About this property
Historic Farmhouse - Spacious Country Getaway
“The Blue House” is the peaceful country escape you’ve been dreaming of.
Easily accommodating up to 10 guests, The Blue House is a lovingly restored four season country retreat with modern amenities (think: Wifi, Netflix, and AC) that remains true to the original character and charm of this century farmhouse (think: wood burning kitchen stove, original hardwood floors, and exposed Douglas fir ceiling beams).
With the proximity to Prince Edward County (only 30 minutes via ferry) and the solitude of country life, treat yourself to the best of both worlds as you enjoy the bustle of PEC in the day, then come home to relax by the fire (indoor and outdoor), gather at the farmhouse table in the open concept kitchen and dining room with a puzzle or board game, bird watch and read in the light-filled sunroom, or kick back with a glass of wine listening to a couple of records in the den.
After enjoying a restful night in one of our three bedrooms (or our King and Queen 2-bed suite) - consider starting the day slowly with coffee, taking in the pastoral views from three separate living spaces, or get right to the pancake making in our spacious and fully renovated kitchen.
THE SPACE
KITCHEN: The Blue House kitchen is fully equipped, offering everything you need to create a slow-simmering family feast, intimate dinner for two, or casual afternoon BBQ. The farmhouse table seats 10-12 people comfortably, or dine al fresco enjoying our summertime screened in porch or circle of Muskoka chairs.
BEDROOMS: Listen to the silence as you drift away in one of our four fully furnished (and very comfortable) bedrooms:
South Room - King
West Room 1- Queen
West Room 2- Double
North Suite - King + Queen, with a fully reno’d en suite including walk in wet-room style shower
BATHROOMS: There are two beautiful bathrooms at The Blue House, both spacious and located on the upstairs floor. The first features an original pedestal tub (with a shower), and laundry for longer stays, and the second features a brand new walk-in and wet room-style shower to complete your restful retreat.
DEN: Located just off the kitchen, the den is set up for fun, with a foosball table, board and card games, and record player (with some of our favourite albums), as well as a few guitars, if you’re feeling inspired. We love the conversations that happen here, and the comfy couch for reading.
FIRESIDE ROOM: We might be biased, but this great room is perfect for fireside movies and lounging. In the summer you can choose to enjoy the twilight skies from the screened in porch or watch the setting sun from the glass enclosed western sunroom.
SUNROOM: .A private library and music room with south windows offers a quiet retreat for reading and casual conversations.
SURROUNDING AREA
If “relaxing” means “exploring” to you, you’ll love the easy access to the entrance of the Cataraqui Trail, which is just around the corner, and offers the opportunity for long hikes or leisurely walks all year long, in addition to many winter activities including snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.
There are three popular golf courses within a 10-15 minute drive: Camden Braes, Briar Fox Golf Club and Loyalist Golf Club. A Stone’s Throw Disc Golf course is right around the corner, fun for all ages.
There are three fantastic local conservation areas, be sure to check them out during your stay at the Farmhouse: Vanderwater Conservation Area, HR Frink Conservation Area and Price Conservation Area.
STONE MILLS
The picturesque location of the Farmhouse provides a ready made adventure just outside the front door. Head-out for a lovely walk or bike ride, in any direction.
You can be in the heart of Prince Edward County in 35 minutes, for a day of exploration and adventure. Take the Glenora Ferry to Picton, which operates year round. Or if taking the offbeat path is more your style, visit Bath for a great local coffee, or visit MacKinnon Brothers Brewery for a local beer. Excellent for day trips to many picturesque local towns Bath, Tamworth, Kingston, Belleville.
Bon Echo Provincial Park provides opportunities to access great biking, birding, boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, hiking and natural heritage education.
