The Space: The Retreat has been lovingly converted to the highest standards, retaining the original exposed stone walls, black limestone floor and a sandstone fireplace. All fixtures and appliances are new, with every modern amenity to ensure your comfort.
Completely self-contained and private, The Retreat has its own parking (space for 2 cars), entrance, and private garden with a table and chairs for alfresco dining. You can enjoy the views, catch the sunlight and on a clear night, even watch the stars.
Relax and unwind on a comfy sofa, with a Samsung smart TV preloaded with Netflix, Amazon, BBC iPlayer and more. Or if you prefer some TV-free time, there’s plenty of board games and selection of books to enjoy.
Your bedroom has consciously been kept simple, free from blue light devices, with natural materials, including a super comfortable hemp mattress (hypoallergenic, breathable), along with Egyptian cotton bedding, all to support sound sleep. Awaken to the stunning views of the grounds, copper beech and oak trees, with rolling hills and fields beyond. You can also enjoy these views from your lounge and dining area, and from your own private garden.
The beautiful well-equipped kitchen is newly fitted and has all the appliances, including a dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, gas hob and electric oven, microwave, pans and utensils for self-catering.
The bathroom is also new, with a bathtub, overhead shower and sink with cabinet and mirror. A range of toiletries and thoughtful extras are included for your ease. Experience the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern-day living in an extremely peaceful and natural setting.
Guest Access: You have the whole property to yourselves. It is part of a larger house but there are no shared areas.
The Neighborhood: Located in a picturesque and tranquil village, The Retreat is a short walk to the village pub, close to several highly regarded gastropubs in neighbouring villages, and the pretty, historic market town of Somerton is only 3 miles from here. There are plenty of local walks, with the national trust property, Lytes Cary close by and The Newt, a stunning country estate with magnificent woodland and gardens a short drive away. Glastonbury, Wells and Sherborne are all within a 20-30 minutes’ drive, with the vibrant cities of Bath and Bristol within one hour. The Retreat offers easy access to both the north Somerset and south coastlines, including the Jurassic coast and the Southwest coastal path.

We provide all basics such as loo paper, washing up liquid, tea towels, bin bags etc; as well as some store cupboard essentials, tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper and some local tasty seasonal treats.
There are plenty of local walks from the property, in winter do bring walking boots or wellies, we will supply the maps! You will need a car here as we are not well served by public transport. A detailed guide is provided with lots of information about the area’s facilities, shops, walks, local and gastropubs and places of interest.
