Welcome to Bethany Reserve Cottage (formerly Sonntag House) — a beautifully restored circa-1840 settler’s cottage where Barossa heritage, tranquillity and modern comfort come together.
Set directly opposite the Bethany Reserve and creek, and located on the Bethany Historical Walk (Stop 15), the cottage enjoys a rare position in the heart of the Barossa. Peaceful, green and rich in history, it feels removed from the bustle — yet remains just minutes from Tanunda, the region’s vibrant centre of food, wine and culture. Wake to birdsong, wander the historic walking trail from your doorstep, or let children explore the open lawns, playground and shaded creekside paths directly across Bethany road.
Lovingly restored with a sympathetic modern addition, the cottage retains its original character — thick stone walls, flagstone floors and a traditional wood stove — while offering the ease of contemporary living. The country kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed breakfasts and unhurried meals, while the cosy lounge with slow-combustion fire invites you to settle in with a book or a glass of local Barossa wine.
The cottage comfortably accommodates two couples or a family, with two generous bedrooms. One bedroom home to a queen bed, and the other a double and single bed. There is also a fold-out sofa for additional guests (upon request). Quality linen is provided throughout, and a modern bathroom, toilet and laundry are discreetly housed within the newer extension.
Step outside to a vine-enclosed courtyard with gas BBQ, perfect for alfresco dining, or wander the surrounding gardens beneath towering pink peppercorn trees. With the reserve, creek and historic walking trails at your doorstep, the setting invites you to slow down and experience Bethany at its most authentic.
Whether you’re here to explore world-class wineries, enjoy scenic walks steeped in local history, or simply unwind in a character-filled country cottage, Bethany Reserve Cottage offers a memorable Barossa escape.

An incredibly comfortable cottage - the perfect size for us (2 adults) travelling with our 16 year old daughter. Had everything we could possibly need and is also walking distance to Bethany Estate, which has excellent wine and spectacular views!

Thankyou Julie. We are glad you had such a nice stay. Sam
Bethany Reserve Cottage is beautifully maintained, well-equipped, and full of character. We loved the tranquil surroundings. A perfect base for exploring the region’s wineries and countryside.
Cosy, clean and very comfortable. Great location and was very quiet and peaceful. The wood fire was fantastic as it was very cold and raining. Will definitely stay here again.
We only briefly stayed at Bethany reserve cottage but it was such a quaint little accommodation. Wish we could have stayed longer. Very cosy stay with lots of little homey touches.JJ
Such a beautiful place to stay! Peaceful and quiet and a great get away for a relaxing time away. Close to the main street of tunanda but also far enough away from it too to avoid business.
This was a lovely property with charm and character. Perfect location, close to Tanunda and easy driving to the whole of the Barossa. It was quiet and secure. We’d definitely recommend staying here.
The cottage was very clean, beds were comfortable and the owner was communicative and very helpful. We had a very relaxing weekend. Thanks for a lovely stay.
The generosity of the space in the cottage and grounds was very much appreciated after being on the road in sometimes cramped lodgings. The open fire was wonderful on the cold nights we were there.
