Great spot for a weekend getaway. We had a lot of activities around the area planned, and the house was the perfect place to settle at at the end of the day. Clean, comfortable, easy to find. Great!
My team from my company were doing work in the area. This is a rare find - there aren't many 4 bed 2 bath places in Houghton Lake. We've stayed in several different places and this fit the bill well! Would definitely rent again. Thanks
Adorable house, we loved the decorations! The living room was set up perfectly for hanging out and visiting. The deck was great and the awning provided much needed shade during the hot summer days. No AC, but fans were provided and we also brought a couple extras. Walking distance to the lake and a local pub with music and karaoke. The neighbor was very friendly too!
Cozy, very clean, well stocked house. We appreciated extra fans to help keep the house cool, especially fans for inside each bedroom window. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
We needed some extra beds because we had a bunch of people coming to the lake house in Houghton Lake Heights. This house was perfect. Beds were nice, and the common areas have plenty of space to hang out. Would definitely stay there again!
The property is nothing like it is advertised. The exterior of the property is as shown however the interior of the property is unsafe, is in violation of numerous building codes, OSHA safety standards, is infested with Fly’s, Box Elders, and Spiders.
The main rear entrance stairwell is uneven and the stairs meet the door. Code/Safety violations. Underneath two layers of carpet you can feel a rotted floor beneath. On to the kitchen, you look up to a water-stained ceiling with a dishwasher that is improperly installed. The dining and main living area you see a poorly lit area with a sagging ceiling. The floor has varying levels, one can easily stumble. The front bedroom has a partial carpet in the doorway loosely covering exposed nails sticking up through the floor. The downstairs bath has a water filter exposed and not anchored with an electrical receptacle missing a cover below. Then you feel the heat from a hot water heater behind a screen. The stair treads are not securely fastened, against code, finished or safe. The hand rail does not mee code and the clearance from the top of stair tread to the archway height is well less than 6 feet. The bedrooms are poorly rehabilitated. Drywall tape is bubbling off the ceiling seams. In the hallway you will see an unfinished railing and floor. The floor has several places where there are metal plates screwed down and ground as well as it is horribly uneven and towards the bedroom is a stumble hazard. Where shoes while in this house at all times. The bathroom on the second floor has been remodeled by something much less than a professional but does appear to be the best room in the house. Also, there is one heat register on the second floor in the bathroom. Bring lots of blankets if you stay when it cold. The craftmanship in this house is rudimentary at best and the structure is not fit for public safe use. Don’t even ask about furnishing or internet both are terrible and the owner makes excuses. For this size house in good condition, it would be worth $,$$$ per week. In its current condition I would consider the owners irresponsible and greedy at best. Keep your family safe and stay away.

Thank you for the review and inspection. Your code knowledge is good with exception that current codes do not apply to a nearly 100 year old home. Additionally, OSHA offers no guidance for residential homes.
For future guest reading this, please read the other reviews as well. Read the home’s description. Look at the photos and then decide if you would like to stay in this home. The home is not new, nor is it advertised as new or renovated. I promise a clean and safe home ready for your stay. I cannot promise the local internet provider, or any utility provider, will not have an outage during your stay as this guest experienced. I also promise to be available to you, as I was available to this guest. We texted over 70 times in a 7 day stay. At no time through any of these communication did the guest bring up unsafe or unfit conditions. Again the home is not new, we are working on updating finishes throughout, we are not done nor advertise these claims.
We welcome any guests that appreciates having 4 clean bedrooms, 2 clean full size bathrooms, a large clean kitchen, all in a home close to all that the Houghton Lake Area has to offer.
Enjoy your stay in the area whether you decide to book here or in another home in the area.
Thank you for reading and considering our home.
This was a great place for our girls weekend.
There were plenty of sleeping arrangement options. The property was clean and well maintained and has nice fisherman decor. The owner was very friendly and easy to get ahold of with questions. The kitchen was stocked with what you need to stay in and cook. I Would recommend this property to anyone looking to visit the area.
Loved this visit!
The place was very charming and easy to find! The owner was very nice throughout it all and kept in contact every time I contacted him.
The house was very well stocked and VERY clean. This was my husband’s first experience with an air B&B and he was pleasantly surprised!
Thank you!!!
I may come back to stay to see the renovations finished. It is a little "rustic" but adequately furnished with 1970's to 2021 furnishings. It was a decent place to lay our heads for a couple nights. Brian is a nice host to work with which is very important to me.
House is clean and cozy. 5 adults stayed for spouse's 40th birthday. Owner is super nice and was easy to communicate with, responded to all questions/text messages within minutes. Very comfortable. Only suggestion is more towels and there were no washcloths/hand towels. There is no A/C, but putting the fans in the windows made it really comfortable and we were never too warm even on 90 degree days. Would highly recommend this property.
Very nice stay! Very clean, great communication with the owners, and cute house!
We rented this location for a family reunion in the area, and the 4 bedrooms was perfect! The kitchen was nice and clean, the bathrooms (2) looked brand new, and it was a nice layout!
We had three generations for a family Up North getaway. The house was clean and comfortable, had cool cottage style decorations. We had everything we needed. Quiet neighborhood with the community beach nearby. Just bring your water shoes for the rocks! Hot days at the beach and shopping for rainy ones. Or games at the house. Go carts, putt putt, bounce house on cooler days. Plenty to do. Easy communication with Brian from start to finish. An enjoyable week.
We were four older guys traveling for a golf tournament. We needed four separate beds and we got that plus four separate bedrooms. Everything worked well so it was just what we needed. We were only there in the evening and it was very quiet. The lake was very close but we never went there. The house worked great for us.
