We were met by Judy and Michael when we arrived and they had delicious banana bread, fresh bananas and a papaya which we enjoyed for our breakfasts. They had all the amenities needed to sleep well, shower, cook/pack lunches, wonderful beach amenities, and some delicious restaurant recommendations. Judy and Mike are so very kind and caring and always available when we had any questions. We would love to stay again!!Mahalo!

We stayed at the Red Ginger Garden Studio 3 nights in February 2025. The studio is charming and well equipped and supplied. The back yard garden is beautiful and great place to start the day with a cup of Kona coffee and the sound of the birds. Michael and Judy were lovely hosts. Would love to come back again.

Enjoyed the garden, the intimacy, the ability to cook despite the semblance of a simple bedroom, the peaceful mood of the neighborhood, the kindness and warm welcome of the host.

Wonderful hosts who have thought of everything a guest might need. Banana bread was excellent. We would definitely stay here again.
Perfect place to stay for our first Hawaiian visit!
Judy and Michael were so friendly, welcoming, and quick to accommodate our needs. They provided snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, etc that was so helpful!
We loved our stay here for 3 nights! It’s very clean and comfortable and there are so many lovely touches - delicious banana bread, fresh fruit, snorkeling and beach equipment, etc. The location is perfect for going to downtown Kona. We will definitely be back here the next time we’re in Kona!
This was my second stay here and it was great. The suite was peaceful, clean, and had great views of the backyard. Location was great close to the beach. Our hosts were amazing as usual as well. Would love to come again in the future.
Judy & Michael are the best hosts. Beautiful property. Safe and quite place to rest your head. Looking forward to our next stay there. Close drive to eating, beach and town. Place was clean and the homemade banana bread was amazing along with all the nice fruit. The two small dogs are very friendly. Felt at home.
Judy and Michael are amazing host, our stay was exceptional. They had extra fruit to share and great suggestions for places to visit or stop by. These two are very humble and kind people. If you choose their property you will be pleasantly impressed.
I just am blown away by this place and Michael! All the reviews are spot on! I swear this guy is a wizard! I have never stayed at a place more perfect!

My solo stay at Michael and Judy's studio for 9 days during the Ironman World Championship could not have been better. It was a perfect home base for an active week: from the private back yard with fruit trees and a peek-a-boo view of the ocean, to the fresh banana bread, comfortable bed, kitchen with all the necessities, and easy access by car to town. Michael and Judy provided help and ideas for exploring Hawai'i, and were kind and friendly hosts. I would stay again!

A Transcendent Experience in Hawai'i
One of the highest complements that one could make when staying at someone else's home is that they made it feel like a home for you. A higher complement is to say that the experience granted a keen sense all of the wonderful aspects of a home, while leaving the less desirable aspects less keenly felt. My girlfriend and I stayed for six days in Michael and Judy's Ohana and our experience transcended that which warrants even a compliment even as high as this one. It was a special experience and one that highlighted and surrounded our experience on Hawai'i in a way that left an profound impression on both of us.
The studio is situated underneath Judy and Michael's house and, while there, you have free reign over the beautiful backyard and garden, though we typically preferred to reign from afar as God-kings from the lanai. The area is isolated enough from the main portion of the house that it seems like it exists separately. The studio itself is big enough for two people and is lacking in nothing. The kitchen has everything that one could want for making a simple meal and the rest of the room has essentially everything needed to make two human beings comfortable and happy. There is a peace and tranquility pervading the entire studio and the surroundings which serves to enhance that comfort and happiness immensely.
Michael and Judy are absolutely perfect hosts, a phrase that I do not use lightly. They have a wonderful grace of presence and are immensely generous in their actions. They were there to greet us when we arrived (as were there two extremely cute dogs), both in words and in writing (the dogs didn't write much I don't think and were a little young for anything but sentence fragments), they generously gifted us things that came from and clearly meant something to them (and were delicious!), they were extremely flexible and thoughtful for logistical issues that came up during the trip, and they looked after our every need in every sense while we were there. Our experience was what this service, homeaway, can do at its best: to serve and to enhance everyone's lives, both for the hosts and for the guests. I hope for others to experience the same as we did to understand what is possible when aloha is manifest.
We had a great time, and the hosts were super warm and welcoming. They have a ton of beach gear to borrow, and they made us delicious banana bread! Minutes away from beaches and downtown Kona.

Owners were very nice, friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and comfortable. No problems. Dogs are cute and friendly, too. Only negative was carrying luggage down the stairs to the room.
I really enjoyed my stay here! Judy and Michael were very kind, and the pups were adorable. Great location, beautiful yard, 10/10 would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Lovely setting and fantastic hosts! Room was comfortable, lovely and with everything you would need. Garden was such a fantastic extra bonus! Highly recommend this gem.
Michael and Judy were consummate hosts! The room was as pictured and came with home-y touches including towels, beach chairs, and bags for the beach. Additionally, they treated us like welcomed guests with fresh banana bread, sourdough, and fruits (including pineapples, avocados, papayas, and bananas!) from their yard. We had a lovely time chatting with them, while at the same time, being afforded privacy throughout our 5-night stay. It was the best of both worlds. We would 100% stay with them again when traveling back to the Big Island! Mahalo!
We enjoyed our stay in this happy place! The accommodations were clean, there was fresh fruit in a bowl and a mini-loaf of banana bread in the fridge waiting for us upon arrival. Judy and Michael gave us all the private space we needed but were also helpful when we had questions. There was all sorts of beach equipment available to us, a carport for covered parking, and a sitting area just outside our door for morning coffee and birdwatching.
We accidentally left some expensive chocolate covered macadamia nuts in the fridge. I contacted Micheal and he sent them to us immediately. That's going above and beyond!
Michael and Judy are wonderful hosts, very accommodating and responsive to every need. Very nice property and well situated. The efficiency has everything you will need and is quiet and by itself, overlooking a very nice garden. We highly recommend it!
