Excellent location minutes from Glacier

Charming cabin close to Glacier National Park. You really have your own space and its minutes from Going to the Sun Road. The lack of TV will help you enter into cabin life.

Great cabin!

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin has all of the necessities and many extra conveniences. The best part is that it's ~5 minutes from the West Glacier park entrance/village. Great views from the park across the street, as well!

Wonderful Cabin in the woods

This is a very comfortable and private cabin with views of the woods from every window. Its location is excellent, just a short drive to West Glacier Park entrance, the train station and food and gas options. The owners provided some excellent guides for hikes, restaurants and tips for our stay. Also the owners are very responsive to any questions or issues that might arise. We had an excellent time and hope to return in the future.

Outstanding Cabin

My family of 4 had a wonderful time at this property! It's so close to Glacier, so we didnt have to waste time in the car getting to our destinations. The park is so busy that you have to get there early! We were able to spread out & all sleep in different spots. The beds are comfortable. The screened in porch is perfect for playing cards & watching humming birds. The kitchen was full of everything we needed (except food of course) to make some meals & breakfasts. The laundry facilities were great and on site. The couple that rents a small cabin nearby were gone all the time and we didn't see them, except their cars coming home late evening. The cabin is private! It is set back from a rarely traveled road & when you are outside, you can't see any buildings or cars. Once in a while we heard a train, but it's not that close to startle you. We had several deer & hummingbirds come very close to the house. The balcony off the master bedroom was great for star gazing late at night. My suggestion is to add shades to the Master bedroom. The sun starts coming up at 430am & doesn't really set until after 10pm in the summer. Makes it difficult to get a lot of sleep. Staying here allowed us to enjoy the park & Flathead lake. We went to Kalispell for a movie one night & there are stores, coffee shops, restaurants, gas nearby!

Wonderful, clean and fantastically located! A few minutes from the west entrance of GNP.

We loved the cabin! So cozy! The location was great. Close to everything! We were able to explore GNP and also surrounding towns of Hungry Horse (Hungry Horse Dam is beautiful!) and Whitefish! What a wonderful vacation! Will definitely be back!

Excellent cabin so close to Glacier NP west entrance with everything you will need!!

Once we became familiar with this private cabin we found it to be true to the previous reviews. The communication with the property manager and owner was excellent! They promptly responded to questions, and the pre-arrival information and trail tips were very helpful. We found it clean, well supplied, and very cool for the warm week we called it home. The outdoor grill is brand new, the screened in porch is wonderful, and the upstairs suite provided that nice extra space for our family of five. The location was so convenient as we made numerous trips to Apgar and Lake McDonald. Overall it is very peaceful and we hardly noticed the renters in the small adjacent cabin nearby. The only things we would change would be the train whistle and slow internet connection, but the positive items reviewed above by far outweigh these things. No question we would stay again if given the opportunity. Go for it!!

Relaxing Gem in the Woods

Close to the entryway of Glacier National Park. We shopped for groceries in Kalispell before venturing out the West Glacier. The cabin has all the amenities you need for preparing meals. We were a party of four and had lots of personal space while gathering for meals with indoor and outdoor dining. There was even a grill outdoors! Internet was not high speed and it was not possible to stream the soccer world cup finals. You will wake up to the four toots of the train at night however, the proximity to the park and cabin amenities outweigh the sleeplessness.

Spotless Cabin Minutes from West Entrance of GNP

This was the vacation of a lifetime! Having never been out West, we felt completely taken care by the owners of this beautiful cabin. We had everything we needed for a family of five: two adults, and three young adults. We LOVED that the cabin was just a few minutes from the West entrance of Glacier National Park. After a full day of hiking, it was wonderful to have a short commute home. The cabin was spotless, well stocked, comfortable, and convenient. The instructions we received beforehand were invaluable. The screened-in porch was a delight, as the mosquitoes were definitely out to get us! The full size washer and dryer were great so we didn't have to pack dirty clothes to take home. I highly recommend this cabin, and hope to stay here again in the future.

Cabin is a "MUST STAY" if you are planning to go to Glacier area

We cannot say enough of how pleased we were with this cabin on our recent vacation to Glacier National Park. The location was 5 minutes from the train station (we arrived on the Empire Builder) and West Glacier entrance so getting to the park was a breeze. The cabin was stocked with EVERYTHING we possibly could have needed but was within a 20 minute drive to get anything we wanted. The cabin and grounds are clean and well maintained. The owners provide a virtual library of material covering everything from the history of Glacier and the surrounding area, what to do, what to see, and where to find it. Communication with the property manager was excellent and the information that we requested from him was given to us in a very timely manner. If you are planning a visit to this area, we highly recommend this property.

Beautiful, very clean cabin with great amenities. It felt like home!

The cabin exceeded our expectations. It was very clean, cozy and comfortable yet spacious enough for 4-6. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed and the w/d made it simple to pack light. Our favorite location was the screened in porch. What a wonderful place to spend the evening after a day of hiking. The owner provides paper towels, dish liquid, toilet paper, laundry detergent, soap and shampoo, so all you need are your clothes and food. The owner also has an extensive library on hiking and all things GNP; a fantastic resource. Excellent communication with both the owner and property manager made for an easy rental process. As others have written, the passing train whistles are loud and continue regularly through the night, but we got use to them. Otherwise the location of the cabin is perfect for the west entrance to GNP. We were here in August and while the days were warm, the cabin stayed cool by keeping the windows open in the evening and closing them in the morning. Overall this cabin is a great home for exploring GNP. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Home Away from Home

We had two couples stay at the cabin for a week of hiking in Glacier. Everything about this two story cabin was perfectly suited for our needs. Each floor has a bedroom and bathroom, so each couple had privacy. The kitchen was well equipped for the times we chose to have home-cooked meals. The living area and screened porch were very comfortable for relaxing and reading selections from the library of GNP/Montana books. The location was perfect for either hiking in GNP or heading the other direction toward Columbia Falls for groceries/supplies/cafes. The cabin sits on a private wooded property and we saw deer come by in the morning...yet we were still close by to all conveniences with West Glacier 5 minutes away. The process of reserving the cabin, making deposits/payments, etc. was all very smoothly handled by the property owner and they provided a lot of great information well in advance that helped us in planning our time there. We had absolutely no problems when we arrived, the cabin was clean and ready and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay from beginning to end. We would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to enjoy the great outdoors around GNP and we would love to stay there again on a return trip!

Great cabin and best location for Glacier

We had a great family trip to Glacier staying here. The cabin was a good size for our family (two adults, two teenagers) and was very well stocked. The grill and picnic area were really nice and we enjoyed being able to come back to the cabin and grill after a day in the park. The location was perfect- about a mile from the park entrance. We will certainly return here on future visits to Glacier.

Excellent Vacation Home!

My family and I had a fantastic time here. The location was very convenient to activities, restaurants and shops. The house was beautiful, cozy and very accommodating, with a lot of space, a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of linens, comfortable beds and an incredible library of books about Glacier Park. We spent most of our mornings and evenings hanging out in the beautiful, large screened-in front porch, which was a real treat. The property manager and owner were very friendly, easy to work with and extremely helpful with helping us plan our trip. I would highly recommend this home for a stay in Glacier Park!

Wonderful Experience

We would highly recommend this "wonderful cabin in the woods". It perfectly fit four adults(2 couples) and had all the amenities we could have wanted or needed for our week trip to Glacier. The cabin was very clean and the owner obviously has put a lot of time and energy into creating a fantastic getaway. The cabin was only minutes from the entrance of GNP but sitting on the enclosed front porch, we felt like we were completely secluded from the rest of the world. We saw deer, elk and a fox just having drinks on the porch(Ha, not at the same time). There is an extensive library covering plants, animals and trails through GNP. The owner even sent out ideas for our trip that we found to be very helpful. If you are looking for a place to stay in West Glacier, this would be the place. We will absolutely be returning next year!

About the host

Hosted by Shawn Marshall

Host profile image
Charles Ensign currently lives in the Portland Oregon area but spent much of his life in Montana. He brought his family to Glacier Park when they were young and his family has continued to come out year after year.

This 5 acre property was purchased by Charles 30+ years ago. At the time, there was only a small single room log cabin with no utilities and an outhouse 20 feet outside the front door. He pushed to get electricity/phone up Belton Stage Road and began the search for water on the property. Successful with both, and began the process of building a workshop/apartment (located next to the cabin) where he then had a place to live while working on the cabin. He carefully had the old cabin taken apart so that the logs could be preserved and used to build the new cabin. It went from a one room log cabin that was built in the 20's to what it is today. Charles was also one of the early residents on Belton Stage Road and was instrumental in getting electricity and phone services all up and down the road.

Why they chose this property

Spend 15 minutes on the screened in front porch any time of day and you will understand why Charles chose this wonderful little piece of property.

What makes this property unique

*There are two buildings next to each other on the property. The main cabin is where VRBO guest stay and a workshop/apartment where two year-long residents live. They are a delightful young couple that are both employed by Glacier Park in a variety of science related fields/projects. They are very friendly and do go out of their way to leave guest alone. Their apartment faces the opposite direction as does the main cabin but the parking area is shared by all. Please be advised that this is a shared property. They tend to be at work in the park during the week and off on many adventures during the weekend. Please respect their space and privacy as well.
