About this property

Stylish Retreat Inside City Walls

A comfortable and stylish base, perfectly located just inside the city walls, for exploring the city. This newly renovated Victorian house has loads of charm and character, retaining many of its period features.

It's situated in peaceful Bishophill but just five minutes walk from some of York's best restaurants and cafes on York's famous 'Bishy' Road and Micklegate. It's the perfect place for families, small groups and couples to relax after a busy day making memories in the city.

This newly renovated Victorian terraced house is the perfect sanctuary from for the bustle of city. It's neutrally decorated in relaxing tones throughout with stylish pops of colour, giving it a modern yet understated feel.

Living
The cosy living room is a perfect place to unwind after a busy day. You can access all digital channels as well as being able to sign in to various streaming apps using the Fire TV remote.

Dining & Kitchen
The stylish kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need to make meals for your group. Whether it's your morning bacon and eggs or your evening meal, you'll find it's equipped with all the cookware, tableware and appliances (stove, oven, coffee machine, kettle toaster, fridge) you'll need.

The dining room is connected to the kitchen, meaning you can cook and chat and not feel cut off from the fun. It has an extendable oak table which comfortably seats six.

Bed & Bath
The house has 3 bedrooms, two upstairs and one downstairs (with en-suite) and a main bathroom upstairs. All of the beds are dressed with fresh hotel standard linens - incredibly soft white cotton bed sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases.
Complementary towels and toiletries are also provided with each stay.

Master Bedroom
The large master bedroom has a beautiful king-size brass bed frame with a super comfy mattress. The high ceilings of this Victorian house, give the feeling of space and calm, making for a great night's sleep. You'll also find a large wardrobe to hang your clothes and a chest of drawers.

Bedroom 2
The second bedroom has 2 single beds but also provides the option to be rearranged next to each other to create a King Size bed. You'll find a free-standing clothes rail to hang your clothes.

Bedroom 3
This bedroom is downstairs and has an en-suite bathroom with a toilet, sink and walk-in shower. The bed in this room is a small double, meaning it's slightly narrower than a standard double. This makes for a generous size bed for one person and a more snuggly size for two. This room also has its own smart TV. This room is perfect for guests who may have difficulty climbing stairs or prefer to be on the ground floor.

Main Bathroom
The spacious bathroom has a free-standing bath and a separate walk-in shower. Soothing bubble bath and shower gel are provided for you to luxuriate in this relaxing space.

Outside
To the back of the house is a small courtyard with garden furniture. This is a wonderfully peaceful spot for a drink in the evening before dinner. Attractive outdoor lighting also means you don't have to come inside once the sun goes down.

You've got access to the whole house - inside and the outside courtyard.

We're always available if you need anything during your stay. Whether it's a question about how to use the TV or restaurant recommendations, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Is there a better location to stay in York? Probably not.

Bishophill is one of the best neighbourhoods in the city due to it's proximity to the city centre. Even though it's so close (only 10 minutes walk) it's just off the beaten track and away from the noise and bustle.

The house is just inside York's medieval city walls. This means you can easily climb the nearby steps and walk on the walls around to Micklegate, or further on to York Railway Station and into the city.

Some of York's best restaurants and cafes are close by on Bishopthorpe 'Bishy' Road and Micklegate.

Bishopthorpe 'Bishy' Road is a perfect example of a local high street with a strong independent identity. It has everything you'll need during your stay including restaurants, cafes, pubs, bakeries, hairdressers, butchers and even a hardware store!

Micklegate leads you into the city centre and again has some great cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars, and independent shops. Partisan, Rattle Owl and Skosh are all highly recommended places to eat during your visit.

Check out the Guidebook for more recommendations.

Parking
The house is situated in a resident parking zone and it's usually easy to park directly outside the house. We can provide a visitor parking permit for one car for £5 per day until a max of 25 for 5 days or more. There is a public car park nearby (Nunnery Lane Carpark) if you have a 2nd car. (It's around £15-£20 per day)

Once you arrive, you shouldn't really need your car again unless you're visiting somewhere out of the city. The house is perfectly located for walking to all of York's attractions. The city centre is only 10 mins walk, and you've got Bishy Road (6 mins) and Micklegate (6 mins) practically on your doorstep, which have some of York's best restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs.

If you want to head to Designer Outlet for some shopping, you can get a Number 7 bus from Prices Lane (2 mins walk) which will take you straight there.

Five of us stayed here for a weekend break. The location was great, we were in the heart of the city in around 10 minutes. The property was clean and comfortable, the perfect place for a York break!

Quiet neighborhood experience that's close enough to the action

We had a great 2 night stay. The space is charming and comfortable. It was great to come back to a quiet, residential neighborhood. But it's close enough to everything you want to see that you can easily walk to it and do it. Highly recommended.

Style and convenience within York city walls

We had a lovely stay in this heritage property in York. Check-in was easy and all communication with the hosts was timely and friendly and helpful. The house is in a great location. We did not have a car and easily walked or took city buses to/from the train station and attractions. It was so close to the city centre that even my 5-year-old could walk from the house to the Minster and back without complaint. The home is clean, updated, and beautifully set up for a family or group of friends; on the main level are all the living spaces plus a comfortable double bedroom with full-ensuite and a view to the charming patio. Up the stairs is a primary bedroom with a queen bed, a bedroom with 2 single beds, and a full bathroom including a giant soaking tub and separate walk-in shower. The updates are thoughtful and retained a lot of the character of the home. I appreciated that tea, coffee, sugar, and cooking essentials like olive oil and salt & pepper were provided in the modern kitchen. I would absolutely recommend this rental and would stay here again next time we are in York. It was a delightful home away from home.
