Bald Head Island had a rare heavy wind pattern for sevreal days that created shoaling at the entrance to the island marina. There was essentially a sandbar that had developed, making the marina entrance impassable by the ferries during at low tides. The winds were too high for dredging to begin immediately, so there were some ferry delays. When I emailed the arrival and access information a few days before your arrival, I did include a long paragraph at the beginning of the email describing the shoaling and information regarding possible ferry delays. I also attached to the email a list of private water taxis available should you not want your travel to be disrupted by ferry delays. Regarding the trash collection, the shoaling at the marina entrance also prohibited the barge from entering the marina for several days. The garbage trucks are brought over on the barge Tuesdays and Fridays. When you arrived Saturday, they had been unable to come over on the barge the day before. I tried to provide updates as we homeowners were learning about the dredging process. Fortunately they were able to start dredging all through the night Sunday and Monday. I did provide a text update on Tuesday to informing that the barge had been able to bring the garbage trucks over and that they may or may not get to our cottage, but they planned on working very late into the evening to catch up on island trash collection. You did confirm that the trash was picked up Wednesday, so very thankful for how hard the garbage collectors were working. We did enjoy hosting you, and hopefully you otherwise enjoyed your stay despite an unprecedented weather event!

A lovely, comfortable cottage!

Nice cottage near the beach

This is a nicely done smaller cottage, and the owner is very helpful and responsive. Would highly recommend for 1 - 3 people. Very clean, short walk to the Conservancy, Shoals Club and the beach.

We love this part of BHI!

The location is terrific - close to the conservancy and to the shoals. The property is clean and comfortable. It was well-equipped, which made for a great stay!

Such a cute house! Loved the quiet and beautiful location. Worked great for our family of 4 (two boys 3 & 5). Was great purchasing a temp membership for BHI Club aka kid paradise. Would absolutely stay again!

The house is absolutely beautiful and located in a perfect spot. Close to East Beach beach access 39 or 42 as well as South Beach access 35 for your choosing to escape very windy days where wind is crazy on one side of the island but just a breeze on the other. The Host was great, generous and understanding with accomodations making my bday weekend smooth, hassle free and convenient to all of the guests. I would definately stay there again and highly recomend the place to other families. We enjoyed the golf cart as well bicycles that come with the house. Even my 80 yr father biked around a few times during our stay :-). Something about the island, the sun and breeze that makes you feel energized and 10 yrs younger :-)
