Great location, easy and fast access to the beach, nice place to stay, great neighborhood. The AC was down but it was constantly breezy so it wasn’t a huge deal. We weren’t miserable without it.
We checked in at 3pm and turned the thermostat down from 76 as suggested by the owner. We went to the beach that evening and came back and it was still 75 degrees in the house. The internet wasn’t working and refrigerator wasn’t getting our drinks cold either so we contacted Jan. She immediately sent the maintenance man over who lives in the bottom of the house. He felt of the air coming out of the vent and said “it feels cold” and felt inside the refrigerator and said the same however it was hot in the house and our drinks were warm. He did get the internet working that night.
The next morning we got up and went out on the porch to enjoy the view and Curt, the maintenance man, came out with a cup of coffee and sat on the other side (it is 2 houses in one). He said he does this when that side wasn’t rented out. So, we wanted privacy so we left and went for a day out and shopped and had a nice dinner at Sweet N Savory in Wilmington (which is absolutely amazing!!) When we came back around 9:30 the storm was starting and the ocean water had already got past the sand dunes and began flooding the roads so we were unable to get back to our beach house with the directions of the GPS. Again, we called the owner and she said that we should be able to go this way or that way and there was absolutely no getting back to the house. Her suggestion at this point was to go to a hotel. As we attempted to get to a hotel the storm got worse and we couldn’t see to drive due to rain and the wind was TERRIBLE. So we stayed parked in a car wash for 4 hours and road out the hurricane. We attempted to get back to the house around 2am and the road was blocked due to a house fire. At this time the firemen said that there was water waist deep and we would not be able to get back to the house that time. So, we make our way to a hotel. The owner then messaged us back around 2:30, after me asking for an update, and said that the roads were sandy but water was gone and we should come back to the island because they may not let us back in if we didn’t. We stayed at the hotel and got sleep. The next morning we returned to the beach house, there was damage everywhere. Curt informs us that the AC wasn’t working in our unit so we assume we will be moved to the other side where the AC was working. No, Curt was staying in that side now due to the bottom of the house flooding. So, we go to beach to cool off and come back, no water now. So we called to get a refund and was told no

Response from VrboOwner on 9 August 2020
Hello Chasity, I am truly sorry for the disruption to your trip. I have been in contact with VROB to provide you with a refund or free stay for your troubles. Curt provides onsite maintance to ensure your stay is trouble free by staying on the ground floor for faster service, his home was flooded due to the storm that came through Oak Island, please be kind as Curt lost his entire home that night along with all possessions that he was not able to bring upstairs while escaping the four (4) foot waves through the ground level. I do hope you will accept the free stay at a later date to provide you with a more favorable experience. Most important is everyone was able to stay safe during the storm. Best wishes - Jan
The house was perfect for my family and children. It had everything we needed and was right across the street from the beach. The property owners were really quick to respond when and if we needed anything. Overall we had an amazing time.
Great place to stay! I had trouble when reserved on line when put in the dates I needed and paid and after I paid the dates changed ! I even had an email confirmation with correct dates but my recpt showed one day off! I could not get refunded all of it to reserve another place with correct dates but they did refund one day!
Great location, very clean.
Internet didn’t really work, but property owner did all she could, even let us use her internet. Thermostat was pre set and got warm at different times. If you were not there to turn down, upon returning was really warm, 76. However would cool down. Also only one tv in living room with very few channels. Over all the beach stay was wonderful, not crowded and lots of ocean time.
