This property is in a beautiful location and the home is gorgeous. We enjoyed the quiet and the deck view was stunning. The house itself is cozy and everything we needed was available for us. I do think the rules and the contract to sign was a little over the top but they didn't bother us as is it was common sense and normal respect of someone else's property.

Peaceful retreat

We had a lovely stay at this cottage! It’s quiet and secluded, with a beautiful view of the water and of deer wandering in the yard in the morning. Bed was very comfortable and kitchen well stocked. Not a far drive from downtown Port Angeles.

Comfortable Cozy Cottage

This charming cottage is well appointed, in a quiet location but convenient to shopping and restaurants, and close to Olympic National Park. We enjoyed the view and watching deer and hummingbirds in the morning before setting out to explore the park. It was great to return each evening after a long day to relax in the comfortable cottage. We hope to return again in the future!

Charming cottage

Great location for access to the recreational activities we had planned in Sequim and Olympic National Park. Quiet, clean, and very charming with a distant but gorgeous view of the Straits of Juan de Fuca. Next time we'll plan for a longer stay.

Cozy, Clean, and Conveniently Located

I recently stayed at this wonderful vacation property and had an absolutely delightful experience. The place was nice and cozy, clean, and had a stunning view of the water. The owner added a lovely touch by leaving a bottle of wine for us to enjoy, which made us feel very welcomed. The property was quiet and easy to find, and it was conveniently located. We had lots of fun exploring all the areas and truly appreciated the peaceful environment. Overall, it was a perfect getaway, and I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Quiet Retreat with a Great View

This lovely getaway was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped. The complimentary bottle of wine was a nice touch. The only drawback was how far it is from Port Angeles and Hurricane Ridge.

Wonderful cottage!

April's cottage was the perfect respite in a very trying time. The view from the deck/living room as we watched the fog creep away and slowly reveal Victoria was amazing. Everything you need had been thought of and provided, from condiments to measuring cups. We loved our stay so much we came back only a few weeks later.

Perfect home base for exploration of the Olympic peninsula

We had an amazing time here. The cottage is in a lovely, secluded location but is also very close to downtown Port Angeles. The view from the deck was beautiful and we enjoyed watching the deer, birds, and chipmunks. We stayed around the time of the new moon, so the night sky was great as well. The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed. The bed and linens were very comfortable and the bedroom was dark and quiet. It was nice to have such a cozy spot to return to after our long days hiking in Olympic National Park.

Pacific Northwest Trip

Great retreat with no surprises, the cottage was just as pictured and described. A beautiful setting with great views overlooking the straight. We enjoyed the daily visits of the deer who loved the apple trees. We were treated on our last night the visit of a bobcat stalking prey in the field. The cottage was well equiped and we felt so comfy and at home. We spent alot of time visiting the park and the location was perfect. Our hosts April and Jim were so nice and we really appreciated their hospitality and thoughtfulness.

The Most Romantic Weekend Getaway

After working from home 24/7 due to Covid-19, my husband and I needed a weekend getaway. This cottage was exactly what we needed. Nestled in a very quiet neighborhood on the hills of Port Angeles, it is the perfect location for a peaceful retreat. It is located at the end of a very quiet street, with surrounding houses very far apart. The views are incredible- you can actually see Vancouver Island (Canada) from the deck. The entire house had amenities that made us think- should we just move here? During the weekend we never had to turn on the TV or be on our phones. Instead we did yoga outside in the beautiful garden, we played monopoly, we made romantic dinners and bbqs, we read our favorite books out in the deck while basking in the sun, we had a spa night, and we even practiced a little bit of boxing outside. While we were out in the garden a deer came to visit us. The kitchen has absolutely everything you will need- just bring food. I even did a tapas night since they had a tiered platter. We didn't want to leave! Their gardens and orchard are the icing on the cake. This cottage was very well thought out- from the detailed decorations, to the dozens of books, boardgames, the gorgeoboardgame, the incredible views, all the amenities and even how it was built. It's a place that makes you feel like home. We have recommended the cottage to all of our friends and we will definitely come back. Thank you for letting us stay and extra few hours to enjoy the afternoon. Your communication and hosting was phenomenal.

About the host

Hosted by April Gillette

Host profile image
April & Jim are both retired, but not from life or achievements that still await them. In 2014, both of them graduated together with honors from Hancock College: she in Viticulture and Enology; he in business & accounting to name just a couple of his 6 degrees. Also in that year, their larger family decided to sell their historic150 year old Family ranch & vineyards outside of Tracy, California on Delta Island. April spearheaded exchanges on 4 new similar properties. Now some would buy these properties close to where they live. Not April. She decided to purchase various properties up & down the Pacific Northwest Coast: Bond Ranch Retreat, Sequim, WA, 15 minutes east; Mt. Pleasant Garden Ranch Cottage & Main Ranch House; the Duck Pond at Freshwater Bay & Elwha River Mouth, Port Angeles, WA,15 minutes west; & Casi Cielo Tuscan Vineyard in Forest Grove, OR, just 30 due west of Portland, & what gems each of them are !

April, an award winning former Nationally Certified Interior Designer from Los Angeles, California; & Jim, a former social worker & fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity, from Seattle, Washington; both met while working on the1995 Habitat for Humanity Jimmy Carter Work Project in Watts California when April lived in Compton. They were inseparable after that & married in 2001, 2 days before 9/11.

While searching for exchange properties, April fell in love with the Olympic Peninsula & the Rain Shadow around Sequim. Although both have lived in large cities most of their lives, about10 years ago they decided to leave the hustle & bustle of city life & move to the country. They moved to the Santa Rita Hills, which is known for their Pinot Noirs, in the Santa Ynez Valley, just 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara, California. But now they intend to move permanently to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington where the Mt. Pleasant Garden View Ranch Cottage & Main Ranch House are now. Back to Jim's roots, a simpler life & ever changing seasons & down to earth neighbors.

Why they chose this property

Mt. Pleasant Garden View Ranch is a spectacular property and a gem in the Olympic Peninsula overlooking Saltwater views and Canada. The main house is just perfect for us. The cottage was an added bonus as it was a successful 5 Star VRBO vacation rental for 9 years with over 70 glowing reviews. Since April and Jim have been in the vacation rental business for the past 7 years, it was a natural to have one on their own property where they will eventually retire to. But for now, we enjoy it throughout the year, as we continue to travel and run our businesses in 3 states. The former owners were impeccable and detailed with the way they designed and built this amazing property. You will agree once you stay, and see what a gem it really is.

What makes this property unique

The Mt. Pleasant Garden View Ranch is close to everything. Yet it is high enough up in the hills to seem like you are hundreds of miles away from life, however it is only 3.5 miles up the mountain. With that said, it is the perfect place to get away to and escape the hustle and bustle of the crazy hectic city. The Cottage is spacious, comfortable and elegantly appointed and has everything that you might need. Not to mention it has a dynamite panoramic view of the Strait of San Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island BC that will truly take your breath away. Yet it is still peaceful in a rural ranch setting and garden environment way up above it all. What more could you ask for in a vacation location?
