This vrbo is in a great location, in a lovely neighborhood close to Pearl Street. Highlights were the nicely renovated space, great shower, comfortable furnishings and proximity to hiking into the Boulder foothills. The owners were friendly and accommodating.

WINTER IN BOULDER

My review of this property is excellent. We found it clean, quiet and very comfortable - especially the bed. Richard was great to work with. I could not believe how easy it was to make the reservation and have everything go off without a hitch. We were even able to bring our dog Milo !

Lovely Property in Beautiful Neighborhood

We had a great visit. The apartment is lovely, comfortable, and well stocked. Hosts are a gracious couple who are fully available without any hovering. Private patio is a great perk on nice evenings. Home is easily accessible to restaurants, shopping district and public transit but still very peaceful. Highly recommend.

Great spot to stay in Boulder

Cool vibe, charming and extraordinarily accommodating hosts. This property checks all the minimal expectation boxes, and goes far far beyond. The kitchen/family room area is very cool, the bed and in fact all accommodations are very comfortable. The space is perfect. It's highly walkable to Pearl Street. Just loved it! And again, the hosts professional, thoughtful, responsive and are just wonderful!

Great location, but "5-Star" is a stretch

Great location to explore Boulder and lots of on-street parking, which helped because we visited on a very busy weekend. The place was not at all spotless (nor was the extra bedding), which begs the question of these hefty cleaning fees. Felt private (no in-person communication with upstairs owners) and we appreciated the laundry. BUT, the huge double fridge in the kitchen hummed ceaselessly, and the stairs to the owner's upstairs home created a sense of feeling like we were just staying in their basement rather than in a separate guest suite. Overall, I'd say overpriced for what it is, but they're banking on the location to get you to book it at this price-point.

Not what it seems

It was a clean and welcoming environment. But we did not see that it was a rental space that is also shared with the owners. They come and go from the rental as they wish while renters are there. So privacy is limited to almost non existent. The bedroom area is in the front of the rental and has no complete privacy or way to close it off

Perfect Boulder neighborhood

We loved our stay at this property for graduation weekend at CU. The location was perfect for Pearl St. access, and for just strolling around the Boulder area. We had three adults, and plenty of space, with two parallel rooms. You enter into the main bedroom, sleeping area, but it has a nice sitting area/ couch at the far end. The other space in this basement apartment is another small living area with a fold out couch and dining table. Kelly and Richard were great hosts, and responded to any of our requests quickly. Really enjoyed the outdoor sitting area for morning coffee (the weather was perfect for our long weekend). Bathroom had good space and plenty of hot water for the shower.

Great Location. Great Hosts. Great Atmosmosphere

The guest residence has spectacular design detail. It was very inviting and relaxing. We rented it for two nights. One night before we moved our freshman daughter into CU and one night after. It was perfect for the three of us to spend time together. The sitting area was conducive to unwinding and conversation. You almost did not want to leave. But the location was excellent. My wife and I woke each morning and walked 2.5 blocks to The Laughing Goat for 6:00 am coffee. On our last night, we walked over to Pearl Street and had plenty of restaurants from which to choose. Richard and his wife were gracious and welcoming hosts. If there is availability, we will try to stay there again when visiting Boulder.

Good Overall

I'd rate different aspects of our stay differently. The homeowners, Dr. Kelly and Richard, get a full 5 stars. They were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. The location also gets 5 stars. It was so convenient to Pearl Street and the amazing downtown area. The first impression of the private patio and stairs to the suite get 3 stars. Both the furniture and the stairwell needed to be swept and cleaned off. The living spaces were nice and more than adequate for our stay. While the bathroom was nice, the Venetian plaster doesn't allow for easy clean-up like a high gloss paint would. There were make-up marks and toothpaste on the walls near the sink. When the lights were turned up in the living spaces, they were dimmable, they flickered. Not sure if the bulbs aren't dimmable but it was a bit like subtle strobe lights. The sleeper sofa springs were broken making it unusable, which was disappointing. We appreciated that they offered different soaps for the bathroom and kitchen but the dish soap pump was broken so just having just a small bottle of dish soap would be handier. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here but would recommend the few small tweaks mentioned above.

Great stay. Close to everything.

We typically have a few main criteria when picking a place to stay in Boulder. We don’t spend a lot of time indoors when we’re here. We like to be able to quickly get to hiking and then be able walk to dining and shopping. Pearl Street is an easy 3-4 minute walk. The stay at the house included street parking right in front, so there was never a need to drive to Pearl and pay to park. The bed and pillows were comfortable and just as pictured. There is a nice sitting area outside to enjoy the weather. Numerous grocery stores and shopping nearby. Almost every hike was a 15 minute drive from the house which was perfect. The space has a nice indoor sitting area near the bed and fireplace and a large closet with dresser for your clothes. The bathroom is exactly as pictured and the shower had good water pressure. The unit has a free standing air conditioner in the suite which works perfectly for the space. We were here at the end of summer so it wasn’t cool enough to keep windows open yet. There was also a small turbo fan for those who need white noise. A few items of note 1) the suite is down a flight of stairs, so if you have any issues with stairs this may not work for you; 2) as stated, the suite is completely private, however there is a shared area where the washer and dryer are, that being said, we never bumped into the owners in the shared area; 3) there is a TV, located in the 2nd sitting room off of the kitchen area. Overall, great stay!

Richard and I are only the fourth owners of this historic Boulder home in 125 years. We have been on VRBO for 16 years, have hosted over 2000 guests, (Over 4 booking channels), and are the most-reviewed property in all of Boulder. Please be aware of rookie hosts.

The home has been carefully restored and we are proud to be the next generation to carry the torch. Richard is a small business owner and I am a Doctor. The main part of the home is our primary residence, with the guest suite being completely separate. You will have your own private entrance, bath, fireplace, and kitchenette. If you have not already seen our video, check it out...

We look forward to having you as guests !!
Dr. Kelly & Richard

Why they chose this property

Location, location, location...

The home is our primary residence. Richard bought the property in September of 2006, just after the renovation. Every home flipper in town had looked at it until the previous owner pulled the trigger and hired the best craftsmen and tradesmen in town for a top-to-bottom gut renovation.

Richard was in town after an Outward Bound excursion and discovered the home while riding a bike through the historic district. It came down to: If I don't buy this house, I am going to regret it.

So he bought it and moved from Minnesota.

What makes this property unique

Mapleton @ 17th Street. The location cannot be beat. You will be right in the heart of Downtown Boulder and be able to walk to everything. Five Star Guest Suite is not near Downtown Boulder. We are Downtown Boulder...

As well, the guest suite is very private and comfortable. The architect designed it to feel like a suite in a Five Star hotel with all the amenities you would expect. Beautiful artwork & furniture. Fine linens & Towels. Washer & dryer. The home is located in a very quiet neighborhood in the historic district 4 doors down for the 'Mork & Mindy' house.
