Mt Snow for families! Sprawling home, great views, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking

Welcome to Stonehedge Farm - This huge, beautiful, antique farmhouse sits on top of 10 acres of rolling hills overlooking the peaceful southern Vermont mountains. The sprawling home was built in 1840 and operated as family farm for generations. The gorgeous property retains that original charm while offering updated amenities for comfort and ease of living and proximity to all the fun activities of southern Vermont and the northern Berkshires. We welcome guests to enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the fall foliage from our deck; get cozy by the fireplace after a day of skiing or After snowmobiling on the VAST trail system that surround the home; enjoy cooking a meal in our well-equipped large country kitchen with all new appliances; enjoy the gorgeous lakes or the surrounding area for swimming and boating, or just relax in the comfort of our high quality beds looking out over the rolling hills and meadows behind the house.

The space
This beautiful post and beam home enjoys amazing views overlooking the surrounding hills, sunsets and sunrises from either side of the house, easy access to skiing, and much more. Inside, you'll find an open and elegant living space featuring exposed post and beam ceilings, burnished floors, and an open fireplace in the central living room. The full kitchen is spacious and charming, with lustrous cabinetry, a tiled center prep island, and plenty of counter space. There are two dining areas including a bright breakfast nook with seating for 4-6 offering lovely views of the rolling hills the other more formal dining room with seating for eight.

The spacious home offers over 4,500 feet of living that is both cozy and spread out, giving you many different areas to relax and enjoy. There are seven bedrooms, four full baths, and one half-bath, making it the perfect retreat for large families or multi-family gatherings. On the first floor, two bedrooms each have queen-size beds and one with a twin size day bed and there are three full-size baths accompanying them. The second floor boasts the other four bedrooms: the first bedroom has a queen-size bed, the second has two twins (or a king), the third a queen, and the fourth room has a queen-size bed as well. The second floor also has a full-size bathroom as well as a half-bath. There are two sets of stairs to the second floor. One leads to 3 bedrooms and a full bathroom and the other to a secluded private queen bedroom suite with a half-bath and small hallway that is completely separate from the other second floor rooms.

Common areas include two dining areas: a spacious living room with working fireplace; a family room with foosball table and air hockey; a private office with large desk, and a quiet sitting area/reading room. This bright home offers skylights in the kitchen and one of the second floor bathrooms.

The living room leads out to a large deck overlooking the hills and fields behind the house. The deck has ample room for cookouts on the grill and relaxing in the sun. Beyond the deck there is a picturesque fire-pit where guests can enjoy family campfire time!

The location is both secluded but accessible. On a quiet paved road, there are hiking, cross country skiing and VAST trails all within walking distance of the house. A short drive away you will have access to the trails of Molly Stark State Park as well as Haystack Mountain. Skiing is 25 minutes north at Mount Snow. In the summer there are several very nearby lakes for swimming, fishing and boating. The best of the northern Berkshires including MASS MoCA is under 45 minutes away.

Loved your house, thank you!
Really enjoyed our stay. Very clean well stocked and organized. It was a cold VT weekend but we were nice and snugly warm, loved the fireplace insert and all the seating for hanging out reading and playing games all together, it was my husband myself and five high school/college aged kids. It was not far from Mt Snow for skiing. Would love to come back in the future. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

Family Ski trip 2024!
This was our 2nd year at this cozy, comfortable, spacious and private home. Our family was able to spread out, be together and also private. Under 1/2 hr drive to Mt Snow. Close enough to food shopping. We were able to bring our dogs, and the property was large. Thanks again for the use of your home. We made wonderful memories. We had 4 generations on this trip. From an 81yr old grandma, to a 1 yr old great-granddaughter. Would definitely return.

Host profile image
We are two sisters, Marah and Liz, with childhood roots in Vermont and have returned with our four children and husbands to create this gorgeous family home where we look forward to welcoming other families who want to enjoy the beauty of southern Vermont. We both live in Brooklyn, NY within walking distance of each other. Liz is a family practice physician in Brooklyn married to an architect. Marah is a government official married to an entertainment attorney. We each have two children and "share" one large, fluffy, happy dog.

Why they chose this property

For years we have enjoyed summers in Vermont with our father at his small house in northern Vermont. Our kids have spent summers exploring the woods behind their grandfather's house. For many years we have wanted to create a family home where we can all gather comfortably, where our kids who are being raised in NYC can explore and enjoy the outdoors the way we did when we were children. We needed something closer to NYC with plenty of space to spread out and bring friends. After years of looking for the perfect space in the perfect location, we found Stonehedge Farm. We fell in love with this amazing property the moment we walked through the door. The sprawling floor plan has plenty of space and lots of room for large families or groups of friends to both spread out and to come together. The multiple common areas offer quiet space, play space and group space. The kids can be loud in the family room, some adults can be playing music or watching a game in the main living room in front of the fire, while others can be quietly reading in the back sitting room. The house feels secluded and cozy, but is on a paved road so it's never hard to access no matter what the weather. The rooms are cozy and bright, and there are beautiful views from every room. We both wake up each day in this house in disbelief that we found the property of our dreams.

What makes this property unique

This property is easily accessible to both Boston and New York City in under 4 hours. The activities in this area are year round with lakes, mountains for hiking and skiing, snow boarding, hunting, and lovely restaurants and shops in Wilmington. And while you feel secluded on the farm, you are close to everything you could want in town, up at the ski mountain as well as just footsteps up the road to hikes and walks. You can leave the house and take a stunning 7 mi run, or traipse through the woods or just sit out in back and play volleyball and lounge around watching the sun set over the green hills of Vermont. The clean fun is endless.
