We wanted to get away from the Texas heat and this place was perfect. The owners were extremely responsive on my questions about the property and the area.
This was a perfect place for our family to reconnect! We were even gifted a beautiful snow! We would love to come back again! There is plenty of room, the kitchen table was so nice to have everyone around!
Comfortable place for our family of 5 and a dog. No issues— there is an elk that came by every morning in the back yard at sunrise which was a nice surprise!

I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. Please come back anytime.
Nice quiet property with plenty of room for people and dogs…
The property owners made the check in and out process simple which was nice. The property is spacious and located in a quiet neighborhood. The fence in the back is great for big dogs, but smaller dogs may be able to escape. Over all we had mostly everything we needed in the house and enjoyed our stay.
Tons of room! The kitchen is big enough to hang out in while people cook. Lots of flat level parking which is great in the snow. Big beds, big patio big everything. It’s also in a very quite place so it’s easy to take a deep breath and relax.
This property was a nice 5 bedroom house that accompanied our family. The owners had everything you need for a family to feel comfortable, all the accommodations, including extra bedding, towels, pots, pans, storage containers, all that a family would need to feel at home! The house is tucked in the trees, with several different covered porch areas and a wonderful porch swing to relax and enjoy the weather!
Cue the Elk was the perfect house for our family Christmas. There was plenty of room for everyone, there were 6 adults and 3 medium size dogs. The yard was plenty large enough for the dogs to run and play. The kitchen was well stocked and had most staples for us to cook a fabulous Christmas dinner. We would definitely book this property again!
We spent 7 days at this lovely home. There were 3 generations represented and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. The front porch with the swing was a favorite place to sit and relax. There were deer to watch while relaxing there. We saw a buck, doe and fawn! It was a great location to use as a base while exploring the surrounding area. Just under 9 miles from the center of Cloudcroft made it an easy trip for those wanting to go to town.
We were able to cook for all 9 of us in the well appointed kitchen. Small appliances were provided. We all agreed before we left that we would love to return. The beds were comfortable and the 2 living areas provided enough space for everyone to spread out and just enjoy being together. It was WONDERFUL!!!!!
We enjoyed our time at Cue the Elk cabin! The owners thought of every little detail to make our stay enjoyable and fun. There were DVDs, an XBOX, Samsung TV plus, kitchen utensils, storage bags, spices, condiments, toiletries, yoga mats, and so on. They thought of everything one might forget when going on a trip. The cabin was spacious and had a very cozy feel. Everyone loved the cabin!! The fenced in yard and porches were my favorite parts of the cabin. My daughters explored the yard with our dogs and I didn't have to worry about them wandering off. The porches were wonderful to just sit and enjoy the mornings and evenings chit chatting with each other. We are already planning our next trip to Cue the Elk. Thank you so much for allowing us to rent your beautiful cabin!!

Cloudcroft Cabin
A bit cluttered and all the furniture was pretty old and worn out. The bed sheets were torn in a few places and low quality. No door to the bathroom in the downstairs bedroom. The grass in the backyard was high and untidy. Lacking a griddle in the kitchen and not a good seasoning assortment- no steak seasoning and no black pepper. The photos were more appealing than reality. Regardless, we enjoyed our stay with family. And to be fair, it was probably a typical type cabin for the Cloudcroft area.

It was an awesome stay as we saw deer and elk while enjoying the porches and decks. Picked cherries and enjoyed a fresh pie! Need a pie plate! First evening was warm given the air had not been turned on but cooled off later. Owner purchased a printer just for us to use on our planned family gathering and ancestry search but ended up using scanner we brought. Appreciate the extra effort and expense! Communications were great! All the extras you need but often forget like plastic wrap, foil or paper towels! Local restaurants were awesome. Wish the extreme fire danger didn’t hinder our planned hiking and sights of National Forest areas! Appreciate that our little furry family could join us! Would recommend again!
We really loved the cabin, all of us were able to sleep in our own rooms and there was plenty of space to move around. Our friends really loved the gaming system! Only recommendation would be pack a blanket and maybe take a small heater for the upstairs rooms. There are stove heaters but the constant having to add wood to the fire was a little tough, and the heater would only heat the master bedroom and part of the living room area. Would also recommend taking curtains maybe. All bedrooms didn’t have curtains which was strange but also my fault because I didn’t ask if there was supposed to be any but then again I would assume there would be. But even then none of that bothered us. We all had an overall amazing experience and can’t wait to plan our next trip!

Winter trip
The home was well equipped in kitchen and extra bedding and towels. Some bedrooms were not thoroughly clean. Plenty of board games, DVDs, some gaming and entertainment provided. That was a plus. There’s central heat only in bottom floor. Heats only master, living area, main restroom and kitchen. There’s another room in downstairs with extra firm mattress no heat. Upstairs there’s a wooden heat source that works great. But no wood provided and you need to keep on adding wood all day and through night or all bedrooms will be cold. Our trip weather was in 30s degrees in day. Cabin outdated i don’t mind as long as all is clean. My only recommendation is replacing Living room couches should be replaced. You sit on with an old fabric smell. No trash containers on property the garbage containers are around the block. I would assume because of wildlife. Overall cabin had all we were looking for. They did have fans in most all bedrooms when you visit in summer time.
I am the kind of person who leaves honest reviews. I will go out of my way to leave a positive review to praise and recommend or a negative review if absolutely necessary. In this case I’d like to warn anyone from renting this property. We came here on Christmas vacation. Here we’re just a few problems we ran into:
- Black mold in one of the rooms
- dirty sheets with bright urine stains
- very uncomfortable beds
- clogged and dirty chimney unsuitable for use
- breaker tripping numerous times leaving us freezing at night
- everything is old and many things are broken (not aesthetically pleasing and kind of dangerous)
- the property keeper is kind of rude (spoke to Traci via email)
- hot water was hit or miss (never a good time in winter)
The cabin was portrayed very differently in pictures it looked pretty, clean and just overall welcoming however when we arrived that was not the case.
We had to wash all of our sheets, had to run to the store to buy stuff to clean the black mold off the ceiling. We didn’t expect to have to work when we arrived especially after how much we paid to rent the cabin. It was very disappointing. Rent at your own discretion !!
