The place was great and the backyard was excellent for hanging out with friends. Nice to have kayaks as well to use in the lake in the back. Proximity to Dunes was also excellent.

From the owner: "I am so happy you enjoyed my home and your stay. Please stay with us again in the future!"
The outdoor space at this property is wonderful. It is right on a pond. There is a grill, firepit, plenty of places to sit and relax. We were happy with the spacious and clean inside as well. Overall, a great place to stay.
We enjoyed our stay. It was a great location for visiting Indiana Dunes. I gave a 4/5 overall because I didn't like the fact that we had to put all of the clean dishes away from the dishwasher, strip the beds and take the garbage out to the bins. I feel like this is why you pay a cleaning fee. My only other suggestions for the host would be to get better pillows in the bedrooms, the ones provided were very flat and stained, and also some hooks in the bathrooms or bedrooms to hang towels on would have been really helpful. There is only a small towel bar in the bathroom, not big enough for more than one wet towel
We are originally from the area but moved to GA 18 years ago. All of our Family still resides in NW Indiana. It was nice to have a home to stay in and yet be together with all of our Family. The property was a perfect location and provided all the comforts of home!
This place is perfect for a large family or a group of friends! Clean and lots of perks. Loved the hot tub and the responsive host! You won't be disappointed!
The property was well kept. Anything we could have possibly needed was on hand. Geraldine was friendly and accessible, although everything was so prepared we really didn't need to contact her for anything. Excellent place to stay when visiting the dunes. Able to come back to the place after a long day in the national Park and relax on the deck, kayak, fish and just relax. Highly recommend this property to anybody visiting Indiana dunes.

House was clean, beautifully decorated, and much large than it appeared from the outside and images. Best stocked kitchen of any other places I have stayed. The backyard and pier were large, comfortable. Kids loved play around the in the water - swimming, kayaks and the paddle boat. Ms. Geri was so pleasant. Great experience!

Homeowner's Response: "It was a pleasure to host you and your family. Enjoy the remainder of your summer, and again thank you for being my guest."
One of the main reasons for staying here was a private hot tub. It was being repaired when we got there and took until the next day to be heated and after turning on, it immediately started leaking and shut down. Still not repaired as of check out time. We would appreciate an adjustment made to the cost of rental.

Hi Shirl, we’re sorry your stay fell short of expectations. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
-We did have a repairman at the property fixing the hot tub when you arrived.
-The hot tub takes about 6-8 hours to heat after it has been drained and refilled.
-We are sorry the hot tub needed an additional repair visit. We hope the measures we took helped make up for the inconvenience.

Beautiful Retreat for Families
We absolutely loved our stay here. We traveled with four adults and three kids (between the ages of 3 and 8) and truly felt like there was something for everyone. From the provided fishing poles and kayaks, to nights in the hot tub or around the fire pit, each space seemed to be designed with intentionality, and with families and relaxation in mind. The indoor spaces offered just enough amenities and space to truly make it feel like a home away from home. Multiple spacious living areas made it very comfortable. The lake itself was serene and clean. A quiet peaceful space to reflect and enjoy nature, and the absolute perfect view to wake up to in the morning. We also enjoyed meeting the host, Geraldine, and hearing about the history of the lake. We accidentally locked the basement door and couldn’t get downstairs. She responded to texts quickly and came over within a couple hours. She was so kind and friendly, had all the qualities you’d look for in an excellent hostess. You could really tell she cares about the guest experience. The town of Portage itself wasn’t much, but this was the perfect place to stay- an hour drive (or less depending on traffic) to the city, a half an hour across the border to Michigan and adorable little beach towns, and a quick ten min drive to the gorgeous beaches of Indiana Dunes National Park… if you can pull yourself away from the serenity of lake life long enough to explore elsewhere that is ;)Our entire crew would be quick to recommend this space to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, with tons of adventure within arms reach for those who want to stay busy as well! It was a beautiful balance of both!

Thank you Breanne for being my guest. It was a pleasure meeting you, your family and friends. It warms my heart when guest truly enjoy the beauty and serenity of my property and experience the beaches, the National Park and multiple quaint beach towns in the immediate area.. Again THANK YOU!
We met our dear friends and their kids here for a long weekend to explore Indiana Dunes, and we think it was the perfect house for our four adults and five kids (ages 6 to 15). Pros:- The pond it sits on is beautiful! The kids went on the kayaks both days. - The outdoor space is lovely. The kids spent all their time at the house outside. We ate outside, played games outside, etc. - Quiet neighborhood - The kids loved the hot tub!- Reasonably priced- Close to Indiana Dunes National and State Parks (the reason we came here!)- Clean beds, bathrooms - super important to me!- Plenty of towels and linens and blanketsCons:- Gas oven makes the whole house smell of gas, which was concerning to us. We stopped making sweet potatoes because we were worried about the smell. Opened the back door to air it out, and it was fine. - Drains in both upstairs showers are very slow, so you end up showering while standing in some water. - House alarm went off one evening, and we're still not exactly sure why. The Evolve company was as helpful as they could be, but we never heard back from our local hosts about it. Luckily, it only happened once. So, not a huge deal. - If you're planning on cutting a watermelon, plan to bring your own knives. ;) Overall, we had a lovely time and would stay here again. The outdoor space makes this place special! Would recommend.
Great house, amazing backyard, perfect to relax and hang out.
The house was good if not better than the pictures. Multiple beds and 2 kitchens. The backyard has everything you could want with an outdoor bar, fishing equipment, and kayaks. Hot tub was there but was not working. The location is good not great. Close enough to many thing things but not a lot within 10-15 minutes so will need to drive for anything outside of the house. That would not keep me away from renting this house again because the other aspects made it worth it.
