Good place to stay for a small family

The cabin is nice and very cozy, comes with all the commodities required for a long stay. The walk down to the river is not as bad as other reviews have said. The access to the river via the dock could be improved. Overall we had a great time, I would stay here again.

This was the perfect little getaway for our family. We brought our dog and our 3-month-old baby. We were able to set her bassinet up in the little room for naps during the day. It was incredibly well equipped, especially the kitchen. It's on a very pretty part of the river. This is a great spot for a single family or a couple of very close friends. It wasn't quite as quiet as I expected as it is very close to two other cabins/houses that all share a driveway (and also had dogs) but we still had a lot of privacy!

Clean, quiet, all amenities inside/outside were exactly what we needed. The walk down to the river is a bit steep, but we were aware prior to renting and had no issues at all. Had a wonderful stay!

Very enjoyable!!!

Cabin was perfect!! We all had a Great time just chilling, grilling on the fire pit and hanging in the water!! Only thing is the deck steps down to the water were not the best, but we just used the hill. Would definitely stay again!!!

Was great location for snow trails

We stayed and felt was a great location, traveling with a child, i wouldn't pick this location. if you a couple just trying to get away that should be fine. talking with the actual owner, was a great experience. Easy check in... has a bit more then liked for added fees for the cabin condition.

It's just GORGEOUS there. I wish I could go back today. Even in the winter - absent what I would've loved to do there (FISH! - it IS on the Au Sable!) - it was still really really cozy. I needed a retreat - and this was perfect. VERY quiet (I'm a musician- and I need quiet). A perfect place to collect my thoughts. I loved that it was a good 10 minutes from town as well (separation- good; supplies-close enough) The owner thought of everything! PERFECT!

Short stay

The cabin was clean and cozy. Nice fire pit area in the back and only 15 minutes from stores. The main bed was very uncomfortable. It sinks down low on one side, It should be replaced. Being unable to sleep well definitely impacted the stay. I would avoid this rental until the bed has been replaced with a new bed.

Just okay

The location is okay but we were mostly coming to get into the water and go canoeing which we were told there were canoes and kayaks on site and a place to drop in. That is correct however they did not mention the extremely steep incline hill of mud and roots to get into and out of the water and the length of the incline which is absolutely not doable so basically the ploy to get us on site and booked dropped many stars for our family. If I were to just rate the house that was a 4.

Hi Lisa, we truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts about your recent stay. Your feedback is essential to us, and we've relayed your comments to the homeowner, who would like to address the following: - Thank you for choosing to stay in our Frederic, Michigan cabin and leaving a review, as guest feedback is vitally important to us and the success of our vacation rental business. - Typically, rentals offer canoes and kayaks as optional amenities for an additional fee. However, I've decided to offer my personal kayaks and canoes as an amenity without a fee but request that guests take good care of them. - Regarding the incline to access the water, we understand it can be challenging. While the cabin does provide access to the water, it's not designated as a canoe landing. Guests should use their discretion, and if the incline is too steep, there are nearby liveries that can assist with river trips. - I genuinely value your input, as I want all guests to have a great experience.

A honest review

So I wanted to give a honest review of this cabin and property cause I feel the advertisement for it is a little dishonest. Pulling up to this cabin first off its right off a major road and you can hear all the traffic from it very loudly. There is housing on both sides of you and there is no privacy. Inside the cabin the ceilings are so low my husband had to angle his neck to walk around. To get down to the little dock you have to go down a perilous trail that we elected to do only once. The bathroom and shower are very small for anyone that has a little extra in the middle to themselves. I wasn't thrilled with what we got after getting there from seeing what they show to what the reality is. I will not be coming back, just make sure you realize it's not the cabin they make it out to be.
Response from VrboOwner on 24 August 2023
Hi Carmen, we truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts about your recent stay. Your feedback is essential to us, and I'd like to address your comments directly: - Thank you for choosing to stay in our Frederic, Michigan cabin and leaving a review, as guest feedback is vitally important to the success of our vacation rental business. - We aim to provide an accurate representation of our property in our listing. It's indeed a rustic cabin, and we make no claims to the contrary. The low ceilings are typical of cabins in this area, built during a specific time frame, and we understand it might not suit everyone's preferences. - Regarding the location, we do have a map on our listing which shows that we are close to a major road, as transparency is essential to us. We're sorry if the traffic noise was more noticeable than you expected. - The trail to the dock is a natural, wild path, which many of our guests find appealing as it immerses them in the natural surroundings. However, we understand it might not be suitable for everyone. - We genuinely wish you had contacted us with your concerns before or during your stay so we could have addressed them and potentially found a solution to make your experience more enjoyable. Again, thank you for sharing your feedback, and I apologize for any discrepancies between your expectations and the reality of your stay. We hope you have better experiences in the future, whether here or elsewhere.

Just ok....

When booking I wanted something with water access, not to swim or kayak, but to just sit out at. The dock is EXTREMELY questionable, the stairs shown in the picture that lead down to the dock are false. There is none. It's a steep incline that my husband helped me get down. There were screws coming out, one of the rails on the dock were loose and could not hold any weight. There were some benches (shown in picture) around the fire, however these have not been maintained and the one when we went to move it completely fell apart. The log where you can hook a dog up to is rotten through and wouldn't even hold a small dog. (Not that we brought any animals). The porch is falling apart in some spots. The cabin was difficult to find because there's nothing really out at the road to show you where you're going. There are 2 houses nearby and while there is a fence on the one side the other has some trees between. Walking into the house it smelled like wet dog. The ceiling is low so my 6'3" husband had to duck or turn his head in many areas. There was a half full travel coffee mug in the bathroom. A random towel next to the sofa. Was washing the dishes before we used them because they werent all clean Minimal supplies, mostly a few basics in the kitchen. The bed has not been fixed/replaced as eluded to in the previous reply because it has a serious lean to the head. The shower is tiny. Barely room to turn around. Overall just a decent place, but not quite worth the $.

Amazing getaway cabin "Up-North"

This little cabin reignited our love our northern lower Michigan! We had an amazing, relaxing stay here. The cabin is immaculately clean and even included pantry staples. I definitely overpacked! We were also thrilled our dog was allowed to stay with us. We spent most of our time down by the river. We even brought our kayaks with us but didn't need them due to the wonderful canoe that is also provided. Such a beautiful river to fish, wade and canoe on! The whole time we were there we never saw another person, even on the river! Loved the seclusion. We were sad (I think our dog was the saddest) we had to leave our new favorite little getaway spot but will definitely be back, if we don't buy a place of our own soon!

Beautiful & Secluded Cabin

Quiet, secluded, cabin on the river. Sitting on the dock riverside you feel away from everyone & everything. Looking for Upper Michigan solitude? This is it. It's still close to Traverse City Sleeping Bear Dunes, & other busier Michigan attractions.

Secluded Cabin on a Lovely River

Quiet cabin, sitting on the dock or in the river itself is a splendid Michigan experience. Easy to find, but when you're on the river you feel like you're 100 miles from anyone else.
