Stunning log home, as featured in Log Home Living Magazine, is nestled in the bluffs, with breathtaking views of Lake Pepin from every room in the house, and from the large deck. The serenity and cozy feeling is accentuated from the surrounding 40 acres of private majestic hard wood forest. 660 foot of lake frontage, easily accessible from the lake (but not from cottage up in bluffs), with variable sandy beach depending on the season. Located 13 miles downriver of Red Wing, near the Wisconsin Villages of Maiden Rock, Stockholm and Pepin. Just 60 minutes from Minneapolis/St. Paul international airport.

Wow, what a great cottage. It was so charming, one of a kind with beautiful views. Each room was an experience and we didn’t want to leave. The hot tub and deck were highlights. We will definitely be returning!

Surreal location

Perfect spot for us, two couples and an English setter. Very clean, crazy cool view, and so incredibly private. Lots to see and do within 30 or so minutes. Great amenities. Really enjoyed the screened room downstairs, the architecture, and I’ll say it again - the view.

Maiden Rock Weekend

Beautiful place. The view overlooking Lake Pepin was amazing, you’ll see barges, tankers and other boats. Great for bird watching. Great layout to the spot. Host was very generous and left a bottle of wine for us. Would stay again.

Great Cabin!

We enjoyed our stay at the Lion Downe Cottage! The views are amazing and the vibes inside the cottage are warm and cozy. The hosts were excellent and very responsive. It is essentially just one large room, so definitely bring your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper!

Phenomenal!!!

We had an 8 party girls weekend and I must say this place was spectacular! Plenty of places to sleep, enough bathrooms to go around, kitchen and dining area were a hit for our large group. The view overlooking the river; speechless. Of course the hot tub was a huge hit. We are all very pleased with the property and the communication with the owners was beyond exceptional! Will definitely keep this place favorited in my listings!

Winter Escape

This was our fourth time staying at Lion Downe and it was excellent as always. This year, due to the unseasonably warm weather, we got to try out some of the amazing hiking trails in Red Wing. The log cabin is unique and that is exactly what we look for in a vacation rental. The hot tub views overlooking Lake Pepin are second to none. The cabin was clean and kitchen fully stocked for our fancy meal making. Communication with the owners is prompt and they are very helpful if needed.

Our “Seven Sisters” Getaway

We (7 best friends) so thoroughly enjoyed the gorgeous cottage with the billion-dollar view!!! Everything - from the charm, quality, and decor of the cottage, to the extremely comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, extra towels, board games and books, and tons of cozy lap blankies, was absolutely TOP NOTCH. And the best part? Hot-tubbing under the infinite, sparkling stars. Some of us had never seen so many stars in our lives. What a treasure of a place. Unique and Wonderful!

This is a beautiful location and a very unique home that has everything you need. There were a few very minor maintenance items, but nothing that impacted our stay or complete enjoyment of the home. We enjoyed the hot tub every morning, the house stayed cool during the hottest days of the summer, and there were plenty of different sleeping options and places to get away to, if needed. There were plenty of towels, all the kitchen equipment you need, reliable Internet, lots of good seating, and the property is incredibly private and quiet. It was a great escape from the city with friends, and we visited the towns of Red Wing, Wabasha, Pepin, and Stockholm to enhance our time. The owners were responsive and provide everything you need through the VRBO site. We will definitely consider staying here again!

Senior golf group

Some parts were excellent, others need work. Noticed several maintenance issues and some cleaning issues. For example, the hot tub had dirt in the bottom, likely from a previous customer, and the water in it appeared a greenish color. It’s probably a fine location for a couple families, but we were a group of 8 seniors on a golfing trip, so the sleeping arrangements weren’t really good. Probably somewhat our fault, but the pictures made it difficult to see that. The owner was very responsive to our overall issues.

Beautiful Location, Communicative Hosts, experienced some bug Issues.

Beautiful location with a gorgeous view of the river. The cabin has many nice amenities. They even left us a gift of local cider and wine! Kitchen was stocked with everything needed to cook your own meals during your stay. Fireplace was nice and cozy for the evenings. Hosts were communicative. Hot tub was not heating up one evening but hosts got back to us right away with suggestions on how to resolve the issue. We forgot an item at the cabin and the hosts were kind enough to mail it back to us no charge. The only reason I rated a 3 of 5 was due to an issue we experienced with one of the beds. A friend who stayed in one of the loft beds woke up with numerous bites all over her body. She found a bug that appeared to be a bed bug. We immediately reported it to the host and all guests checked their homes to see if it could have been brought in. Unfortunately, it appears to have originated from the cabin . Host advised they would have their pest control come out to investigate and address it. Upon request, they provided a 50% refund and apologized for the inconvenience. Had it not been for the bugs, would have rated 5 stars. Thanks!

Dream Getaway!

Such an amazing stay! We absolutely loved sitting out enjoying the view. The hot tub, sunroom and deck chairs were fabulous for enjoying the view. There were not any listed sunroom photos but it was my absolute favorite room with beautiful rock wall and furniture that was so fairy tale like. It just felt like a castle room to me. The whole place was so magical with the rounded doors the wood beams and wood used throughout the cottage. The path going to the house and every room was just so fun for me and the group. It was a fantastic experience. The only negatives would be that the stairs for both upstairs and downstairs were a little steep/narrow and not the best for the 83 year old in the group. The adventure layout of the beds worked for the group as everyone was able to get a bed that fitted their needs. The kids loved the ladder up to two of the beds and I had a bed that worked for me. The beds were all very comfortable. It worked as the main group was fine with going to bed and waking up at the same time as it is an open area. It made it more of a group experience though and not necessarily a negative thing that the main area is open concept. The stairs would be fine but with one person at 83 with some health issues I was nervous for him every time on the stairs. The majority of the house was just more magical in person then the photos can fully capture. Both the shower are small and bathroom are a little dated but just a spectacular experience overall.

This is a marvelous, unique cottage. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Will definitely book again.Just a few notes to be sure of before you book.1. The pathway could be difficult for any one with difficulty walking. The walkway is stone and is uneven in places. If you need a flat surface for walking the walkway maybe not work for you There are lots of great wagons to haul stuff down to the property.2. There are areas of the walkway that are not well lit. Have your phone flashlight on if you come in the dark.3. There is the ambience of trains coming through and the sounds of gun shots from hunters. We loved it! 4. Most of the sleeping rooms are in the lofted area. Beautiful, absolutely amazing. Those sensitive to noises at night will need earplugs.5. The lofts were a hit with the teens in our family.6. We also enjoyed the hot tub and 4 season porch. The kitchen and dining table are great for a large group. 7. There's plenty of parking.8. This was a great experience and we will book again. Be certain this fits your needs if mobility is an issue or if you need ansolute quiet at night.The master suite was so comfortable with a large en suite bathroom.The whole cottage is impeccably clean and we'll stocked.
