Welcome to our gorgeous Whananaki bach - a relaxed coastal cottage with spectacular sea and estuary views, surrounded by the peaceful rural charm of Whananaki.

Set in an elevated position, the bach looks out across the ocean, coastline, rolling green hills and Whananaki estuary. You can enjoy sea views from the main living areas, kitchen, deck and two of the bedrooms, while the third bedroom looks out over the estuary.

The property is surrounded by farmland, so you’ll often see cows grazing in the neighbouring paddocks. We love the mix of sea views, estuary outlook and rural feel - it makes the bach feel peaceful, spacious and genuinely away from it all.

The beach and estuary are within walking distance, so you can wander down for a swim.

This is a classic Kiwi bach rather than a luxury home. It has a simple, comfortable, lived-in feel, with original features such as cork flooring, but it is well set up for an easy holiday. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher and induction hob and there’s a gas BBQ outside.

There is a large lawn for playing games on the grass, a sunny deck for relaxing with a book or evening drink, and a collection of board games, books and puzzles for slower days. Guests are also welcome to use the kayaks during their stay.

It is the perfect spot for swimming, kayaking, walking, exploring the estuary, reading on the deck or simply sitting back and taking in the changing light over the water.

The space

The bach is designed for relaxed coastal living.

The open-plan living area, kitchen and deck all make the most of the beautiful sea views, creating an easy space to gather, cook, eat and unwind.

Two bedrooms have amazing sea views, while the third bedroom has beautiful estuary views. The back garden also looks out across the estuary and gives you plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors.

The kitchen is well equipped for holiday cooking, with an induction hob, dishwasher and everything you need to prepare meals during your stay.

Please note that this is a traditional bach/cottage, so it is comfortable and practical rather than polished or high-end. It is ideal for guests who love incredible views, a peaceful coastal setting, a rural outlook and the charm of a genuine Kiwi bach.

Guests are welcome to use the kayaks and garden games plus all the board games and puzzles during their stay. Other privately stored owner equipment is locked in the shed and is not included.

Well-behaved, house-trained dogs may be considered on request. Please let us know about your dog before booking.

The area

Whananaki is one of Northland’s special coastal spots, with beautiful beaches, estuary walks, swimming, kayaking, fishing and scenic places to explore nearby.

There is also a stunning biking trail from the general store to Sandy Bay along a coastal track. About 25km return.

This is a wonderful base for a peaceful beach escape, a family holiday, or a quiet weekend away surrounded by sea, sky, farmland and nature.
