to stay! Well-equipped, comfortable and a beautiful garden - secure enough for the dogs to run around safely. As others have commented, the road is quite noisy, but that didn't bother us. It would be good to know if there are places to walk the dogs close by without having to drive first. It wasn't a problem for us as we were only there for the weekend but for a longer stay this information would be useful.
Check in was easy, we were welcomed with fresh flowers, wine, tea, coffee, biscuits and milk as well as a sparkling clean house. Very warm, comfortable, the downstairs bedroom and en-suite was perfect for my parents. The bathrooms both had really good showers, cooking facilities were great. We really enjoyed our stay and it provided the perfect base for our stay. Thank you so much!

Lovely accommodation; comfortable, clean, warm and well equipped to a high standard.
Lovely accommodation; comfortable, clean, warm and well equipped to a high standard. Friendly welcoming helpful hosts. Welcome pack to make a drink on arrival. Garden is safely enclosed, much to the relief of ourselves, and the squirrel pursued by our dog!We stayed for a week. Our adult party plus one dog were very comfortable and had a fabulous time visiting local beaches, and NT & English Heritage properties etc. Great star gazing possible from the garden.Although the barn's garden and the site are enclosed and gated, the location right next to a busy road may not be best suited for those with younger children, or poorly trained dogs. Although traffic can be noisy at commuter times it didn't concern us. No dog walking in the immediate vicinity. Pubs and coffee shops within a short drive. All supermarkets a little further afield. One of our concerns when booking was that there seemed to be no Wifi. There is Wifi at the barn and it was adequate for our requirements. Oh, and in response to a previous reviewer, the vacuum cleaner provided worked well for us. Highly recommended, would stay here again
